You should read the "James Potter" series by G.Norman Lippert. It's a series of books that take place after the events of the Deathly Hallows and center around all the children of the people in the original books. The series was so well written it was even sanctioned and made canon by J.K. Rowling herself. In these novels, Merlin himself locked himself away in a prison outside time itself, but James Potter (Harry's oldest) accidentally let him out while on an "adventure". I think the books start with James in his 3rd or 4th year at Hogwarts

If Circe, a real life goddess from Greek mythology was a witch in the wizarding world, does that mean other gods from both Greek and other mythologies could’ve been wizards and witches that muggles just began worshipping as godlike figures due to their lack of understanding of magic? For example look at all the feats that Jesus performs in Judaeo-Christian mythology that are considered miracles. In the wizarding world, most of that is relatively simple magic all things considered.
Circe was a demigoddess, but even back in the Ancient times she was mostly known as a powerful sorceress (granted, her powers likely had to do with her divine heritage and her mother being a nymph). In that line of logic, yes, I would agree that Jesus would count as a wizard.
Yes Harry Potter lore has plenty of characters that are based on mythological characters (Odysseus, Morpsus, Calachas, Merlin, Morgana Le Fey, Cyclops, Goliath etc) Rowling hasn’t outright said it due to likely controversy, but the fact such mythology is canon to the series plus there’s literally Charms like “Water to Wine” indicates that’s the vision she had. 👍
