    Enjoyed the video.. We have them darn gofer mounds here too BUT so far them little F****** have only got into one of our alfalfa fields and it was terrible to bale... or well terrible to do anything on but for the most part the gofers dont bother the farm equipment and after a couple years it was smooth . Its weird how they bother one field but dont bother the ones right next to it..

      We are sandy so we have bad moles and gophers , but the gophers you can hunt , 2miles away and my neighbours don't have moles their land is better and just a little heavier. We have broke axles off more than one baler. Before the discbine you could cut 100' at a time and then have to unplug the reel and clean and replace guards off the knife. Some people float their fields in the spring and after every cut. We were so dry this spring I lost out on tonnage I think this will go 3ton/acre where I was hoping for 3.5ton , but now I hope just to get it baled before the wind blows it into big piles been there done that.

      yea i fee your pain... when i used a small framed tractor to hay it rode so rough... now with the bigger heavier and longer wheelbase the ride is much better....And having the Very large tires on the balers helps keep the axles on them

      @AndersonCattleCo  7 років тому +1

      The old balers had small tires My friend bought a new NH baler last year and the tires are 4' tall. I have the floatation tires on mine but nothing close to that , just the biggest in 2009.

    I just picked up an 8312, gals to hear you think they are a good machine. I demoed a Kubota 14' last summer and it was good in the mole hills.

    • @AndersonCattleCo
      @AndersonCattleCo  7 років тому +1

      8312 is a hell of a good machine ours is just wore out I used a 13' Kubota for 3rd cut last summer with the flail conditioner I loved the cut it did but on alfalfa it lost lots of leaves so they were going to bring me in one with rubber rolls but they wanted me to basically agree to buy it and I almost did but it was good I didn't because calves weren't worth enough to make the payments.

    Can you explain the importance of flowering in alfalfa please? I'm guessing that if it flowers it thinks its job is done (reseeding itself) for this season and it largely gives up growing and you will not get your three cuts that your looking for?

    • @AndersonCattleCo
      @AndersonCattleCo  7 років тому

      The alfalfa flowering shows the stage it is in which gives you an idea on how much energy and protein.If you want high protein you cut before it flowers if you want to get the most protein with the most energy with good yield you cut at 10% bloom. If you wait till full bloom you get the most yield but lower quality feed. The older it gets the thicker and less digestible the stems are. This alfalfa is no more than 5% bloom.

      @AndersonCattleCo  7 років тому

      Yes just the front of the pto shaft was $2500 I should've bought the other end of it to there is lots of ware on the splines. the field is 110acres and a new machine just like it is $60,000

      Very cool. We got .75 inches of rain just after we baled so the next crop is coming up good. Not so much wind here. Just hot and dry and low humidity.

      Farms here are small. I live on a small dairy farm. Weather has been good for the last couple of weeks. The first grain will be harvested probably in the beginning of next month.

    That's the biggest hay field I've ever seen lol! Sure looks like a nice thick stand. I know what u mean about needing wind to dry hay. Put a field along a tree line once.........never again!!! What mower did u have before this one

    • @jakeziegler599
      @jakeziegler599 7 років тому

      Wyatt I got the same knife as u

      Thanks for watching Jake I used to truck fuel to support the ranch and I filled a guys fuel truck, out at his hay field and it was before he put up pivots so his swaths were 6miles long and it was 3840acres but now he has pivots on it and rotates hay between other crops, I'd fall asleep baling at night never turning around lol. When I was a kid I learned how to cut hay with a gehl 1090 and if you cut 10acres a day that was good but it couldn't handle the mole hills, I had a NH 495 for a couple years before the discbine, it was way better and you could cut hay all day and not break guards but it had pto issues and you had square shaft on hand to weld new yokes on because it would always break Saturday afternoon. My great Uncle was the Oliver, White and Gehl dealer until the mid 80's so that's why we had a gehl.

      AndersonCattleCo. Oh ok cool I've heard those molls are a big problem. I noticed there's a gehl 1090 on Craigslist by me. That's a huge field!

    What make those PTO shafts so darn expensive? Isn't it just a couple of U-joints and a straight shaft to make them???

    • @AndersonCattleCo
      @AndersonCattleCo  7 років тому

      It isn't a regular U joint it has a ball in the center and You can't rebuild them it sucks but someone said you can find them cheaper but where I live that was cheapest one between the dealers thanks for watching

  • @myronparks3495
    @myronparks3495 7 років тому +2

    I have brome hay that I raise. I cut it at early head so I can get the highest protein level. After full head the protein level drops significantly.

    • @AndersonCattleCo
      @AndersonCattleCo  7 років тому

      Myron Parks Yup makes sense. Brome grass should get you some big yields My neighbour planted that new hybrid 10 years ago and he yielded 5 ton on his first cut his first year
