Living below your means to save money requires discipline and making conscious choices about your spending habits as well as making sacrifices.
It may take time to adjust, but the long-term benefits of financial security and reduced stress are well worth it and it's important to remember with saving money or getting out of debt that it's not forever - don't let it feel like a punishment, try and treat it like an opportunity to better your financial well-being and get better with money.

For those who think they can not afford to save even 5%, I suggest you consider 1%, it should not hurt and then in 3-6 month up the amount to 2%, once you have adjusted to that then in 3-6 month go to 3% and keep going until you get to 10-20%. As you find new ways to save, spend less, this will insure your savings increase to represent that amount. Mark each 3-6 month increment on a calendar so you do not forget to make the change upward. Work for me, hope it works for you.
Once you get into debt, it can take years and even decades to get out of it. Don't use credit cards unless you have to for an emergency. Have an emergency fund always. It's better to do without some luxuries than to be in debt. All it takes is an illness, accident, job loss, or recession to get into debt. Debt destroys your life.
Agree. Sinking Funds are great too❤️
Budgeting is really essential.doesnt matter rich or poor
Absolutely!!
exactly! There's a lot of wealthy people out there living paycheck to paycheck
@@watchmethriving then they cannot be wealthy if living paycheck to paycheck.

Thank you 😅
My husband has always been good with making a budget. I stick to what he says. We do very well. It is about cutting back where you feel like can.
Great team spirit ❤
❤
I done the biggest step of a mindset for living below my means. Am on a tight budget and recently had to stop doing overtime due to sick parents. I've find it hard to keep going in the present but do know will make my life so much better when it turns to saving instead of paying of debt. X
This is so important no matter what income level you’re at- one of the biggest things I want to teach my kids! Debt is awful (as I know from experience unfortunately)!
Love this Lara x
I have stopped cooking pasta in a pan. I heat the same amount of water in a frying pan. More surface exposed to heat and quicker heating time. Always always use a lid. Put the salt in after the water starts simmering. No need for a rolling boil. The salt delays the water reaching boiling point. Tons of tiny things that all add up.
Great tip! Thanks so much for sharing that!! x
What?!? I was told adding salt to your water will help it reach boiling point faster😮
I googled it: In terms of cooking, most individuals normally add about a teaspoon (3g) of salt per liter of water. Adding this small amount of salt will “technically” make the water boil faster, however, it would only result in a difference no more than a few seconds.
Bear in mind that if you are using a bigger ring for your fying pan then you're drawing more current while it's on than a saucepan would on a smaller ring.
My top tip is to turn the ring right the way off once the pasta is boiling. If the lid is on the water will stay hot enough to cook the pasta through.
Thanks so much for these amazing tips!!! ❤❤❤
I LOVE budgeting

Glad you think so!
I love the lava lamp - I used to have one like that.
I think it’s a Himalayan salt lamp or something like that.
After I saw I was spending some weeks more than 3 thousand euros, I cut down and put a budget of 100 euros a week. It is working. 😀
❤❤love this channel. So helpful for me. I have to be more frugal , because the money we earn is out before the month is gone😅.
It is so nice to see a nice and lovley person like you😊 because in my mind frugal people are always grey and not lovley and they are not smileying . I never ever wanted to be like them catching after evrey penny and never have fun or nice clothing and nice things. That's the pictur in my head , and i think that's the key, to have enoug money,i have to turn the picture ❤❤ i hope you undorstand what i mean😅 . Thank you to helping me create a new picture . 😊sorry of my english , if it's not correct , i'am from austria , vorarlberg ,bregenzerwald.❤❤
I have just gone gluten free. Cost of even basic gluten free items like bread is enough to make one weep.
Good replacement is White Rice! warm milk cooked with rice and brown sugar as a cereal alternative if u crave cereal for breakfast or dinner.
@befree9579 not really a cereal fan, but something to keep in mind
Veggies are super cheap
Make your own buns with red lentils and physillium husks. Lots of recipes online!
You've just got to change your mindset. I treat gf breads as a treat and don't have them often. And keep away from processed gf as much as possible.
A lunch for me as an example would be a couple of ryvita crackers with cheese and honey, keffir yogurt topped with seeds, nuts and a fruit and a cup of coffee.
How do I learn how to budget? I’ve always been an impulsive spender and haven’t saved any money in 43 years of my life. I need help.
I life above😊
I always have
I'm binge watching all your latest videos 😂 would you do a video soon about Autumn / Winter budgeting? I.e The C word! To budget and save for days out (Santa), food and gifts I have to start thinking about it now. Especially with CoL as everything is SO expensive!! I usually make budget or free Autumn / Winter family bucket lists and post them online for people who need it x
If you'd like my frugal bucket lists to use I'll happily send them to you x
Ur amazing
Hello Lara, hope your well, I'm so in need of this video right now. the last few months I have spent too much money I can't account for xx
Same!
This has really got me thinking! Eeek! 😳😳😳
Lots of unnecessary criticism of this lady. Take what's relevant to u and ignore the rest. No need to put her down. Be kind to people or be quiet 💜
Thank you 💛 I'm a real human behind the screen, be kind, always. x
Another fab video! These sort are you best Lara! How about an episode about how you budget for school holidays and family holidays? Thanks Lara for your insight!
Thank you so much ☺️ yes, that’s a great idea, they can be so expensive to get through the holidays x
Woukd be great if you could do those 6 recipies on u tube
I am a new subscriber 😊
Thanks for subbing! X
Thanks for the video Lara, I really enjoy your content and you as a person. Would you consider making a video on the pros and cons to paying off a mortgage early? Our interest rate has just gone from 1.5% to 5.74% and I'm thinking of overpaying. Xx
That’s so kind, thank you!! ❤️ ooh, what a great video idea! I don’t know if I’m entirely informed on that but I could definitely make it a conversation opener type of video sharing my own opinions and thoughts on it!! Ouch, I hope you can manage the repayments ok. That’s a crazy jump! 😩 xx
Just as an update this video is now on my channel :) ua-cam.com/video/v4vk31Op3J8/v-deo.html x
Thank you so much for making the video! (I watched it and think I left a comment🤔). It was really helpful and informative. We (my husband and I) have started making over payments as the interest we can make in savings is lower than our mortgage rate. Will keep an eye on interest rates though and adjust accordingly! Xx
I live above, life is short
What are your thoughts on buy now pay later? I try to only have one thing at a time that I’m paying off so it’s not a bunch of payments coming out.
I'm curious about Plum but it's not available in Canada. Do you know of any apps similar available outside of the uk?
I only have one credit card, and I only use it if I already have the money to pay it back.
I enjoyed this. My concern though Lara is I still don't get this postage business. How does the company know where and who to send it to? I think i will need to get a friend to actually physically show me. Feel really dumb. I have been buying and selling on ebay for years.
you look a lot like Dr. Arizona from Grey's Anatomy ❤
THIS! I was trying to think why she looks familiar! 😂
I was thinking the same thing 😂
I think I waste a lot of money by food delivery. Which I should cut down.
cost of living is through the roof in Australia
No fast food!
Spending 35° of Income becomes a must otherwise one would have to spend much more that too with problems
I am very new to budgeting but really need to learn how to.
Can you send me any links that will help me make a start please? Many thanks x
Calculate your costs. Electricity, water, rent, transport, clothes, hair etc. Add it all up and divide it by how often u get paid. Or u can look it up on UA-cam.
I calculate my yearly expected expenses and divide by 26 as I get paid every 2nd week.
Saving typically results in you earning a lower return but with virtually no risk. In contrast, investing allows you the opportunity to earn a higher return, but you take on the risk of loss in order to do so.
I’m trying to get onto the investing ladder at 40. I wish at 55 I will be testifying to huge success!
I've come to realize that the key to amassing wealth lies in making sound investments. I purchased my first home at the age of 21 for $87,000 and sold it for $197,000. My second home, acquired for $170,000, was later sold for $320,000, and my third property, purchased at $300,000, fetched $589,000, with buyers covering all closing costs and expenses. Not reaching a million before retirement feels like an unfulfilled goal..
Whichever firm you select, make sure you get your insurance from a reputable financial adviser, such as *Jenny Pamogas Canaya,* who has dedicated her career to financial planning. Because they will assist you in escalating, navigating better, and completing the task in a safer manner..|
Correct spambot, but that isn't what this video is about
What is cash back?
I am soon to be a first time mother and I find it really sad that I’ve seen baby formulas in shops being security tagged and hearing that mothers out there can’t afford to buy formula and they try to steal it. Among this baby products are very expensive is there any advice you can give or tips on buying discounted baby products? I’ve downloaded some apps which are great, but I was wondering if you might consider making a video on how to save on baby products?
Such a coincidence you mention this because I saw this on the news and it was deeply upsetting. I feel so sad for any mother's/parents who need to do this and that the prices for it are not subsidised or discounted. I wish there was something I could do to help. I can look into this though and see if I can come up with anything to help; good idea! xx
There's a healthy start scheme for those parents that are eligible
If you can Breast Feed ( it's free) if you can't BF with the baby attached, then use a breast pump and feed the baby that way.. Also as suggested above, there are plenty of schemes and help for new mums. Make sure have everything filled in before the baby comes. Ps. The baby doesn't need fancy and brand new clothes for the first 3 months. Hand me downs ( good condition) is fine. The baby will just want to be warmed and loved and feed and with mum. Second hand or hand me downs ( in good condition is fine).
Breast feed, I did. It is free and is best for your baby.
@@petermorhead4160
Yes it is, But sometimes either baby doesn't latch (mine) and the only way to get the good stuff in them is bottle, plus at least dad can help with the feeding. It's the milk part that's important.
What holiday you going on?
but why encourage using cc's??
The app you suggest it doesn’t work in the US do you know if one that works good for the US?
Dee Burke. She's in America. I'm in Europe but watch her - brilliant channel. Regards. Rose 🌻
Thanks for the video Lara 💕 I have credit card debt and an overdraft, which would you suggest paying off first? With thanks 🙏 xx
Google the avalanche method and the snowball method and use whichever suits your personality best x
Whichever has the highest interest rate
She’s no financial advisor.
She’s hot 🥵
❤
I've got such a bad habit to spend on vapes, deliveroo and coffee's. I buy it and then regret it after.
Same😮💨 tried to quit but the geek bars have me in a choke hold
Get an allotment grow own veg . Open fire place up if possible lots of free wood about . Buy yellow sticker food . Make a batch of food in slow cooker put into boxes put in freezer . Buy a fire stick for movies . Bike to work . Make your own wine beer . Buy items from car boots clothes from charity shops … 😂
If one Saves more than 65° of the Income then money Would Grow at a more slower pace
Just constructive criticism...intro is a little long...almost 3 min. Before getting into tips.
Thanks for the feedback and the kind way of doing it ❤️ I do love to chat and give the background for anyone new but I will try and keep it shorter 🫣
She uses Chapters, you can skip the intro easily.
Good thing one can fast forward
wish I found this channel earlier... I've done so many mistakes in trading...
Laura where in the world are you? ❤
She's beautiful!
I've been doing this and more for years! I don't even own a t.v. I HAVE to cook everything myself, due to severe food allergies. My phone bill is as cheap as they come. I haven't bought a new stitch of clothing in more than 5 years. I have absolutely no subscriptions, no gym membership, etc. I don't drink alcohol, because my father is an alcoholic and my mother is allergic. My rent is the lowest I could find in the area. I haven't bought anything online since my wedding 15 years ago, which we did NOT go into debt for. I, carefully, use the cash back apps for groceries and gas. And I ran my last car into the ground, currently using every last bit of my current one up as well!
So, no actual tips for the actual poor here either! I need something more for the poor, not affluent spoiled brats wasting money and whining about "the shoe I wanted was on sale for $100.00, but wasn't in my size! Why me!?!"
Exactly.
I totally agree with your post
Can you lower your heat/ cooling or electricity. Save every receipt for a month. See what you spent money on. I'm living on less than 800 a month.
@pattylilly873 Wow. That's incredible u can live on that. Well done 🎉 Your frugality is extraordinary 💜
If you have the money to pay it off then you don't need a credit card
Great way of building a credit score though if you pay it back in full each month...

This video is so out of touch. We are living in a time where these budgeting and saving tips no longer apply. The goal is to be able to literally stay alive. Maintain some kind of shelter, heat that shelter, have enough to eat. Try to stay healthy enough to avoid the hospital. But how do you do that when you're killing yourself trying to do all the other stuff while making some rich guy even richer?
Thanks for watching and for your comment. It’s important to remember that every single person watching is in a different situation to the next person. It’s not a one shoe fits all approach and therefore the tips which might not suit someone, will suit someone else. There are hundreds of videos here to try and help people with all different budgets and positions, sorry if you didn’t find this helpful and wishing you a warm and happy Christmas xx
Hahaha ... jumping on a bike.. free enterteinment... after 1250 km it is still 60€/h ... but that being said, the cost should come down to 5.6€/h or 0.18€/km in the next 5 years
I sell on ebay full time and earn 100k a year just selling stuff from charity shops and car boots ,life don't have to be hard just Come away from the system, if your earning less than 35k a year your not even in the 1%
Wow that’s amazing 🤩
Loooo a. Yyyyfy vice vj
Spend, spend, spend.the more I spend the more I make. When my dollars are worth more than the face value. I buy gas in bulk, which cost less.
From my perspective - if one is in DEBT, THERE IS NO eating out, drinks after work, NO NOTHING. Owing money CAUSES DEPRESSION!!
Why are you racing along?
It's impossible to keep upa!!
BLAH BLAH BLAH...
I'M OUTTA HERE!!
Why are you in debt.
I can show you, how to make that dollar become 5 , without stressing.
