So... I uploaded this video yesterday, but I had to take it down immediately. For reasons that took quite a few hours to figure out, Blender rendered the segment from 19:02 to 20:39 as all black. Everything looked fine in the editor, but every render was black.
It turns out I had accidentally deleted the video file for that segment. Everything looked fine in the editor because I had created a proxy video. It sure would have saved me a lot of time if Blender had popped up a dialog saying, "Source video file MVI_7192.m4v is missing." :(
I submitted a Blender issue (developer.blender.org/T98477) so hopefully some future users won't have this difficult to diagnose problem.

This was extremely interesting. I cannot wait for more of this machine.

Remember this kind of kit from childhood along with the robot they sold. Of course all out of range for a kid budget. Happy to see this video.

I would *love* to find one of those robots! They use that super rare (and now very expensive) Votrax SC-01 speech chip.

This thingy is still a classic as thingies go. Nice find!

I was pretty stoked to find it! I'm not on the lookout for other kit computers at estate sales and junk shops.

That Heathkit ET-3400 is pretty cool! I'm sure you can get the B key sorted. Maybe it needs some new conductive paint under the key plunger?

As I used it a bit more to enter that little program, it started to work better. I think I just didn't give the Deoxit enough time to work it's magic.

Someone was telling me about battery backed up SRAM. You can write to it with an EPROM programmer, very quickly, and you don't have to wait for the erase cycle. Sounds like it might do exactly what you need for rapid code development for this board.

Hm... I saw one project where a person connected a Dallas clock chip to access the NVRAM for a little bit of storage. Something like that seems like a good project to start with.

I had one of these. Mine had 256 bytes of memory. I used do say "it's 1/4 K". Sounded bigger.

15:20 Re you dying on camera not making for great UA-cam viewing - I mean, everyone loves to see catastrophes, explosions, etc. But the downside is, you can only use that viewership bump ONCE... 😄
