I guess the 20 degree beam is for when you’ve run out of options, you’re pressed for time, and there’s a body of water between the light and the subject that prevents you from moving the light closer to the subject. But the color change in drop off is disappointing as the “hard” light feature is what the light is supposed to be good at. Perhaps the hard light feature okay if used with a silk for diffusion and you want as much light as possible to be hitting the silk rather than being wasted on spill. Excellent review Andrew. 👍
its no hard to make a judgment on such a big purchase from just seeing a video from a garage and not even a working set. To anyone watching this, get past the junk at the start where he is having a bad day and when he gets to the meat, it looks like a great light. I saw Litepanels is having a demo night in Sydney next week so ill be going to that to see it for myself to see if its any good rather then making a call from one video.... ill try to find the event page and link it

Truly appreciate the time you take to make these, even though they can't all be homeruns or a (six in Aus) and also risking being taken off of the christmas card list, This is the content I value as a working Gaffer. This seems like a gen 1 fixture, even though it technically isn't. In-built diagnostics is a godsend in a rental environment though, and still criminally too uncommon. It looks like it has great applications in terms of firepower with the diffusers on, especially with the light diffuser, but given the namesake it's a crying shame that the issues with the native beam angle are so fundamentally glaring. The effects being crap isn't unexpected as Litepanels have always been a bit lacklustre in that regard.
Thanks again Andrew, I was looking at these to replace my ageing 2x1 Gemini soft lights, but with the 20 degree beam basically unusable. I might hold off, and see what Aputure or arri come out with next as I consider the vortex too heavy , or get another set of p600c.
hey mate, good news. from what i can see, it comes with 2 diffusers making it 60 deg and 100 deg. I think the 20 deg is mainly for shooting through scrims and wanting a punch.

What is the beam angle with the light diffusion on it? I didn't expect such terrible performance with no diffusers since Litepanels have been using lensed LEDS since the Astras. You'd think they'd have that figured out.

Thank you very much for explaining the 20% beam angle issue… was considering this light to use through a silk but the colour issue kills it for me

Agreed. There's not even a single outstanding point compared to the same price nova600.China's development is scary.

The Gemini 2x1 Soft can flip the menu as well. I suppose that has been fixed in a firmware update. ( 8:45 )

Gemini is way lighter and the Nova 600 is way brighter. That's essentially the two major differences.
