Dabo has shown a lot of integrity since that day. He has done everything he said he would do and it's pretty amazing to be a part of it even just as a student and a fan. Go Tigers!
10 years later...2 national championships, 5 consecutive ACC championships, 4 consecutive playoff appearances, the first team in poll era to go 15-0 with a freshman QB.
I remember when I first heard Dabo speak after his promotion. And I knew he was already part of the Clemson family. And that it was a big deal. Clemson doesn't thrive when it hires coaches outside the family, such as Ken Hatfield and Tommy Bowden, not to detract from their coaching abilities.
@@esnebta It was a nickname for him because when he was little, somebody called him Dat Boy. So it stuck and they called him Dabo. Southern kinda thing ya'll know?
I'm proud to be a HUGE Clemson Tigers fan!! Coach Dabo Swinney is an inspiration to my life. He's an awesome Clemson Tigers football coach and I put God first in everything that I do. Go Tiger's!! 🐅🏈💪😍🏈💪 #ALLIN
Think about it. Dabo Swinney faced an uphill battle from the day he was named interim coach. He had to rally a team who just lost their head coach. His focus was on the team and not himself. Once he was named permanent HC he had to start rebuilding that program and he had to do so without much of a reputation and he had to go up against Steve Spurrier in state who had a huge lead on him in terms of where the program was at S.C and was a legend. Then came 6-7 and everything and everyone seemed to be against him. He knew he was going to be fired but Terry Don Phillips stayed with him. Through it all he had a plan and rolled up his sleeves and went to work. Where some coaching hires didn’t work, he adapted and made hires that did. In my mind the two best hires were Brent Venables and Brandon Streeter (look at what Streeter did with Cole Stoudt in the bowl that year vs Oklahoma). His two biggest recruits early on were convincing CJ Spiller to stay and then recruiting Tajh Boyd. Then he worked at getting funds to build new facilities. He endured the Orange Bowl debacle and 0-5 verses SC and yet stayed the course and started to enjoy key bowl wins vs LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma and then goes to the Natty twice and winning it in 2016. This shows what can happen when you make the most of every opportunity, have a plan, have patience and support and work hard. Dabo is the real deal and I’m certainly enjoying every moment of what we are enjoying. Go Tigers!
I still remember that press conference, and how po'd I was that this nobody was being made even the interim head coach. I was really mad when they made it permanent...I thought what are these idiots thinking, hiring this guy nobody has ever heard of, while the Gamecocks were getting a successful coach like Steve Spurrier. Turns out, I was the idiot...love Dabo!!!!!
Alot of people were shocked. Never heard of the guy. After beating the chickens, I thought he deserved a chance as HC. But, after losing two straight to the chickens, I was ready to fire him. After five straight loses to our rival, I was really angry. Glad we had patience. He's the best we've ever had.
This is about my tenth time to watch this video and I probably will watch it another ten times, but this is my first time to comment on it, what a great man from the get go I just love his honesty, enough said let's get back to the interview...Go Tigers
I watched this interview and had no idea who he was. I had never heard anything about Dabo. I liked what he said and was sold on him from the start-He did try my patience by losing 5 in a row to usuc, but besides that what he has done at Clemson is amazing. Terry Don should have had his head examined for hiring Dabo-but he was the only one who knew what he was doing. Dabo was thrown to the fire as a mid season hire from a coaching change. Then he had to deal with the idiots in the media who insulted Clemson with that damn "c" word. And he's been to the mountain top twice now. He will never be able to change the face of college football at Alabama the way he will change the face of college football at Clemson.

Incredible all that he has done.

Best guy ever! Such a motivational person and coach. What a blessing it is to have Dabo. Go Tigers!
Dabo is the man!

Dabo has not changed a bit same mindset. It's still working.

We all thought we got some weird named wide receiver coach to finish the season. Never knew we had the next legend.
"What kind of a name is Dabo anyway?"
That is the truth!

You and me both. I was pissed off because this dude had literally zero experience. I couldnt be happier that i was wrong.
