  • How to sew lace overlay on sides of a lace wedding gown. Whether you just took up the hips or let them out, you will likely have to resew the lace appliques that overlay the sides of the skirt of the gown.
    Watch this video to see hints of how to hold the gown and lace in place while you sew. How to back the lace so that sewing is faster and more accurate. I will show you how to lock your thread and avoid getting your thread in a tangle.

    As usual… a great video! And so true! I have a dark cutting mat that I use. Seeing more that a couple stitches are helpful. Not everyone has the “eye” or can envision especially when they are new at this. I’ve taught sewing over the yrs & I find that comprehension for newbee’s is seeing not just hearing. In your videos you are constantly talking/ explaining as you work & why they are so successful.

    So super helpful! Never thought of chapstick. I use the disc and run an iron over the thread to make it glide easier. Love your idea better and it will save time too!

    Your Chanel is so informative, interesting and very helpful! I've promised myself, that in the New Year, I will go through your videos, you are such an easy person to listen to, explaining everything so thoroughly! Thank you for your time and the great videos! I've subscribed 😃

      Aww thank you. I try. I know I upset some people, but I really try. Also, you will notice, if you go through in order, the audio gets better as I was able to invest in equipment. Some people are really hateful about my early audio & the music I had to use to cover the hiss, but I had to work with what I had. ❤

      @@BridalSewing . You are right, there's a lot of horrible people that just love to be nasty, When ever anyone starts something new, there are always mistakes made, but it doesn't mean that, that person wont improve, every day is a learning curve, we all have to start somewhere, they're just trolls who love to be mean! I love your chanel, and look forward to watching all your videos, present and past! Enjoy your day😉

    Great job!! I applaud your use of the cardstock. I'm so entrenched in hand sewing that I don't think I could do it without having my other hand underneath the lace. I don't think I've ever seen a gown where the apps are hand sewn. You must work on couture gowns. Most of the gowns I work on are sewn with invisible threads. You know where someone says "oh no a loose thread " and pulls it and it peels off a hundred beads down the dress hahaha!! I try to catch them before they pull but I've missed it a couple times. 🙄

    Love it! Your trick with the card stock and chapstick is brilliant!! Where did you learn everything by the way? You are so talented!

    • @BridalSewing

      I don't recall learning the card stock trick from anyone. I really just approach sewing with an open mind and with problem solving skills. If I'm straining to see because the contrast isn't sufficient, then I'll do something to add contrast. If I keep picking up the fabrics under the layer that I'm working on, then I'll do something *once* that will keep it from happening over and over. "Nip it in the Bud!" As Deputy Fife would say! Lol
      Basically, that's my story of sewing. Just really think things through, put things back the way they were, those rules will guide your sewing.

      Bridal Sewing Techniques you’re so right because Alterations in general are essentially problem solving.

    When sewing appliqué, do you only sew around the edge?

    • @BridalSewing
      @BridalSewing  5 років тому

      Mostly. But sometimes you need to loop in a little to make it more stable.

    Is the top layer of lace made up of lace appliques sewn onto tulle?
    And how do you sew the areas of tulle at the seam that are in between the lace appliques?
    And finally (I'm sorry I have so many questions) how would you sew the side seam if the lace appliques are sparse and the fabric is mostly tulle?
    Thank you!

    • @BridalSewing
      @BridalSewing  4 роки тому +1

      Yes.
      You sew the side seam on a straight stitch just as if it were satin.
      Same.

    What were the steps before being able to stitch it down?
    I have a dress with a "loose" mesh layer past the hips that has lace applique on it as well, tho there r some big spaces between lace that is just mesh. Would u lift the lace off the seam and then take the mesh in?

    • @BridalSewing
      @BridalSewing  5 років тому

      Yes, peel lace back. Alter like the lace doesn't exist. Get the dress to fit perfectly. Then, pin lace down, & sew it.

      I have this in several of my vids. I wish I could tell you exactly which ones, but I think it's some of my lace hem vids. I also have one with a lace bodice that shows this. Basically use nippers or a razor
