this is a story from the First World War (the Serbian flag isn't the Russian flag upside down anymore, but it was during WW1) a bunch of Muslim Russian conscripts wanting to defect to the Ottomans approached the position with their flag upside down to show their intent to defect, but the Turkish soldiers just thought they were Serbs and gunned them all down

Force Equalizer: Bosnian artillery helped balance the disparity between the Bosnian Army (ARBiH) and the heavily armed Bosnian Serb forces (VRS). Even though the ARBiH started out with limited resources, gaining artillery allowed them to better defend their territory and counterattack effectively.
Strategic Importance: In mountainous and urban areas like Sarajevo, well-placed artillery could disrupt enemy advances, provide cover for Bosnian troops, and inflict heavy losses on Serb positions. This allowed the Bosnian Army to hold key areas despite being outnumbered in some battles.
Psychological and Tactical Impact: The sound of Bosnian artillery fire had a significant psychological effect, serving both as a morale booster for Bosnian forces and a deterrent for the opposition.
