If your dyson DC04 is cutting in and out as you vacuum it is likely to be a fault in the cord as it enters the vacuum. This video will show you how to repair the cord and get your Dyson working again. In most cases you can simply shorten the cord as in this video. However if you would like to repelace it completely for peace of mind or because you would like a longer cord you could use a cord like this one part # 33200055

Super accurate and super helpful. I followed this to the letter (word) and have a fully working DC04 once again. Thank you.
Thanks. Without your video I would never have worked out how to remove the switch.
Best vacuum the DC-04 Dyson.
Kind Regards.

Thank you so much for posting this! My power cord had exposed wire that I've used electrical tape on and that wasn't holding anymore. I watched this several times, pausing as I fixed mine and the vacuum cord looks great and best of all, works. You saved me a lot of money should I have gone to a repair shop. All I spent was $3.23 for connectors. Thanks again!
Thank you! Was quoted a fortune to fix it and have a new cable fitted - fixed in 10 mins thanks to this
Another great DC04 resurrection video, hehehehe! I've done this a couple of times as despite the "strain relief boot" the cable still does have a nasty habit of suffering from fatigue fracture in that spot. My cable is now a fair bit shorter but fixed for nothing!
Cracking video followed the instructions and replaced the cable no ptoblem. Took about 15 minutes to do. Thanks very much for sharing saved a trip to thr repair shop
Just fixed our dc04 using your method and it works. I salute your work sir
Brilliant thanks I managed to fix it, my wife was threatening to buy a new one so this has saved me a lots of money
Thank you Alec. With your instructions, I was able to easily fix this problem in 10 minutes.
Thanks Alec - successfully followed and money saved. The reconnection/reassembly was a little fiddly and we took a photo of it all before to make sure we got the wires in the right positions so that the on/off switch relocated snuggly.
Hi Alec, Brilliant video, very easy to follow and I have saved myself a load of money by fixing my DC04 myself. Thanks for your help - much appreciated.
Exactly the fault on my 04. Searched and your fix came up straight away. Amazing it came from the other side of the world - thanks from "up here" in the cold UK on Christmas eve to you lot "down there" - on a nice hot beach with a cool beer.
Thanks lads great video which was straight to the point and easy to follow.
Regards Peter
Thanks a lot for this video buddy, was able to get my old Dyson back on the go! Haven't got the kind of money they want for a new one nowadays! Many thanks again 👊🏻
Thanks so much for this. I've just done this repair on my Dyson with your help - it would have taken me a long time to work out how the get the switch assembly out!
Thanks, my Dyson now works perfectly again.
Hello Alex.hank you for an easy to follow video.
Using it I've just fixed my Dyson and can now get on with housework.
Thanks again.
Many thanks - even years after you made it !
Very helpful instructions which enabled me to get our DC04 operational again. However, a couple of suggestions:
1. The yellow power button on ours simply wouldn't budge, despite me having the prescribed removal tool for the job! I, therefore, bought a replacement (easily sourced and cheap) and simply drilled the old button out. Shouldn't have been necessary and it takes a bit of care but it then came out easily.
2. Before replacing the yellow button, test the vacuum first. If you put the yellow button back before testing, you've then got the removal hassle all over again if it's still not working. One of the spade connectors that I hadn't been working on had pulled loose during the rewiring process and, hence the machine didn't at first work. Checking to find where the fault might be was an easy task before everything was reassembled.
Nice one mate, fixed my DC04 in about half hour, reckon you just saved me a few quid, nice one ta!!!
Very useful video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge from the UK
Hi Alec,
I knew there must be a way! I called the Dyson helpline but they wouldn't help due to it involving the electrics! After watching your video I had it mended in 10 minutes. Many thanks.
Great video. Tried to do this once before but couldn't figure out how to remove the switch button. This video was easy to follow.. I have had this fault 4 times now (3 x professionally repaired) so it's great to be able to do it myself.
You are a life saver mate! Thanks for this 🙂
Finally I can have a longer cord. No more extension cord connection catching on corners. 15 meters, you beaut. I just ignored/cut the earth cable as it was not needed.
Thanks for this very clear advice. It worked a treat. Back to clean carpets here in Leeds, West Yorkshire.
perfect instruction - broken wire...now fixed - thank you very much!!!
Cheers! Managed to do this really fast thanks to you putting this video up!
Thanks for this really useful post! Job done! An old DC04 back working in Horsham, West Sussex.
Thanks from me, too. Had the same split cable outer, and fixed in ten minutes with your guidance. Great video.

Cheers for video, sortet in 15 mins ,plastic green switch broke but so what I'll get another. Again 🇬🇧👍 Jim
Great video. Fixed in 10 mins
Great Alec, thanks for the video. No expensive trip to the shops now!
Great video!
They charge £25 in the UK for this.
Getting the yellow switch off can be a pain, but they only cost a few quid if the worst comes to the worst.
Brilliant video m8 helped me a lot.. cheers.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Hi Alec, great video and I'm going to have a go of this myself. Do those shielded spade connectors need to be a particular size? I'm going to need to buy myself a pack, and I've noticed they come in different sizes. Cheers Paul (Liverpool, UK)
Thanks for this - saved my mother a load of cash and me going insane trying to figure out how you get the switch off!
@HelpzzHD I use a 2-3mm size connector. As long as the male and female part are a matched pair you will be fine.
I'm looking for 2 of the very small clear plastic connector that is inside the power box at (junction?)hard to find, I don't know what they are called
Hi Alec, can you provide the same advice (and video) for a DC03? Desperate for your help Thanks Jenny
Would it be the same thing for a dc14 ? Thanks for sharing as at the moment everyones trying to economise;)
@HelpzzHD the red things are terminal connectors and spade connectors. Should be able to get them from any electronics store or big hardware place :)
thank you for this great video
what vacuum shop you work at
Thank You - clear and concise. :)
Thanks a lot Alec. 👍
Alec, thanks to you my wife thinks I'm a genius.
Great job.thanks.
All those replaceable parts. Gotta love dyson. I've had my DC03 for 17 years and hasn't let me down.
thank you, you have just saved me £25 pounds by not taking it to a repairers. :-}
