There is so much room for public transit to increase and explode in SW Ontario... being one of the densest areas in Canada, it makes sense to expand our existing schedules and keep pushing people into it because it literally benefits everyone to use public transit.. for those who insist on driving, it means fewer cars on the road and those who take public transit it means you can have a few drinks at your destination w/o worrying about having to drive back! It's kind of win-win.
That's true! I've been using public transportation (and the occassional uber) for these almost 5 years I've been in Canada and it's doable! But I totally agree that the systems could do better with their network, schedules, and also punctuality. That would keep me using public transport in the long run!
I have only used the GO Train a few times. It would be beneficial to people like me if you made some videos of Union GO Station in Toronto, the underground pathway from Union Subway Station to the GO Station, the GO Bus Terminal, and UP Express Station. I had a bit of trouble with the GO stations. This was an excellent and informative video.
Thanks, I have not seen your videos before. I was born and grew up in Canada, but I left 30 years ago. These days I live in France. This summer, I will be going to Canada for a visit, so learning about public transit in Ontario is helpful. A lot is different, and improved, since I last thought about this topic.
Starting Apr 8, there will be weekend service on the Kitchener Line every hour between Mount Pleasant and Union. Bus 30 will connect KW to Bramalea. Time is basically the same as non-rush hour trains. And 25 -> Square One -> Union is still there, but bus 21P from Square One to Union got changed to 21C to Port Credit + LW train, and 25L will replace 25 during most of the day. 25/25L no longer stops at downtown Kitchener. So if people living in the northern part of Kitchener want to go to Square One direct without making transfers in Peel Region, they'll have to go to one of the 2 universities in Waterloo to take 25/25C/25L.
I used the #30 service on Sunday of the Victoria Day weekend to/from Union Station. Total trip time about 2 hours each way including 10-15 minutes transfer time at Bramalea (and the washrooms at Bramalea are well-kept). Buses both ways were double deckers, no washrooms on board. The $10 day pass, which downloads to your phone (same for the $15 weekend pass BTW) saved me a KFC-sized bucket on the fare!
Really nice detailed video, thank you. For all my life I rarely use GO trains (everything by car). The video is really clear, i think it will help many people who have no clue in this or simply tourists. But I think the name of our train to Pearson is not "U-P Express" but literally UP (same as up/down).
On weekends there is the Go bus 25 from Square One in Mississauga. It makes many stops along the way and it’s pretty slow and prone to delays. It can also get very crowded.
Even though I don’t live in kitchener or missisauga I take this alot from Milton, not a very scenic ride either but I find it very useful especially since its all day two way
If you’re not from Canada, how does the GO train compare with the train from where you’re from? And if you’ve taken GO before, what do you think of it? Would love to hear your thoughts!
I used to use the GO Train when I had to travel from Kitchener to Toronto for work meetings during the week because driving there results in being stuck in traffic. I only ever took the Kitchener to Toronto train once during a snow storm. Otherwise I would drive to the Aldershot station near Hamilton to ride the Lakeshore West line into Union. There is plans to do all day trips from Kitchener to Toronto, but for now there are limited times or connections via bus. There is also plans for a larger station outside the City with lots of parking. The Kitchener station has very limited parking and is a not so great station.
You can also use your credit card to tap on the machine if you don't have a presto card/app. Same fare as presto, just make sure to tap off with the same credit card. Same with TTC
The reasons for short platforms and lack of current weekend service is due to upgrades being made at stations so the service can be extended into weekends and up to every 15 minutes
When I think of the 0:40 mark of the above video, I think of a mention of not-so-frequent service on the Kitchener GO train line but also of a claim made in November 2021, by the London, Ontario-born Amsterdam-based Not Just Bikes UA-cam man, of the European Netherlands’ having long had “viable alternatives to driving” (via his video “The best country in the world for drivers”). There’s no doubt Metrolinx has work to do to up the frequency of service on so many of its routes.
Your video is very useful, helping people who have rarely or never used a train to be more confident in traveling by train. If you could make more videos about traveling from Waterloo or Toronto airport to Kitchener, it would be great.
It sounds like a great adventure! I have only been to Go Train a couple of times, and quite often on Via from Windsor to Montreal many many years ago. Do like the double deck, like the ones in Chicago, quite relaxing. Wish they fix the weekend schedule to increase the ridership.
I saw the GO train when I was in Oakville! I live in London! We have been unsuccessful in getting a Go train. We could sure use it! We did have some temporary service but…
And what if we need to change another train and a bus. Do we still need to tap on and off each time until we reach our destination? Or we need to tap off only when we reach our final destination?
I take the Kitchener line between Kitchener and Guelph regularly, (my presto card is set default trip between Kitchener-Guelph, which means I don't need to tap off when travelling between those stations), occasionally to Toronto too, really enjoy it, and actually faster and way less stressful than driving on 401. Weekend service on Kitchener line has been a long waiting demand for lots of us here in Waterloo. Driving to Toronto for a blue-Jay game on a weekend was a disaster, it literally took 3 hours after half hour just for parking. also for the train, technically you are requested to tap at the transfer point/stations. For instance, if I want to go from kitchener to Barrie, I need to transfer at the union, I tap at kitchen to start the trip, tap off at the union, then board on Barrie line, and tap off at Barrie.
I recently booked a flight from Kitchener Airport instead of Toronto (my bad). If i do not have Presto Card, Can I tap to pay using my credit card or Apple Pay? Is it easy to get an Uber or Taxi from the station at Kitchener? Thank you so much for the video!
hey there..Hope you're doing great! mourya here from india. im moving to kitchener in december for culinary management at conestoga college. Pease try to make a video bout that ..thanks
I have never taken GO to Brantford before. But I believe there is a connection from Toronto - Brantford. You can check it out here: www.gotransit.com/en/trip-planning/plan-your-trip

I'll keep that in mind, I do have some existing footage of the station. Thanks for the video idea!

That's very interesting to know!
My family and I have taken the GO train from Burlington to Toronto a few times. It was great every time!
Yes, overall I’m pretty happy with it as well!
Your voice is so relaxing and the video quality is really good. Thank you!

Good to know, yeah, doesn't sound like a great way to travel, but at least there's an option when it's urgent!
Even though I don’t live in kitchener or missisauga I take this alot from Milton, not a very scenic ride either but I find it very useful especially since its all day two way
There's 25C that only stops at the 2 universities and Square One, only 1hr if no delay.
Thank you! Very informative video. It's very helpful for me to plan out my 10 days staying in Toronto.
Glad to hear that!

I took it for the first time yesterday and again today. I love it. It took me from GO Danforth to Union Station in no time 😄 Love it
Thanks for sharing your experience!😄
We always use it going to Burlington and Niagara. So far so good.

I always sit upstairs, it's great! Agree with the poor schedule, they should have more frequent trips!
They have LRT light rail connect between Kitchener and Waterloo.
Also T&T there as well
OMG you're always making the right videos. Love you ❤
I saw the GO train when I was in Oakville! I live in London! We have been unsuccessful in getting a Go train. We could sure use it! We did have some temporary service but…
In Guelph, I highly recommend Planet Bean got incredibly good coffee!
Thanks for the suggestion!
For weekends, Go bus 25 from Mississauga Square One and 30 from Bramlea Go, to Kitchener.
Thanks for sharing that!
I’m from Kitchener and I’d love to go on an adventure with you guys!
Nice to have someone from Kitchener watching!
Hello, nice video! Did you say how long the ride was? One-way? I may have missed that part.
1.5 hours if I'm not mistaken!
@@LivinginCanada ok not bad..that’s what the GO train site says
thx for the tipp with presto card.
You're welcome!
And what if we need to change another train and a bus. Do we still need to tap on and off each time until we reach our destination? Or we need to tap off only when we reach our final destination?
How many locomotives do you know?
Thanks for sharing.
I think your title is missing "TORONTO".
You're right, perhaps I should put that back in😂, thanks!

Do you also tap on when you board the barrie line? I've never made any transits between two GO trains. Thanks!
I believe it supposed to always tap on before boarding train /bus, and tap off when take off unless it is default trip stations
@@LivinginCanadano you just have to tap off at detination not at transfer
Omg yes sucks to commute. My family is in Toronto and I'm in kitchner 😢😢
I wish they had more frequent service.

Hi May I ask if they allow me to bring pieces of baggage (02 luggage size L) on the train to Kitchener?
I've never done it, but I'm pretty sure you can.
hey there..Hope you're doing great!

im moving to kitchener in december for culinary management at conestoga college.

Wishing you all the best for your upcoming studies!
@@LivinginCanada thank you so much.. looking forward ☺️
I’m trying to buy tickets online for April 8 and it’s quite confusing. It says tickets will be valid until March 31. What does it mean? 🧐
As far as I know that would me you can start using the ticket latest by March 31.
Here's a quick 7:30 skip.
Do we have any rout between kitchener and guelph?
nice video ,shoutout from fellow content creator from toronto canada
Hi there, that's awesome, keep on creating!
Can we travel Kitchener to Brampton everyday for job?
From Toronto I assume? You could, but it definitely takes a lot of time to commute.
Can we take luggage, i have like 2 23 kg bags
I don't know of any restrictions. It sounds pretty reasonable to me.
@@LivinginCanada thanks
Very informative
Do u hv this Go train from Toronto to Brantford. Pls reply. N what's the cost of the ride.

Can I take go train on weekends from Toronto to Kitchener direct ?
I wish that were possible. As far as I know, there are no fast direct connections on the weekends.
@@LivinginCanada There is a bus connection via Bramalea, as I mentioned above.
Nice.
Thank you!
Thank you for the info, very useful. Ps. Salam sesama Indonesia di Toronto 😉 siapa tau one day bisa ketemuan 🙂
Thank you so much! Salam juga, yes that's very possible! All the best!
The GO train doesn't run on weekends. It's a comutter train, not a Via rail train.
Hello I want to ask you some quests
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you!
I actually bought the wrong train once
Молодец! лайк тебе!
Tried to google translate this, thanks!
