- Ireland produced one of the biggest shocks in world cup history as they overcame England in Bengaluru.
After being set an imposing target of 328 by England, as Jonathan Trott (92) narrowly missed out on a World Cup century & right-arm seamer John Mooney returned excellent figures of 4/63.
Ireland’s run chase got off to the worst possible start as they lost captain William Porterfield to the first ball of the innings. And it wouldn’t be until the loss of Ireland’s 5th wicket that their run-chase started to pick up serious momentum. As the pair of Kevin O’Brien and Alex Cusack put on a remarkable 162 runs for the 6th wicket partnership, a World Cup record stand.
That wouldn’t be the only record to be broken as Kevin O’Brien’s herculean 100 off just 50 balls became the fastest World Cup century in the tournament's history. Guiding Ireland to the brink of victory O’Brien finally fell, leaving the winning moment to John Mooney as his boundary sealed victory for Ireland and sparked scenes of jubilation.

That time I was in 6th standard and we discuss about cricket match in class with friends. That time cricket was very interesting and joyful to watch because of Sachin Tendulkar, Virendar Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni, Gautam Gambhir, Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan Singh and many other players. We have fond of memories with 2011 Cricket WC.

Really what a time was that , I didn't had phone that time but we had the daily newspaper n maybe if u two remember the whole match schedule came printed on the papers (I'm cricket addict too) so what i did is i cut out that paper n kept it under my bed coz that time it was most safest place ever to keep things ..

I was 10 y/o watching match with my father and there were many reasons in this match to switch off tv
1) England made 300+ target
2) Opponents were Ireland
3) loosing early wickets of Ireland
But then comes Kevin O'Brien what a knock superb this is called comeback. I watched full match with my dad and really enjoyed that.

I remember getting these tickets thinking it was actually the India vs England game on that day. Had to go either way since I spent money on the tickets and in hindsight, one of the best matches I’ve had the privilege of experiencing live at the stadium. Take a bow, Kevin! Still get goosebumps revisiting this match!

I was in class eight in 2011 and at that time I was in a tour with my family members; and in between the tour, I was sneaking in some local shops for watching the scorelines. A memorable moment that was, 10 years have passed, but still this match is shining like polar star in my mind and pray to god to make Ireland as a superpower in cricket.

I remember watching this match and the role alex cussack played in that match was pivotal. In highlights we don't see it but he rotated the strike very well and got the odd boundries when needed. He and o'brien changed the whole game.

I still remember this innings, there was no way England was losing that match and I dont know why I was still watching it then but I am glad that I did because what I witnessed was pure magic. Back in 2011 scoring 100 off 50 was something not many batsman can do especially a player from an associate nation. When he started hitting Swann over mid-wicket I thought if he continues playing like that he would get out after 1 or 2 hits but he kept going. It was truly a remarkable innings. Its a shame that Kevin O'Brian didnt live up to his legend after this innings. Easily among my top 3 ODI knocks.

The BCCI, Cricket Australia and the ECB have such a stronghold on the ICC. Unless the system becomes more democratic, the same love that you or I have for this sport can never spread to other nations. Hopefully this changes soon, and more associate nations are given opportunities to participate in future tournaments!

Ireland has played and will play tests and loi. They get the recognition they deserve. It's just that adding more teams to the 50 over world cup is not feasible yet. Moreover the respective boards have to be confident enough in their teams. But they are gonna implement that on t20 wc from this year. There'd probably be 16 teams.
