Best wishes for 2023 Ross , great to see you back on the Beetle. On the subject of heating i installed a cheap Chinese 12v 5kw diesel heater in my workshop before Christmas and it works a treat. Its run of 30amp ac to dc transformer . My heart breaks for you seeing how frustrated you are with this door situation.
HA! Turns out I have to do the same thing. My beetle was on a frame and it fell off bending it down at the heater channel and that bent the body frame (shell) and the door is out of alingment just as you showed. The door is well aligned on the front (A pillar) but not on the top or B pillar. I am going to try a similar approach. Hope this all worked out.
Feel your pain having over 30 aircools ,number of reasons paint, new rubber seal but still a nice looking bug Ross . Move on and come back to it .oh maybe leave it jacked up for a day or so (door with wood). Great effort and little jobs next then springtime enjoy!! Happy new year
Good video I'm going to change the subject a little how about a video on that beetles engine what parts it's made of what it's based on power figure approx etc As a man about to attempt to build a 1641 I'd be very interested . How would it compare with the mg power wise ? Love the videos cheers
It might be easier (but more costly if someone else is going to do it), to lift the body off the floorpan and align everything properly. I feel for you, after that clown butchered the bodywork and paint so badly.
My garage is about the same as yours and I have a 3KW heater which works fine for me, take the chill off anyway. Are you in a position to try a completely different door. those hinges look week to me (could be the camera angle) Agree with the bad taste, I had mine painted by a clown, apparantly a VW specialist too.
Great video Ross, your getting there just don’t fall out with the beetle it looks fantastic you should be really proud of it
Thanks. I'm starting to get back into it now. I think once I get it to a reasonable standard, I'll feel better about it.
Happy New Year Ross, looking forward to more content in 2023.
Cheers Mick! Same to you.

Ideally, the door alignment should be done with the weatherstripping and the striker removed from the door before adjustment.

you need the centre of the body raised off the chassis ?
You probably need to overcompensate lifting the a pillar to allow for it settling when you let it down

My beetle had been welded wrong at the rear
