Gayatri Mantra is the most powerful one for who seeks enlightenment. Gayatri mantra is considered as the Mother Mantra. Gayatri is the Mother of Vedas, Mother of knowledge.
ॐ भूर् भुवः स्वः ।
तत्स॑वि॒तुर्वरेण्यं॒
भर्गो॑ दे॒वस्य॑धीमहि ।
धियो॒ यो नः॑ प्रचो॒दया॑त् ॥
oṃ bhūr bhuvaḥ svaḥ
tatsaviturvareṇyaṃ
bhargo devasyadhīmahi
dhiyo yo naḥ prachodayāt
Rigveda
By meditating on Gayatri you can achieve purity and clarity of thoughts. The Gayatri is dedicated to The Sun God (Savitur) thus who meditate on Gayatri Mantra will achieve a brilliant consciousness just like the brilliant Sun.
There are 1000s of interpretations of this powerful mantra. The following is just one of them. "I meditate on That Light which as bright as the Sun, who illuminates the three worlds or Trinity aspects of nature, source of all life, who is most adorable, the effulgence of the divine powers. May That Sun illumine my Intellect".
A dedicated Sadhaka should keep in mind that the meaning to any Sanskrit mantra is very personal, depends on how each one experiences a mantra in her/his meditation.
The Gayatri is a complete prayer for protection, nourishment and finally, liberation. Also many uses this mantra for a prosperous life!
How to use the Gayatri Mantra for meditation?
You may choose to sit in any comfortable pose or lie down if you are unable to sit still for a long time. Use a headphone for the powerful experience of the sound of Gayatri. Be relaxed totally. Bring an image of a sunrise, just the sunrise and visualize it on the inner part of your forehead. It may be challenging for a beginner, but overtime definitely it will get easier. If you can repeat the practice for a certain period of time, for some days, you will notice a tremendous shift in your consciousness. You will find that your mind becomes free of stress and panic, more confident, clarity in thinking, and no more sleeping disturbances.
