WATA: We Are Truly Assholes
Who Ate The Apples?
And Hard 4 Games is ready to introduce a hard screw driver into the plastic case of those assholes.
What A Tragic Auction
We Are Truly Amoral
They were going to be iWATA Games, but a certain Nintendo exec was willing to sue, since his surname is Iwata, the exact reverse capitalization of iWATA.... 💀🧐 Is Deniz Khan a POS? Absolutely. Does he personally hoard all of the ROM's dumped by the company? Absolutely - but no physical proof exists, without seizing all of his personal devices, storage media, and access rights to cloud services. 🤷 Does Wata Games make special efforts to "down-grade" games submitted, because they previously gave a worse example a higher score, because the inherent "rarity" was also much higher previously? Absolutely. Will I spend the money to buy a game from them, or have anything graded Absolutely. Not. I recognized Deniz from Pawn Stars, as their so-called videogame expert. He personally gave low valuations on games at the Pawn Stars counter, and made a side deal to buy them at below market value. Look it up....
I find it completely disgusting when people refused to release unreleased games due to perceived value if you actually cared about games you'd want everyone to play it instead of making money on a franchise You Don't Own.
Fucking capitslism
Only thing more disgusting is people that demand they be given access to something that someone else might have spent years and large amounts of currency on from their own pockets while you offer nothing in return but insults if you don't get what you want (something that you are less entitled to, considering you did none of the work and don't own the IP,) so for your attempted argument to make sense, you'd ideally want these people to return the prerelease builds to the respective owners (Nintendo, Sony, Capcom, etc) for them to safe keep.
People like you are the reason the rest of the world won't get to see the prerelease builds I have amassed over three decades. You do yourself and every prerelease lover a disservice by driving people with the content away with your entitlement and greed.
Reminds me of that one Rare developer who brags and shows off some prototypes the community would die to get their hands on, but refuses to allow anyone to release them, even though some of that stuff is highly rottable. I get it if theres some long lasting NDA or he's afraid to because of Nintendo, but don't dangle it in front of people then.
@@Infindox right. Nintendo has sued for less.
@@Infindox It's not that he is afraid of Nintendo its that those were a gift to him from developer to developer releasing them would be very unprofessional.
It would be incredible if he would release it though because he has some incredible prototypes including the 1997 spaceworld build of Zelda 64 and a 1996 prototype of Super Mario 64. I just try to stay hopeful in the thought of that hey at least I now know these prototypes are out there in the hands of someone that isn't Nintendo I didn't think was the case.
Grading companies are the NFTs of EVERY possible "collectible" ... gonna be so glad when it's common knowledge that the plastics off-gassing are actually harming the products inside and in fact devaluing them. Just like a lot of early comic bags and boards actually ended up speeding up the deterioration of the newsprint comics.
And the moment it was released I SWEAR I could hear a tiny "freedom" from the cart.
I wish more people were aware of what damage off-gassing does. I collect records, and I also repair old electronics. The sheer damage that vinyl sleevees do to vinyl records, along with the corrosion and damage vinyl cables do to electronics too is beyond belief.
What if we took this thing and made it completely useless but then said it's worth thousands of dollars and you just believed us for some reason
@@crunchyfrog555 ...sleeving full records, sleeve and all, damages them?
@@MattTheSpratt PVC sleeves damages them. Those outer dust sleeves that you put the whole record in. If they're PVC you might notice after time they kind of stick to the cover, and that's because they've broken down and off-gassed. And when that happens the gasses also get on the vinyl itself unless you're really lucky. It makes that milky sheen on vinyl you can't get off.
Dude on the left looks like he was WATA slabbed in 2004 and they just cracked him open.
LOL I was like “I’ve watched these guys for 10 years I never knew Ronnie Radke worked with them”
5:21 “verified beta” was my nickname in college
Oh noooo 🤣🤣🤣
That's alright, nobody wants an alpha anyway. Damn thing never runs right and you need janky bodge wires in the cart to do the bank switching properly. Betas, though. Now they're fun to play with.
@@hard4games UA-cam offers to translate this to English and removes one of the 'o's when I do.
@@BonkedByAScoutit adds 1 for me 😂
@@mischiefthedegenerateratto7464 For me, it changes nothing! 😑 😉
I have only ever owned precisely one prototype. I dumped it online shortly after receiving it. These things deserve to be preserved and publicly available.
Which one was that one is you don't mind me asking?
Surprisingly I don't own a single prototype.
It’s a prototype for The Incredibles on PS2. A wacky game but I game I am also very familiar with.
The best thing I did was to create a compilation of EAGL NFS demos for ps2. It came from the PS2 Magazine demo, then to some website (now gone), and I managed to collect them
same but make it 20 prototypes.
Holy damn, it's the original 3 Hard4Games stooges! So awesome to see ya'll together again!
my heart soars whenever a prototype or other piece of history is freed from one of these microplastic-laden tombs.
WATAs are the NFTs of roms
correct
This is arguably worse, as it condemns these pieces of history to be lost to bitrot over time.
Your comment reminded me of a thing that was advertised through UA-camr sponsor integrations during the height of the cryptocurrency craze, I can't remember what it was called but it was basically Masterworks but for physical copies of video games, maybe even run by the same people.
Mmmmm, gaming history and microplastics.
My internal narration read that comment in a Yoda voice thanks to your avatar
Thanks for freeing that innocent game from its WATA-prison.
1:56 I love how it went straight from "He passed away." to "He was a D***." 😂
6 minutes in and I just realized, did they turn the "preserve" case into a bottle for drinks?
Can I just say, I loved the drinking out of the smashed WATA case.... also looked tasty
Sometimes i cant get to sleep knowing the Resident Evil 1.5 +80% build its still out there and can dissapear anytime by the reasons said on this video im happy for the Star Wars and NES fans out there
The torture to the wata case was on par of drinking from the skull of your enemies.
"l used to have this really nice pair of rollerblades. l was afraid if l wore them, l'd wreck them. So l kept them in a box. Do you know what happened? I outgrew them. I never wore them once outside. l just wore them in my room a couple times."
Oh my god, the cocktail cracked me up. That's hilarious - you should grow sea monkeys in that container!!
Making the tomb into a drink vessel is just icing on the cake.
Hoping you get more of these cracked and drink more WATA tears!
there is NO perceived value to hogging onto dumped prototype ROMS, I definitely think it's the opposite for the ACTUAL cartridge where the rom comes from, as it's a relic and a part of history, but when it's on ONE computer, a thing so prone to failure, you NEED it in as many places as possible, you're INSANE to think otherwise.
This is 100% something certain people do to fuel their egos. It needs to be shamed and discouraged.
exclusivity has value, in the case of prototypes quite a lot as in most cases people don't really care about the actual prototype but about the exclusivity. You see this with pretty much any dumped rom of a no-name game, nobody but a handful of diehard fans actually care about the rom.
The just cratering of value of the physical prototype has been shown quite a few times when people leaked stolen backups or just dump it. Granted in the latter case you only really see it happening if someone else also has a copy.
@@relo999 "people" here meaning speculators, not human beings interested in the development of the game. Fuck 'em.
+
@@relo999 "The just cratering of value of the physical prototype has been shown quite a few times" ...and that's awesome, we don't need more "collector" scamming in the world.
@@WillowEpp they're not scamming if they're refusing to dump it. They're scamming if they're over selling it's value. Star Wars is and was a piece of shit back than and it's a piece of shit now.
@@caseystrange All treatment of video games as a store of value is a scam.
6:11 You only live once. Give them a white wine spritzer! (echoes) spritzer… spritzer… spritzer… spritzer…
I'm usually a lurker, but it was nice to see TJ back. It's a shame Richard and John's ashes couldn't be there to reunite all the original members of the crew, but this was cool too.
This might be the best use of a WATA case I've seen yet! Good on y'all for freeing the prototype
There's something so special after all these years, you guys getting shit faced, eating noodles, and preserving history. Also bring back the original hard 4 games joystick t-shirt
I only have one prototype; for the Genesis version of Moonwalker and I dumped it immediately because of the historical significance of it. It has the full Thriller song in it as well as various other differences. You guys should check it out!
That reminds me of the japanese dude who flaunted his famicom Strider proto (the game was cancelled in japan) for years only for the rom to get on the internet anyway and crater the value of his cart
Imma need the recipe on that drink, and if you DON'T officially name is "WATA Tears" I will be upset. 🤣
AHAHAHA it took me til the end of the video to realize they're drinking out of the WATA shell
Jesus, even Karl Jobst didn't go in this hard on WATA in his videos
Keep it up, fellas! 👏
I just looked over the footage around 4:43 where you compared "Newly Dumped Beta" against the "Final" version. There is also another "Previously Dumped Beta". I compared the screens from "Newly Dumped Beta" against "Previously Dumped Beta": The hex views starting at 5690, BE60, 13C90, 17E30, 1FDA0 all match, but the screen starting at 3B610 does not match. In "Previously Dumped Beta", the values at 3B610 match the Final version. This leads me to believe that "Newly Dumped Beta" is an older version than "Previously Dumped Beta".
i wasnt expecting to find you here to be honest
And it's the exact same fuckin' game isn't it? Money well spent folks! Stop going after american localization carts. You ain't findin' SHIT!
You could also use those WATA cases as an ant farm.🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜
I looks like one! Though...would kinda want an intact top....
I'd love to have cases like those for valuable collectibles or rare finds... if they were EASY TO OPEN so I could play with them as intended
Sure! Nothing wrong with protecting your game, but this is ridiculous.
@@hard4games I have a fishing case for some of my hot wheels cars and it's very easy to open up a section and take out the cars I wanna hold and roll
Fun fact: You can trivialize most of the "hard" battles with a glitch in the normal retail version. When you come to a boss, inch up to it so that only part of its sprite is on-screen on the very edge of the screen. Equip your blaster, shoot, and then switch to the lightsaber. You'll notice the enemy flashes as it takes damage. That's literally all you have to do to defeat the bosses in this game. This does not make the platforming levels any easier, but it at least helps with the hard bosses.
When TJ said you guys were "going to enjoy liquid and semi liquid substances out of it" I sort of thought you meant it was going to metaphorically cum on you with how awesome the unreleased build was...so I somehow wasnt expecting the deadpan deleivery into the giant margarita or mojito or whatever in the remnant of the case and I completely lost it.
YESSS FUCK WATA
I'm anti wata but pro iwata
Crew looking like they're about to drop 2005's biggest Screamo hit. I love it! (please understand that this isnt an insult from me, its a compliment, I love post-hardcore/screamo!). Guy on the left side of the seen is definitely the bass player and screamer.
Also love the shade Tony's throwing shade at that a-hole "collector". RIP-in-pieces
Now everyone lets get Tim Stamper to release Conker
I'd rather respect the man and the company, personally.
@@CrAzYpotpieI mean, don't flash around that you own prototypes that can rot at any time. I respect that he probably can't because Nintendo or some other reasons but ... Come on
@@Infindox Or you could accept that you don't get to personally have something just because it exists, like a decent human being. Show some respect.
@@CrAzYpotpie get a grip
@@CrAzYpotpieI agree with respect as in not bothering him, but to just admit defeat about a piece of history like that is wrong. I know ultimately nothing matters but I and many others would not only love to see what is in those protos but also to use their concepts in our own projects.
Good, those rating box things are a joke and "collectors" are scum
Right! I loved how they disrespected the case after breaking it open too. I was not expecting that lol
We don't call people like that collectors, we call those hoarders :v
watching the WATA box get smashed open was the most satisfying thing I've witnessed in a long time
Im surprised people do this with games, i can understand cards, or figures being preserved in plastic for all eternity because what you see is all you get out of them but games are designed to be played, the game itself is digital, all you are preserving in that plastic is the plastic casing containing the game
Well done fellows, it's awesome to see that you managed to preserved this gem. Kudos for being among the good guys.
Drinking a cocktail out of the plastic tomb you cracked open is such a power move!
I loved your comedic flow together. Also you guys were fearless.
Great video! I was so worried one of you guys were going to elbow the others in the face trying to pull that case open... lol
From the title, I was expecting another customs enforcement horror story.
HOLY SHIT! Haven't seen TJ in forever!
i love it how TJ is just sitting there like :| throughout 95% of the video lol mood
warms my heart to see all the guys back in the same room!
"The giant grasshopper that Link has to kill" hahaha
Hey Guys, I've been subbed to Hard4Games for a very long time and I pop back in from time to time. It's really nice to see the old gang back together. Thanks for all the videos! Did you find the concord keys?
this reminds me of drinking out of the water ring toss game as a kid
Great to see TJ again. We really need to get Richie back.
Great episode with the hard boys!
Awesome to see TJ again! Haven't aged a day!
I've missed videos like this so much. You guys are truly hilarious.
Your doing the Lord's work here guys.
"Tastes like WATA tears" gimme the recipe for that. I would ask for a 3d print file of the case but it wouldn't be as authentic to the experience lol
I always like seeing the original crew come back now and then!
No way, I thought TJ was just a fever dream I had 14 years ago.
Same 😅
Daaaamn, I thought they were just fancy boxes! Really cool cocktail glass, guys.
I think this might be the closest to the old videos in a long time
This was a classic style H4G video, loved it!
The commentary around the death is hilarious lmao 😂
TJ! It's cool to see him again. I hope the rest of the old H4G crew is doing well.
Good to see another ROM is free
The new cocktail jug was a classy touch 👌
Bravo lads!
TJ!!!!!!!
HE'S ALIVE (AND WELL)
He didnt age one bit. Love this guy like you wouldnt believe
TCHOO TCHOO HAZOO
These are the type of people I respect very much. Thank you for your transparency gentlemen.
Wata? More like Watto
Top 10 funniest star wars jokes
Aaaeeeeehhhh...
This is excellent. I'm very happy you did this.
I watched you drink out of that thing for a full minute before realising what it was. I laughed. Keep doing the good work ❤
now do this to every wata game tomb, those guy suck so hard
I wonder if you could create a tool that fits around the entire mold and has a flat handle on top connecting to it. So that you can smack it with a mallet and split the entire case apart in one hit.
Either that or open the case nondestructive and stick E.T. in there.
I love these guys, hope all is having a fantastic day!
I hate how it took me a good minute to realize you were drinking out of the protector lol
All the thumbs up for this one!! Thank you Team!!!
Goddamnit, it took me until the end of the video to realize what that strange food container actually was...
Thank you gentlemen, for doing actual preservation! F Wata!
This is why I love this channel. You guys are hilarious. Aside from obviously the content here :D
Take the game, out of the container, eat it, and drink it. Who knows where it has been
What an amazing job you guys do. Priceless
"taste like wata tears" really made my day 😂, thx for your work! 👍🙏
Finally, some action 52 related media (shares similarities with the game, plaintext, sound engine)
My understanding is VGHF has the ROMs too but they're not permitted to release them per their agreement with WATA.
2:02 realest moment ever
I love the fact that you cracked the case open, poured mixed drinks in it, and then ramen(?) in it. I really want you to actually send this video to WATA to see their reaction. LMFAO.
Nice a star wars game! I love them Star wars are always nice.
Holyshit TJ! That's a Hard 4 Games 2010 member!
What is the background music that plays at the 4:00 mark? Seems very familiar and N64 era and hear it in some of your videos.
Hell yeah, one with the crew
Dude's lookin like 2003 Tom Delonge and I'm all for it.
Sealed for end of times in a box and lost forever for all
But this over now, congrats, hopes are saved for many
It's still gonna deteriorate like any cartridge and it's info would have been lost
Bahaha that was gold. Really twisting the knife there
This episode is a masterpiece
6:10 Was that a Ned Flanders reference 🙃
Absolutely. I just can't get enough of Flanders' best moments.
"tastes ilke WATA tears" really got me xD
This video is a perfect example of why I subscribe to this channel. Love you guys!
I love how you all care about games and gamers! Stay awesome!
Doing gods work as always, thank you lads!
while the video itself was amusing that ending shot was beautiful.
Thank you! We figured a nice peaceful shot to end the video would be appropriate. 😄
@@hard4games after the drink, the curry and the piss. ending up as a flowerpot is the "best" ending for the case.
