My Great Nan used to watch the snooker and I would curl into the side of the armchair and fall asleep. One of those really comforting sleeps.

Crikey this brings back memories. When I was a kid, if I had a nightmare and went downstairs to sit with mum and dad for comfort, snuggling up to my dad, they were invariably watching late night snooker and it used to really calm me down listening to the click clack and the commentary.

If you were working class British you grew up with this. It got insanely popular, because when colour television was introduced, it was everywhere on Brit TV because it was so cheap for broadcasting companies to televise and produce. Just point two cameras at a table.

You know the main goal is pretty simple, they just got to pot red balls and other colours alternatively. Each colour earns 1 (red) to 7 points (black), and the guy with most points wins the frame/table/set call it how you want, and then the first to reach a fixed number of frames wins the whole match.

Snooker: Big table, 15 red balls and 6 colored balls (yellow, green, brown, blue, pink and black)

Billiards: The parent of cue sports which applies to both snooker and pool

I'm glad to choose snooker as my sport of choice if I ever decide to become an athlete and to represent Malaysia someday, even though I dislike snooker when I was little (it's not that this sport is boring, it's just that my mom used to tell me that snooker is negative (smoking, loitering and gambling) but thankfully, she supports my goals nowadays)! I just appreciate the quiet environment (I will never enjoy it in football and badminton) and the only sound I like to listen is the sound of balls hitting each other! #gemuruhsuara

Only the game pool wishes it was.
The objective is to clear all the balls from the table. You get points for potting each one, 1 for a red, 2 for yellow, 3 for green, 4 for brown, 5 for pink and 7 for yellow. You have to pot a red ball before you can go for a different colour though. E.g, red, blue, red, pink, red, yellow, red, blue, red green etc etc. You can only hit a colour ball after you've potted a red. Whoever has the most points once the balls have been cleared wins what's called a frame. Each game is made up of various frames. Some games could be best of 11 frames, the final of the world championship is best of 35. This means games can go on for hours so they break the play up into sessions. Top snooker players makes millions, and are extremely skilled.
