  • We take a look at how to get retro games emulators set up on a Chromecast with Google TV 4K. The Chromecast is a cool little device for playing retro games on and comes with your favourite streaming apps too such as Netflix and Disney+ and because its Google Certified you can stream at full quality. The main problem is that the play store versions of the emulators don't really work. Let me show you how to get emulators that do work even with scoped storage up and running.

    Will this work with the HD chromecast instead of the 4k model?

    • @RetroGamesGuide
      @RetroGamesGuide  8 місяців тому +3

      The same method to install the emulators and access your ROMs on the USB drive should work fine but the performance of the HD model will be a bit worse than the 4K. You should have no issues with 8 & 16 bit systems such as NES, Master System, SNES and Genesis. Genesis 32X and PlayStation should also run pretty well too. The issue will likely be with the more demanding systems such as N64, Dreamcast and PSP which will have less performance than the 4K as it has a less powerful chip than that model. Definitely worth a go though.

    How do i open retroarch menu to close the game and change it without closing the app?

    • @RetroGamesGuide
      @RetroGamesGuide  7 місяців тому +3

      You need to set hotkeys in the retroarch input settings to open the quick menu. You can set it to L3 + R3 if you have analogue sticks that have buttons or choose something like L1 +R1 if not. Once you have the hotkeys set you can open the quick menu and use the close content option to close the game and return to the retroarch menu.

      Is this the chromecast 4K? Are you getting retroarch from the retroarch site rather than Google play? I’d also try an older version of retroarch as that might work.

      @@RetroGamesGuideOn such low end devices like the CCWGTV, what core is being used makes all the difference. PCSX Rearmed is the only one running all games smoothly for me on this device. Some 2D or not demanding games allow increasing resolution, but other would barely cover the 30/60 fps ..

      It can probably run them but whether you can navigate to where your ROMs are stored could be the issue.

    • @RetroGamesGuide
      @RetroGamesGuide  6 місяців тому +1

      I just used a Micro SD card with a USB adapter but any cheapish USB stick should also do the job. I’d stick to a named brand like Sandisk though. You just need to format it as FAT32. Use something like rufus to format it if you are on Windows.

    PSP games ain't listing on my end (using latest PPSSPP 1.17.1). What format are your PSP games?

    • @RetroGamesGuide
      @RetroGamesGuide  6 місяців тому

      Have you entered the path to your usb stick rather than trying to navigate to it? Mine were cso files but whatever PPSSPP supports should work. Did you get the apk from the PPSSPP site rather than play store too?

    • @stzokev
      @stzokev 6 місяців тому

      @@RetroGamesGuideYes, I've entered the path to the USB, then navigated to the PSP folder but as soon as I open it, it doesn't list any games, but all of them are actually there. Mine are cso as well. I can play them just fine if I navigate to them via X-Plore file manager, but it is way more easy and user friendly if they list inside the emulator itself. Oh well ..

      That happened to me on the onn box when I did a video for that. I wonder if the same method would work for you on the chromecast. ua-cam.com/video/vycgmqKit_0/v-deo.html

    • @stzokev
      @stzokev 6 місяців тому

      @@RetroGamesGuideYeah although you do not show it in the video it sounds like the same thing and we use the same workaround. The games do show at recent, but not forever and app update definitely clears them out. I've installed the PPSSPP through the app store, because I want it to update when there is a new version, since performance on this emulator keeps improving.
