Anyone who regards this as creepy was never lucky enough to experience it's beautiful brilliance as a child. Ignorance isn't always bliss.

I associate this with my mom a ton. She is still alive but she tossed it at me verbally when my grandmother died.
She'll love you forever, she'll like you for always, as long as you're living your grandma she'll be.

My mom read this to me after my teacher did and I came home and tried to describe it and started crying . She went out and found the book and surprised me with it. I always cried but I always wanted her to read it to me. The back and forth part hit so hard. I was 5. I will never forget being afraid of a hurricane that hit our town and she read me this and I calmed down enough to sleep. I'll read this poem at her funeral. This book is the epitomy of how my mom and dad loved me. I'm 30 and still have them but they run to me if I am sick or hurt or anything. As long as I live, their baby I'll be....

I am sitting here listening to this, after my second miscarriage in four months, with tears streaming down my face. You really do love your babies forever, no matter what happens. Even when you only carry them for a short time, even when your heart is breaking into a thousand pieces from the pain of knowing you'll never hold them, that love never ends. They take a piece of your heart when they leave you and it's theirs forever. It's the most painful kind of love there is.

I remember about 25 years ago my mom read me this book. Her health has steadily been declining the last 10 years. I flew out to see her and early yesterday morning after seeing her with my father and older sisters earlier in the week I stopped by her rest home on my way out one last time. I read her this same book that she read to me all those years ago. I love my mother, I will never see her again in this mortal life, but I know I will in the next.

+Tin Man "Each time my feet touched the earth I knew my mother was there with me. I knew this body was not mine but a living continuation of my mother & my father & my grandparents & great-grandparents. Of all my ancestors. Those feet that I saw as "my" feet were actually "our" feet. Together my mother & I were leaving footprints in the damp soil. From that moment on, the idea that I had lost my mother no longer existed. All I had to do was look at the palm of my hand, feel the breeze on my face or the earth under my feet to remember that my mother is always with me, available at any time." ~ Thich Nhat Hanh

I am getting up in years - (I had him when I was 40). This book, and the Joy it would bring to Both of Us when I would read it to him is PRICELESS. As I imagine Your Mother and You experienced when She would read it to you.... AND especially when YOU read it to Her. Thank You for sharing. God Bless You.🥰

I gave this book to my sister when her son was born. This book has such special memories for my family. My nephew loved this story and I'll never forget his laughter - pure joy - when that two year old flushed his mothers watch. Tragically, he died shortly after his 17th birthday and at his service my sister read this book. When she had finished reading about the 16 year oid boy she closed the book and said that was where his story ended. It was one of the most heart breaking things I had ever heard. I will never forget his joyful laugh and I wanted to share the impact that this story has had on my family. It will never be forgotten.

I read this to my sons since they were little and I know it by heart. My uncle was diagnosed with cancer at 74 and my grandmother was with him when he died and she told me she just held him and told him that she loved him. She told me he was her baby even though he was 74. My grandma died 6 months later and I went to the hospital and made damn sure I told her I loved her. This book is about love going generation to generation. I love you Nee with all of my heart.

It's such a strange experience reading these comments about people moms reading and singing to them when they were little. It's a weird feeling because I know moms are supposed to do these things, but my mom neglected me, beat me badly, called me bad names, was mean and passive aggressive towards me and I didn't understand why because I was always so sweet and respectful toward her. I feared her greatly because I knew any mess up would earn me a great beating. I forgive her though and I love her. I hope we will grow close some day.
I'm so happy to know your mom read to you❤😊

If you think this is creepy you're taking it too literally. The point is that no matter how old our children get, we always feel like that mom rocking her baby and singing of her love for him. Of course an old lady can't go pick up her adult son and carry him to the chair! It's symbolic! I read this to my babies & I still feel EXACTLY the same way about them as adults; if they ever needed rocking, I'd gladly gather them onto my lap, hug them tight, and rock their troubles away.

I was adopted by my grandparents, so obviously having a mom who was your grandmother was amazing and I was very attached to her when I was little. I cried every morning because I didn't want her to leave me when I had to go to school because I thought I would see her again. She read this story every other night, just had to listen to it once more time. Right now she's on life support and I am living in another state just waiting for the call feeling so guilty. But life is what it is,the only thing we know for sure is that someday we die.

I was a teen by the time the book came out, but I still liked it when she came in at night and did that. Years later she was old, sick and dying and got to tell her those words back as I kissed her on the forehead. She cried Then of course I cried. Being a mum makes you put that little life first before yours, & you know you'll go miles, climb mountains & do almost anything for your baby. A child always occupies that special place in mummy's heart even when he goes astray, that's mothers love.

We read great literature, like Munsch's book "I Love You Forever" because it allows us a glimpse into the author's life, mind and heart whether real or imagined. The rocking and song are allegorical and represent the actions we take in life that illustrate unconditional love. In "I Love You Forever", Munsch has managed to convey, in a way that even the youngest reader or listener can appreciate: the quality, beauty and endurance of a parent's love for their child. That at the same time, his work elicits the strongest of emotional responses and sheds light on the cyclic nature of life, love and death makes it a masterpiece.

Oh my gosh... I remember this book, and my mother used to read it to me. My mother just went home after flying half way across the world to help me with my new baby girl.
I think people are getting way too caught up in how over the top this book is (I'm pretty sure it's intentional), but the sentiment is strong. A cycle of unconditional love for your child is a wonderful thing. Just because we get older, things change, the love of a parent, someone who never cared if you were sometimes hard to deal with, didn't care what you looked like, and who gave you what you needed, it's beautiful. Like me and as I hold my baby girl now, I can't help but feel so much gratitude to my mother who has never stopped supporting me. I look at my girl too, and no matter how old she gets or what happens, I want to be the same kind of person who lets her know she means something deeply special to me. Adults get so caught up in the hardships of life, it's comforting to know someone who has seen you every step of your life cares about your happiness and success. We aren't all lucky to have such parents, I know, but for those who do, don't take it for granted.
If you had even a decent mother who tried her best, go hug her if you get the chance. You never know how long they have.

When I was a kid my mom read me this story and I cared for her all my life with her being wheel chair bound and as I grew up before her eyes she would always tell me my baby you’ll be and when I was 19 and she was laying in the hospital bed and I’d would rock in the chair back and forth every night I was In there and I couldn’t help but to remember this book and the last words I utter before she passed was I love you forever Iike you for always as long as I’m living my mommy you’ll be. Give your mother all the love you can they aren’t always going to be here

When I was a little girl my dad would always read this book to me. If I ever have kids I'll read this book to them and hope I dont cry by the ending like I always do.

I remember my mom always used to read this to me, my mom is in a bad place now, but she used to love me as well.
This is very sentimental now, and it brings some tears to my eyes now (especially the ending).
When I pass away, I want this to be played.

I am pregnant with my first son and his grandfather just ordered this book so I can read it to him everyday! He'll think it's cheesy when he gets a little older but he will learn to appreciate it one day just like I learned to appreciate the meaning of this book from reading it when I was a little girl. :)

My mom used to read this to me almost every night when I was little. Until I was about 10, I would actually go find this book and make her read it to me. I came across a quote from this book today written on a bakery chalkboard, and I told my mom that I'm coming over and making her read it to me. Haha. I'm 21 years old and I still love this book. I can't wait until I can read it to my children.

This was my favorite book with my mom when I was a kid. Who knows why. I didn't understand the magnitude, obviously...maybe I liked the pictures? But def one of the first books I bought for my (now toddler) daughter. Was shocked to see it on the shelves, and couldn't leave the store without it. And I'm not too proud to admit i have not ONCE finished reading it to her at bedtime without crying. Lol. I try, I really do!...But the best I can get is to the part where he moves out, maybe the next page, and I just lose it like a blubbering buffoon! (Let alone the end!) Def a timeless kids' book that more people should know about! Thanks for sharing your narration!

My mother would read this to me all the time when I was a kid. I’m almost 28 now and she’s just been diagnosed with dementia. This hits hard now more than it ever has. It used to be a happy book. Now it’s a reminder of how short life is. It’s always going to hold a place in my heart

@deppfan85 its not creepy...Parents are going to be our parents until the day we dies and more...they will always consider us their babies and treat us like that...they will be with us no matter what...they are what we are going to have forever...and will never betray us...

I just remembered this story out of nowhere, i wasnt even positive on the title, but i found it, funny that it would stay in my subconscious 5 yr old memories when nothing else has. when i was in kindergarden i got this book, and my teacher read it to the class for story time, and she cried her eyes out while she read it. looking back, i didnt get it, but hearing it again now its so so sweet, and now i tear up hearing it. lovely story
