I saw OMD last week at the Flashback Festival in Clumber Park, Notts. They were fantastic live and have had their songs in my head ever since. This song came out the year I was born and I think it's bloody ace!
One of OMD's very best pop tunes; and I love the subversive lyrics about saving souls and the "power to the state". Neat. I listened to this on a bus on the way to my holiday destination in summer '84. Perfect! I have a theory that every band has a train song. This is OMD's.
Train songs...Queen have Breakthru, even if more due to the video than the theme, Bowie has Station to Station, again loosely and mostly for the opening bit.

right what people comment about this band cannot get this track out of your head the same for me. this band is perfection im a huge omd fan and this track allways does it for me love this so much.
OMD had so many hits. I’m listening to them all again now and this is the 10th. They were really big in the 80s I didn’t really know they had so many hits
I was just a 1st grader or so...my mom use to rock this and some of thier other songs. Till this day I remember her driving around and this song coming on the radio. I know she had the cassette.
The magic that is music, because if you were to give me a year and ask me where I was and what I was doing, I wouldn't have much of a clue. However, I can remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when this song first came out.
Ever since I saw this video in 1984, I've always wondered, are they referencing Dr. Zhivago at 0:48, and Merry Christmas, Mister Lawrence at 1:13 (those two look suspiciously like Jack Celliers and Capt. Yonoi)?
And, above all, the scenes on the train are a clear homage to one of Agatha Christie's most famous novels, "Murder on Orient Express". Really, an interesting and creative video, an original story in more or less three minutes.
it's amazing how timeless their music has become as their most recent album debuted at #2 in the u.k. album charts while the beatles had their first #1 song in the u.k. since "the ballad of john and yoko". hey it's a win for liverpool. oh and the stones' new album went top 10 in both the states and u.k. and is doing well.
Is it weird that i find OMD's Junk Culture album to be the one i listen to most during the summer? Maybe Crush is a close second, but there's something just so warm and "pop" about that LP that's fitting for 100+ degree weather.

Ha! You can say "One of OMD's best pop tunes" about most of their songs!
Train songs...Queen have Breakthru, even if more due to the video than the theme, Bowie has Station to Station, again loosely and mostly for the opening bit.
Summer of 84 yes!
GREAT SONG
This classic gem was released by orchestral manoeuvres in the dark in April '84
O.m.d were a fantastic band throughout the 80s and into the 90s ❤❤🎉🎉😂😂
that bass line just keeps going.... quality
I love how simple their bass lines are, but no-one else thought of them before they did.
1984 Fantastico !! CLASSIC !!
Timeless classic !
1984 - 2024 - 40 years!
OMD are probably the most known unknown band ever. Their music is everywhere on adverts , tv shows, films, local radio. The ‘indie’ Beatles
Brit Box commercials!
Maybe if they weren't called "Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark" people would know about them 😂😂
Disagree. OMD are well known.
i have no idea who these people are, i saw it at the record store yesterday and decided to give it a shot, and holy shit its amazing
One of the biggest bands of the 1980s in the UK.
Get all their albums, you won't regret it.
Always liked this video and song of course
I remember buying this single and doing the 'handclaps' while listening to it!

Thank u, 80s. Yr decade kicked sum serious a$$🍑🥲😍🤩🙌
These guys should've been called Orchestral Maneouvres in Time. At 3:10 there's a laptop, years before it became commercially available.
ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE WITH MONEY!
es una maleta (español) :-)
I thought it was the briefcase from Pulp Fiction.
Its a briefcase with light coming out of it when opened lol
Its not a briefcase! It was disguised as a briefcase to make you think they weren't time travelers.
Within the first few seconds I was back in the pub I used to go to, oh good grief, thirty five years ago.
Wooooow! Me fascina , me encanta y me transporta a eso años dorados de los años 80s. La mejor época de oro!
OMD had so many hits. I’m listening to them all again now and this is the 10th. They were really big in the 80s I didn’t really know they had so many hits
