  • Part 6 We will be doing a detailed cleaning of the intake parts and cylinder head. This step most techs won't do this type of cleaning when doing a major tear down, but we do!! Though this is tedious work, but it is a recommended part of this tear down and rebuild for the 3.5L V6.

Awesome Videos (I watched the whole QX4 Series) ... Just curious, you mentioned that the little Philips head screws on the butterflies sometimes back out so you were going to take 'em out and add some Red Loctite ... With that in mind, why didn't you just unscrew the butterfly valves to clean them, and then reinstall with the Red Loctite.
PS I came across your Channel because my 04 Pathfinder is overheating ... Not knowing there was a Water Control Valve (2nd Thermostat) I replaced the Water Pump, Thermostat and Radiator and still have the overheating problem! ... I hope replacing the Water Control Valve/2nd Thermostat fixes my problem

Thank you for the wonderful comment. Once parts have worn in a pattern you really don't want to disassemble the butterfly valves which is why I cleaned them in place. This is one job you can over clean the butterfly system and cause new bushing wear which could cause the shafts to cease up. The Red Loctite side of this repair we did off camera because we took one screw out at time so we didn't have to worry about the butterfly valve moving on the shaft. The rear water control valve controls flow from the rear half of the engine so if that sticks it will over heat. Please let me know if that fixes your over heating issue I'm interested in knowing.
