    Very helpful video. I've learned quite a bit more from this video then Steigen's website.

    One thing I learned from my own journey, there's actually no such thing as a 15A switch in sg, so even though the switch has a 20A printed on it, it could still be a 13A or 15A connector. This makes it tricky to know which is which without a licensed electrician to test your wiring. The reason for this is, while you want dedicated switches for some things like heater, hob, hood, steigen, aircon etc, your overall load in a HDB is 40A. Another example is, if you run an induction hob in a HDB, the point is actually rated for 15A and you're supposed to get a hob that can adjust the total Wattage down to match 15A, but your electrician is likely to give you a 20A switch because there's no 15A switch commonly used. If you count all your 20A switches, you'll find the total probably exceeds 40A, and yet you should be able to turn everything+ your Aircon on. (If not, it will trip your MCB, and signal that you have an overcurrent issue at home that is a potential hazard).
    But guess what? The electrician will charge you a higher price for 20A points, regardless of the actual rating of the point.

      Thanks for sharing! What are the pros and cons to using a 20A switch for an automated laundry system?

    • @moltenbullet
      @moltenbullet Рік тому

      @@thesuakus for steigen, there is no benefit at all. You can also connect it to a 6A light point/switch or a 13A wall outlet, and it will perform identically. At the most it's an aesthetic choice, if you're "hiding" your steigen switch together with your 20A hood and hob switches behind a cabinet door.

    There's plenty of solar pro videos which keep talking about the same thing --- its installation process, its functions and features.
    But whats lacking on the web are other key info like ---
    1. Maintenance: how to clean?
    2. How exactly to setup the Steigen App (tried several times and means, all failed). Hope to have other users to share alternatives than having to buy (spend additonal $$) and needing to place another wired device just to sync it to google nest.
    Honestly expected a bit more from here since your previous content standards are very high😅

      Hello Alexis, thanks for taking your time to pen your feedback 😀 Hope you can appreciate that making videos is not easy whilst juggling many other life commitments post-reno 😅 Whatever we publish, we can say with confidence it is our best effort at that point in time.
      Solar Pro is newly launched and we're sure there is only one (?) or so other dedicated videos about it on YT, and ours is probably the most detailed one for interested buyers.
      We didn't share about connecting the Steigen App because we thought it was quite self explanatory with the detailed instructions provided during installation day (installer could have helped upon request) www.steigen.com.sg/pages/steigen-connect
      Instead, we spent time to walk through the more complex, undocumented one which is Google Home set-up. If you realise, Google Home is often left out from their marketing/specs because it is not that straightforward. This was an important question/answer we personally wanted to know before, and thought it would benefit those who are building their smart home. We also included Tuya, which other fellow smart home users would probably be familiar with. The steps for Tuya is exactly the same as for Steigen Home (which is a Tuya-based app).
      Maintenance-wise, we haven't reached that stage but when we dismantled our previous laundry system which was used for a few months, we're surprised to see it very clean.. almost dust-free (which is a rarity because we often find our doggos fur everywhere) so laundry systems seem pretty self-cleaning if the blower is used weekly.. otherwise, we believe simple vacuum or air spray would help 😀 wouldnt use any chemicals whatsoever.

      Thanks for your reply!
      PSA for other users too, after over 6 months of usage, it's generally ok. Didn't clean the fan area above and inside; but there are definitely dust frequently found on top of the racks and poles, and even the metal string. so be sure to put them all the way down and wipe them frequently.
      And for the app, even thou the website is self explanatory, it doesn't work. Tried to find UA-cam vid for the app (which is not for solar pro per se), doesn't work too :(
      Am not keen to add more devices and wires just to use this device remotely; and I personally find it counter intuitive to have purchase+install more devices just to use steigen remotely - this is the part that's largely disappointing for me.

      @@n0buhiro Hi again! Thanks for sharing😀
      To clarify once more, you don't need to buy anything extra in order for basic control via phone app. All you need is WiFi and follow the instructions to set up your Steigen Home app. Maybe you can get Steigen to troubleshoot the set-up.
      Our method is for advanced smart home users who want to control it via Voice (Google Home) or together with other smart devices (Tuya/Broadlink) through rule-based automation - e.g. if Ceiling Light on, then Steigen Light on 😀

    • @thesuakus
      @thesuakus  Рік тому +7

      Ahah in full transparency and honesty, we had a chance to use another brand (also Tuya-based) prior to Steigen's sponsorship. While that cost half of Steigen, the quality/make is really quite a stark difference after having used them both. And it is not easy to present/compare them on video because viewers can only see the aesthetics difference (Steigen looking more sleek and polished etc) and not able to touch or feel the difference in quality (air flow, material). Our suggestion is to find someone who has a taobao version and physically interact with the devices to compare! 😃

    hey, it seems from the Steigen website that the solar dryer is only rated at 921 watts, so even a 13A plug is quite kiasu already - was there anything else you took into consideration when you decided on a 20A master switch? thanks!

    • @thesuakus
      @thesuakus  Рік тому

      Aha we really sua ku about electricals so we relied on the advise given by our electrician. 😆His suggestion was to use 20A for laundry racks with heating element. Maybe any informed viewer could shed some light on this?

This makes it tricky to know which is which without a licensed electrician to test your wiring. The reason for this is, while you want dedicated switches for some things like heater, hob, hood, steigen, aircon etc, your overall load in a HDB is still 40A regardless, and electricians install things with this limit in mind. @kaiying2899 Рік тому

      @@moltenbullet Thank you - this is helpful. During the course of your reno journey, may I please check if you have come across the requirement to build in any "buffer" for the max current for electrical appliances? For example, the hob that I am intending to purchase from Mayer is rated at 2800W. Even if we divide that number against a more conservative 220V, that would mean 12.7 A at max power (so theoretically a 13A plug would suffice) - but I was just wondering if we should get a 20A plug instead.

    • @qootle6929
      @qootle6929 Рік тому

      @@kaiying2899 It would be safe and advisable to apply the 80% rule for power loading of your electricals. For a 13A socket, max power is 13A x 230V = 2990W. So 80% of 2990W is 2392W. Hence, for induction hobs, it is recommended to get a 16/20A socket or connect at least 2.5mmsq cable to power directly the induction hob and switch via 20A switch.
