Agree, also the tension between them, wether when they were sneaky rival, separated or in dangerous situations made the relation the most realistic, IMHO.
Lois wanted Clark to trust her in Smallville. She knew him well enough to know that he’s been hiding his whole life, been an outcast. That someone knowing his secret could mean life or death for both him and them. So she didn’t tell him she knew because she wanted it to be his choice. And that’s why Smallville’s scenario is infinitely better.
Lmao, I love how Teri Hatcher's Lois picks up on something subtle like the hand/face touch and yet somehow completely misses the fact that Clark and Superman have the exact same face. Yeah, sure, the hand thing, THAT'S what gave him away! XD
The problem with Henry Cavill's Superman is that he doesn't even try to change his appearance to look like somebody else than Superman. He just throws his glasses on and calls it a day while Reeves changes his hair, glasses, speaking pattern, and his mannerisms completely to be a different person.
Except that he does change; it's very subtle, but it's there. His Clark is timid, for one thing, and easily talked down by Perry White. Besides, they're working with the idea that since Superman doesn't wear a mask, nobody even thinks that he has a civilian identity.
It took me a while to get what bothered me the most about the Snyder movies, and it's that Clark Kent isn't in them at all, with or without the suit Henry cavill is always superman

I'm old enough to have seen all of these reveals when they originally aired/showed in the theater. Reeve was incredible at making him two different people. Cain was adorable and his relationship with Lois was so cute. But, Tom and Erica is the one that brought tears to my eyes upon seeing it again. I miss that show so much. Tom was just the ultimate "Superman" for me even though he didn't put on the suit until the end of the show. However, Tyler on "Superman and Lois" is doing a bang up job, too. Overall, my husband and I feel that show is the most dramatic, the most "real", and the best produced of all of them. Of course, the passage of time has a lot to do with those productions values.
Good analyse I wasn't born during reeve era and barely born during cain's superman show So i watched them way later Both did a good job Reeve is on another tier But cain relationship with lois is very entertaining both actors jad a great synergy Let's not forget brandon Routh His performance as superman was good His lois was meh but the effects in the movie are very solid even for todays standards An interpretation between the classic and a new one
I'm old enough to have seen every Superman between generations. They are all great, when I was young I watched Superman on repeat 😅 (the one with Christopher Reeve). I loved Lois & Clark but Smallville was above I think because I love watching this series again. And today I am ectatic with Superman and Lois which I find better than the others maybe because as you say the show is the most real and the most dramatic.
Yep, my fave is smallville too, then lois and clark, then the movies. original movie with christopher reeves. Didn't like the lois from superman returns of man of steel.
What I like about the Superman II reveal is that it was completely by accident and you can tell Clark was super pissed that he played into his bumbling persona too much and made a rookie mistake like not watching where he was going
There are two things, one I don’t like and one I hate about Smallville. I didnt like that in every single episode there was a cryptonite. And I absolutely hated Lana.
@@umr7085 Lana was ok for the first few seasons, but she wore on my nerves in the later seasons. But I mean the kryptonite thing, Smallville was the epicenter for the meteor shower where all the Kryptonite came from in the show. Makes sense that it is all over the town. It is also how the vast majority of the villains got their powers.
@@sidroberts7960 Yeah I understand why Krypt is everywhere its logical no question asked. But from first to last episode Clark gets weakened but it EVERY SINGLE EPISOD, no exceptions.
There's something to this third scene Donner cut. Clarks glasses are different. He's not as dorky and clueless in his demeanor, his persona and facial expressions is actually quite dapper and his character is something between Superman and Clark. Lois is HOT AND SULTRY IN THIS SCENE. She is asking critical questions and outhinking and out witting Clark/Superman. I love the dynamics of this scene even though not as emotionally impactful as the Salkaind scene.
I think that this scene was just an test footage and they would have reshoot it if wasn't all the backstage problems with the Production company/director.
As others have said, this was test footage, and it was from Margot Kidder's audition, so it's likely that Christopher Reeve didn't yet work out every detail about his performance. Imagine how incredible this would have been if shot for the film, if the script had been revised, etc. EPIC.

Christopher was the master of transforming his entire being from Clark to superman, from nerd to a dominant man. 👏 I loved Teri and Dean. I used to cut school to watch it. They were super cute and I loved Teri as lois. She was quirky, awkward and funny. But I was tearing up with Tom and Erica. They were freaking perfect, full of emotion, love and passion. Also we get to see a glimpse of more nerdy Clark on the last few episodes of smallville, following in Christopher Reeves footsteps.
Takes me back to the magic I felt when I watched Superman for the first time as a kid. What a brilliant Clark and Lois Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder made. 👏
@@adamduarte895 i think a reboot just to destroy an identity and roots of a superhero history is totally not my thing. The time of comics for the Meanstream is long over...
I'd forgotten how good Lois and Clark was. It made the relationship real and made you really want them to be together - and, for the first time ever, finally believe that it was possible. Reeve and Kidder were epic, but also tragically doomed. Caine and Hatch were human.
Reece was the best at Clark. He changed everything about himself and really convinced people he could be two guys. Tom and Erika and Dean and Terri had the most chemistry though.
i think, that Teri Hatchers Lois reaction is best, most genuine. You see that she is upset, mad and disappointed, and you see that Clark trying to apologize, you can parallel Lois' reaction with Watson's reaction from Sherlock with Cambarbetch. Most human reactions!
I have been a Superman fan since the 60s. Margot Kidder was the best Lois Lane ever. Everytime I see these clips of her and seeing how devilishly clever she was, seeing her cute smile and then confronting Clark, makes me fall for her bigtime. I have tears in my eyes right now. RIP sweet lady.
Honestly I love Reeves and Kidder. And I completely Adore Tom and Erica’s version but for me as that 90’s kid, it’s Dean and Teri! Their chemistry was beyond insane. Never felt like they were trying. Seeing the proposal scene, freaking memories. I remember the day it aired waiting to watch the big night lol.

I can still remember that scene were Lois revealed to Clark she knew he was Superman and that timing when he proposed(the revelation and arguments😅) Such a great Clark/Dean & Lois/Teri chemistry ❤️ Loved them in The New Adventures of Superman.
Who else thinks Clark did that think with the comb on purpose? Cause, I mean... If not, it could't be more hilarious than than getting shot with blanks and not realising it!
Lois and Clark. Teri Hatcher and Dean Cain. Nothing else needs to be said. For those who say Smallville makes them cry, that’s how I feel about Teri Hatcher and Dean Cain. As for the Smallville one, the reveal to Lana was much more moving to me which I saw a few weeks ago. That’s why they chemistry was and all the writer investment.
Awwww... this is so Wonderful... thank you for putting this together ...so emotional these are .. I love all that is Lois and Clark on here ...my favourite films and series ..
Christopher Reeves was still the best at how his personality changed from clumsy, doofus coward to man of steel. It's like his face structure even changed...
All these comments are about either Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder or Ton Welling and Erica Durance. Well i was born in the early 90s, so when i was a kid i was watching Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher. And the chemistry between these two is still with me to this day.
Of course, the greatest of all time when it comes to Lois discovering Clark's secret, has to go to Smallville's Tom Welling and Erica Durance. 'Smallville' just did an amazing job with capturing the essence of the Superman lore, even though the series entire 10 year run had a general rule: No flights, no tights...lol
Why did they re-write this? Lester needed to re-shoot a certain percentage to get his Director credit, not replace the well scripted scenes with others. This was a much more clever reveal than the one they ended up using.
For me, it was something my dad picked up a few months after the divorce. My brother and I went to visit him and he had the first three seasons on DVD for us to watch. It was nice to sit down and enjoy it with him.
I still think the Dinner version of Superman 2 kind of made Lois look kind of psychotic in the way she finds out Clark is Superman , jumping out the window and shooting him.
That was truly the best, and it is across all of the Lois Lanes as every once in awhile, they would think, and then let it slip away. But we all know glasses don't change that much. I mean, people don't suddenly not know us if we take our glasses off.

Made my jaw stick out more, and the double chin was barely noticeable, of course your back has to get used to it, bad posture sucks What I'm getting at is that superman does a bad posture in purpose, over sized clothes , and moves his head backwards to have a different chin, it is possible that he can be Clark Kent with nobody suspecting anything

Teri and Dean has an unbeatable chemistry even if they don't have the best dialogues
Agree, also the tension between them, wether when they were sneaky rival, separated or in dangerous situations made the relation the most realistic, IMHO.
I love this about Christopher Reeves at all time. This movie is my most favorite edition of all time of Superman.
There's no S in his last name. It's just CHRISTOPHER REEVE, not Reeves.
George Reeves. Christopher Reeve. See the difference?
Lois wanted Clark to trust her in Smallville. She knew him well enough to know that he’s been hiding his whole life, been an outcast. That someone knowing his secret could mean life or death for both him and them. So she didn’t tell him she knew because she wanted it to be his choice. And that’s why Smallville’s scenario is infinitely better.
That smile Erica gave Tom in Smallville was the cutest I thing have ever seen!
Tom Welling and Eric Durance was the best to me :) I Miss them so much!
@@MaskedMan66 exactly
It took me a while to get what bothered me the most about the Snyder movies, and it's that Clark Kent isn't in them at all, with or without the suit Henry cavill is always superman

It’s interesting because each interpretation of the Lois/Clark dynamic coveys three different perspectives of realising the truth. For instance in Margot Kidder’s portrayal of Lois she is so determined almost obsessed with exposing Clark’s identity just based on pure instinct alone. She risked her life in order to reveal the truth but in another scene she also learns from her mistakes and takes calculated risks (firing blanks) just to make sure.
This particular version of Lois is highly intelligent, perhaps even more so then Clark because she possesses this hyper awareness or heightened intuition. It’s impressive that she went to the most simplistic or drastic methods to expose Clark but it’s done with such intricate care. Like she knew Clark would trip up on the pink fake animal forcing him to fall directly into the fire burning his hands. That’s some Batman shit right there because Clark works so hard to keep his identity a secret, precariously maintaining a fixed appearance almost 24/7 (glasses, suit, hat etc) so much so that he forgets about potential traps in his environment. Traps that could potentially expose him.
“Always mind your surroundings.” Ray’s Al-Ghul - Batman Begins.
Terri Hatcher’s reaction to finding out Clark is Superman is a natural response to such revelations.
Imagine knowing someone for years trusting them with your feelings and insecurities only to find out that they are the same person that you lust after. In the scene where their arguing on the street, she demonstrates feelings of confusion, anger, almost a sense of betrayal, this is accurate. I felt like I could relate to her in that moment because your perception of reality, that paradigm is now shattered.
Clark tries to redeem himself by offering marriage proposals to which she stops him, insisting she needs time to think, time to adjust, it’s too much to take in too soon. This one scene coveys the predicament of the situation so well.
Finally Erica Durance and her reaction to Clark’s revelation that he is the blur is one of absolute joy and delightfulness. She’s ecstatic, over the moon, her one true wish came true. She was in love with the blur but also developed strong feelings for Clark, she had her suspicions that they are the same person but decided to pursue a romance with the blur because Clark wasn’t confident in himself as man to pursue Lois.
She wanted Clark to be Superman and she got just that. It’s like falling in love with someone you know, a friend but believing the feeling isn’t mutual due to the nature of the friendship however just at the very last minute they confess that it’s mutual, making all your dreams come true. In short his confession resulted in a happy ending for both, it’s what she truly wanted after all.

Good analyse
I wasn't born during reeve era and barely born during cain's superman show
So i watched them way later
Both did a good job
Reeve is on another tier
But cain relationship with lois is very entertaining both actors jad a great synergy
Let's not forget brandon Routh
His performance as superman was good
His lois was meh but the effects in the movie are very solid even for todays standards
An interpretation between the classic and a new one
I'm old enough to have seen every Superman between generations. They are all great, when I was young I watched Superman on repeat 😅 (the one with Christopher Reeve). I loved Lois & Clark but Smallville was above I think because I love watching this series again. And today I am ectatic with Superman and Lois which I find better than the others maybe because as you say the show is the most real and the most dramatic.
@@heroeus8173 Thanks, I agree with your thinking.
@@ptitgris66Yes, Smallville was special but Superman and Lois is cementing itself as one of the best for sure.

Nah the first Lois is wild 🤣 she was moving mad 😭 Man can keep his identity, I’m not throwing myself out a window or into a river for Superman 💀

Facts man she is wild af and doing too much 😂
Time for Clark to get out of that relationship, maybe he should see if Diana is no longer with that Steve Trevor guy
You mean Noel Neill?

What I like about the Superman II reveal is that it was completely by accident and you can tell Clark was super pissed that he played into his bumbling persona too much and made a rookie mistake like not watching where he was going
I love how Clark turns into Superman just by changing his posture.
On radio, he did it with his voice.
Smallville produced the best version of Lois Lane ever... One with humor and also emotions...
Also the best Lex.

Christopher Reeve was absolutely brilliant. His performance at distinguishing Clark from Superman is unrivalled.
It was test footage before he gained weight/muscle.
As others have said, this was test footage, and it was from Margot Kidder's audition, so it's likely that Christopher Reeve didn't yet work out every detail about his performance. Imagine how incredible this would have been if shot for the film, if the script had been revised, etc. EPIC.

i think, that Teri Hatchers Lois reaction is best, most genuine. You see that she is upset, mad and disappointed, and you see that Clark trying to apologize, you can parallel Lois' reaction with Watson's reaction from Sherlock with Cambarbetch. Most human reactions!

Thank you for including clips from the Richard Donner cut of Superman II. Lois pulling a gun on Clark for a better identity reveal.
Why did they re-write this? Lester needed to re-shoot a certain percentage to get his Director credit, not replace the well scripted scenes with others. This was a much more clever reveal than the one they ended up using.
