I cringe every time I see that safety bar on the inside of the QuickJacks. Please swap your QuickJacks around so the safety bars are on the outside and you don't have to reach between them to move the bar.
Love your videos! I’ve owned my quick jacks for a few years now. For saftey reasons, the jacks are to have the locking bars on the outside. So you have yours reversed. This is just so if you happen to reach your arm inside to unlock the bar and the jack for some reason fails.. you won’t get your arm injured.
The key color test is how does the fender look just before sunset? The flop is hard to match at that time of day. When I was in college, my dad painted a qtr on our '82 Escort that was a similar color. He must have painted it at least 5 times trying to get it right. Don't think he ever did get an exact match with the sunset test so he always made sure it was in the garage before the sun went down. 🤦♂️
I changed out a drivers side fender on a 2013 Sierra and you are right, it's a pain. I ordered the fender from LMC Truck and painted it, all together a tad over $400.
Projectile Live: Life is very full for me and I am indeed blessed to be able to help JR as a guest on his. Perhaps sometime in the future I might, but it’s not something that is feasible now. Cheers, friend!🍻😉👍🏼
Looking good. I think this is the first one I've watched where you didn't say - this'll be quick; this is an easy job; 5 minutes to get this done, etc.
I wish I lived closer so you could fix the yellow solenoid wire on my '07 hemi Jeep Grand Cherokee. I've taken it off and cleaned it, but it's acting up again. Loose spade connector. I'm lazy and don't have a garage. Your attention to detail is amazing.
What is the easiest fender to replace? A friend replaced the fender on his old Mazda truck in a few minutes. Said old Ford trucks were just as easy. But in the 1970s, Ford was notorious for having many different kinds and sizes of bolts holding everything together, making repair work a pain (if a distributor in a '70s Ford/Lincoln/etc. had 3 bolts connecting it to the engine or body, you could be sure they were all different sizes). For a Toyota Camry, just grab a 10mm and go at it, its like 5-8 10mm bolts and the fender's off. I had a 1999 Saturn SL and replacing the plastic fender (hit a suicidal freeway deer) reportedly only took a few minutes. The hardest? The old VW Karmann Ghia had no fenders (as opposed to the Beetle's easy bolt-on fenders), so any damage around the fender area meant repairing or replacing the body (minus the hoods and doors). 1971 VW Super Beetle - Front Fender Removal ua-cam.com/video/_TvJ5LdUw00/v-deo.html
Replaced a few front fenders, doors, deck lids, etc in my day. Quick way to make a slightly damaged car look nice again. Helps if you get lucky and find the right color. I always buy used myself as older cars that are a popular color tend to have some decent matches at u pullit. Newer cars are getting ridiculous in how difficult it is to deal with things like this.
I had to change out the left front fender, bumper cover, grille, headlight, windshield, airbags and seat belts on my son's 2007 Tahoe. I was shocked by all the crazy hidden bolts and fasteners.
A pet peeve of mine is those giant factory antennas i always change them out for much shorter ones. Cheap and looks better plus wont get damaged in a car wash.
The plier-style trim tool is best for those 2-piece trim clips. Their jaws slot into the molded portion of the clip base and are tapered to work the push-pin part upwards as you clamp down. Have you tried those?
Reminds me of my 06 accord. You have to take the bumper and fender completely off to replace the headlights. Its like 20 fasteners for each fender, 4 fasteners/18 body clips for the bumper, 10 more clips for weather guard, 4 clips/2 fasteners for each wheel well weather guard. Only 4 fasteners for each headlight. Holy cow, that's too much for a couple headlights.
i just figured you’d like to know since you said they are all rusted, i’ve got an ‘08 GMC with 65k miles and absolutely zero rust. in Ohio of all places!! not to brag but i do feel pretty cool when people say “i can’t believe how rust free that thing is”
I've changed out countless fenders, gm pickups and SUVs are the worst but now I've been at a chev dealer 7yrs as a bodytech. Hour tops for this make and model.
Harbor Freight also has a set of metal trim removers with screwdriver type handles. They are fantastically useful. Great for the clips but because of their shape are great at all sorts of things. Love mine.
I literally just ordered and got a clip remover today, lisle red handle one like you had in your drawer... this would have been better to get but we’ll see how well this one does
Wondering why the hell this thing was so big and when he took it off, i knew why: IT'S FRIGGIN STRUCTURAL!! It litterally connects the core support with the rest of the chassis. wow. No wonder it needed so many bolts and why stuff was bolted on IT!
Great video a-lot of great info! It would be nice to see a video on a driver door or passenger door replacement! Any recommendations i could not find a video at all for a 2011
Can you put a link to the fender flares and to the shop that painted them? I am in Wichita and have the same color truck I am going to do the same thing to. Thanks JonRoss. I appreciate your channel and your enthusiasm for fixing stuff.
Crazy idea: apart from selling t-shirts, you could make little pieces of the broken parts you take out of the car, the sign them and sell them... they could make a nice souvenir!!
JR's always got a positive attitude and hustle, and that's why he's cool in my book😎

After removing the very very last bolt; I expected the rest of the truck to cartoonishly fall apart leaving the fender still standing.

It's very hard to panel match. Thats why everyone does color blending onto neighboring panels
for this project he should have rattle canned and clear coated the fender- this isnt a show car and wont sell for a kings ransom
The only person that ever cared that much about an 82 escort. Much respect to your father.
That's because all paint colors have different VARIATIONS, even if it is the same color. NO way to tell if you have Dupont, SW, or PPG FACTORY PAINT.
Now I want one! Loved this series! Thanks for doing it right, even though it costed a bit more.
The music at 3:40 is like listening to every song in the 80s.

Gabe is awesome 🤩 great job there - some manufacturers (like Ford) weld the wings (fenders) on so a bolt on one definitely makes it possible Diy
