    My unit was given tickets to the last race there in 2004 and l had an amazing time. Great track but Nascar didn't do the track any favors by having a race there in February. Bring this place back to life and let it host a race in warm weather months and I bet it'll be a hit on the schedule.

    • @AcAdapterInc
      @AcAdapterInc  Рік тому +3

      I agree 100%. Bringing back the rock during the warm months would be a huge draw. But before that can happen this track needs allot of TLC. North Carolina has committed funds to refurbish the track and the drag strip. I just hope they give it what it needs. Thanks for watching

      Hey James - From your lips to God's ears. I agree not only would it be better than California, it would revive the old school feel Nascar could bring. It is going to take quite a bit of work, but at least NC has allocated funds to begin the process. I will go back in about 6 months to see how its progressing. Was just at Talladega. A TRUE bucket list item for me. However, the weather was not my friend that day. I did get a little usable stuff, so you should see that in the coming days. thx...

    With NASCAR not returning to Auto Club Speedway next year, and the future looking uncertain right now, for NASCAR in Southern California, this could be Rockingham's opportunity to make its triumphant return to NASCAR, or at least a part of me feels that way anyway. But here is something I might want to suggest to the track operators and NASCAR, if they were to make this happen.
    Don't schedule Rockingham at a time of year, when the weather is cold, I think that is the main reason why they had so much trouble filling the stands, when it closed in '04. I believe in my heart that people will come see a race at Rockingham, if you schedule it at a time of year, when the weather is warm.
    Here is something I think could be an idea. I think NASCAR has another year on its contract with the non points exhibition Busch Light Clash, at the Los Angeles Coliseum. Daytona 500 first race of the season as always.
    Here is my idea for what the West Coast swing should maybe look like. Phoenix race two of the season. Las Vegas race three of the season. Move Sonoma to the earlier portion of the season, and make it a part of the west coast swing, to fill the void left by Auto Club Speedway. COTA should be race five of the season swapping weekends with Atlanta, since it is out in the Midwest. You would have a true West Coast swing with Phoenix, Las Vegas, Sonoma, and Austin in consecutive weeks.
    After that you could have Atlanta, the Bristol Dirt Race, Richmond, Martinsville and Talladega in consecutive weeks, since they are all basically in the Southeastern United States, you could have a Southern swing, than from mid May to early June, you could have a Carolina swing, with the teams racing close to home for four straight weeks, with the Throwback Race at Darlington, the All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro, the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte on Memorial Day Weekend, and then since I already suggested moving Sonoma to the West Coast swing, I think Rockingham could take Sonoma's current spot in early June. I think all three National Touring Series should be at Rockingham, on the same weekend, just for the record.
    I think these would be great cost cutting measures for the sport, that could save teams a lot of money, with all the traveling they do back and forth across the country.

    • @AcAdapterInc
      @AcAdapterInc  Рік тому

      Well you may blame the weather, I think NASCAR just does a terrible job marketing these races. I've been to dozens of these marquee races where the stands were less than half full. What they need are some real fans in the marketing department. I am sure we could generate enuf excitement to fill these tracks. Thx....

      Nascar 'leadership' is just as bad as the old days. I attended Road America and have never seen a bigger crowd except at the Indy 500 or Daytona. Two years later they drop it for a Chicago street race. Now I grew up watching USAC stock cars at Milwaukee mile, so ovals are my love, but take a race with over 100,000 attendees off the schedule to to have another failure like the LA coliseum shows utter Woke stupidity. I'm afraid there's no hope for Nascar...

      @@Dan-jl1fk road America wasn't good for TV as far as cup series race. And I don't know what it was costing nascar to rent the track and promote but it's more than the city of Chicago is paying nascar. Xfinity series race at road America is not a nascar promoted event road America is the promoter

    • @Dan-jl1fk
      @Dan-jl1fk Рік тому

      @John Haas Nascar and it's never ending yellow flag policy isn't Road America's fault. And lack of Nascar control of the venue will also hold true at chicago. The poor attendance at the Coliseum is a foreshadowing of what can be expected for the street race. And the money has to come from somewhere after all. More bad choices IMO.

    I have been following this track's story since I was 11 years old. I genuinely thought the track was lost for good after the Truck series left.
    For awhile there, I was right. It was in terrible shape. People were constantly breaking into the facility and stealing things from it. The track had weeds growing out of the pavement and parts of the suites were literally falling off onto the grandstands. The turns 1 and 2 grandstands were caving in on themselves and the back stretch grandstands were ripped out of the track and taken to the dragstrip in Charlotte. Atlanta Motor Speedway even took the infield fence from Rockingham after a tornado hit the track.
    Thankfully the new owners are actually taking care of the facility now. Who knows? Maybe Rockingham will return to NASCAR now that we know Auto Club will be gone for at least 1 season, maybe 2 if things go wrong in the construction of the short track.

I am not sure if you've seen it, but about a week ago PBS did a short video on NC allocating money to refurb the track in hopes of getting it back on the schedule. I don't think they stated the amount given, but if NC puts in a share I am sure others will follow. This is such a great track, one that I always loved to watch. @tamezzodiac2862 Рік тому +1

      @@AcAdapterInc I know it needed to be repaved, but my point was I was wondering if they used the original pavement they used to pave it with because Rockingham used to always use really abrasive asphalt. It was like mixed with sand and ect. It needs to age nice. Unfortunately, nascar has had so many issued with repaves being too perfect and ect recently, and I hope that's not the case where because any hope for it will be lost if that's the case. I mean the track had to succeed and if it comes back and puts on a bad bottom feeder race it's not gonna last unfortunately. I hope it is that abrasive sand like asphalt and wears good.

    I think the constant messing with the formula is what killed NASCAR. They couldn't leave well enough alone in the 90's and 00's. They had to start resetting the points, changing the cars every year or two, constantly messing with the points system until they lost all credibility as a professional sanctioning body. How many of the tracks that NASCAR added in the 90's and 00's are still around? Chicago - closed. Fontana - closed. Kentucky - closed. But Wilkesboro? Coming back. Rockingham? Coming back. Darlington is selling out when they can't print enough tarps to cover enough seats at Texas to make it look full.
