  • Thank you very much for always riding with Choo-Choo Travel!
This time, we visited the newly opened "Train Park Hakusan," directly connected to the JR West Hokuriku Shinkansen Rolling Stock Base, which opened in March 2024 along with the Hokuriku Shinkansen extension to Tsuruga. Located in Kanazawa, one of Japan's popular tourist destinations, the official name is "Hakusan City High-Speed Railway Visitor Center." Entry is free for junior high school students and younger, making it a very generous train park.
Inside the museum, you can enjoy a tour of the Shinkansen maintenance facilities, which can't be seen at other railway museums. You can also watch Hokuriku Shinkansen trains such as the Kagayaki, Hakutaka, and Tsurugi pass by at high speed right next to the building. Additionally, you can experience a Shinkansen simulator, which even former Shinkansen drivers would be impressed by, with one 15-minute session per person by reservation.
Unfortunately, the museum does not have a restaurant or bento sales, and there are no eateries or convenience stores nearby. Therefore, I bought my lunch at Kanazawa Station and brought it with me. To get there, take a local train from Kanazawa Station towards Fukui for 15 minutes (270 yen) and get off at "Kaga-Kasama" Station. It's about a 20-minute walk from there, or a 5-minute shuttle bus ride, though the shuttle bus runs very infrequently, so it's important to check the schedule in advance. The museum is closed on Wednesdays.
There is a large W7 Shinkansen simulator inside the museum, and since reservations are required, it's best to make a reservation online in advance if you plan to visit on weekends or holidays when there are more visitors. The museum is new and spacious, with an athletic area for children, so everyone can have fun. We made this video to share this precious and enjoyable experience with you all.
We took our time to create this video, so if you find any mistakes, please let us know in the comments. We always try to prioritize children and avoid capturing faces as much as possible while filming. For those overseas, we highly recommend visiting Japan to experience this wonderful adventure.

Arigatougozaimasu for this very enjoyable museum visit. Shinkansen is a beautiful and luxurious marvel of Japanese technology. Your Gran Class seat was sugoi. I'm glad you had a good time with the simulators. I hope to visit Kanazawa one day and to experience riding on the Shinkansen. Tanoshimidesu! 👍🚅

@@Choo-ChooTravel It will be a very long time until I have my next chance to visit Japan. My schedules are tight 😭. However, Kanazawa is full of charm. The people here are very nice. Staying here is better than in big chaotic cities, to be honest.
However, a few weeks ago, I got a chance to visit Kyoto Railway Museum (on the day which Dr. Yellow were expected to run but didn't show up). It was very nice and I want to visit it again just for souvenirs 😂.
