When I started to work at the City of Denver in the 80s they had some of this trucks they used in the Park and Rec department and Street Maintenance department. They hard 3208 Cat engines. You have a great looking truck and I hope you enjoy it for a long time. Thanks for the video. 👍👍👍💯💯💯🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🔧🔧
YEARS AGO, I met a owner/operator who had a sweet gig. He had a contract with one of the big ship companies at the Port of Oakland where he would pickup empty sea going containers at the port terminal & deliver them to customers to fill in Stockton Calif, 70miles then deadhead back to the port. He would make several trips each day. He had a special use permit to pull an extra long flat bed trailer so he could fit 2 containers a 20ft+a 40ft - 60ft overall. He was granted the permit because he was hauling them empty. Sweet deal, low weight = good mpg + low wear & tear on his equipment. The Achilles heel of these trucks was the shift linkage. These were all shift transmissions. The linkage was a nightmare. It would go DOWN thru the floorboard, then RIGHT to the RH frame rail turn and go BACK along the frame rail to mid trans then LEFT to the middle of the trans then DOWN into the trans. There were U Joints at every turn. Even with all fresh new & lubed U joints when you grabbed the stick it felt like you was stirring a big pot of soup. When worn you missed a lot of gears. Those were the days... !
i have been driving various trucks out west here for over 20 years now and not one of those trucks ever said "not for hire" on it and not one time has anyone ever asked to hire my truck...when i first moved here i thought great people will be hiring me all the time
The way that engine was idling, I'd be afraid to guess at the fuel mileage. I drove one of these Ford's over the highway "once'" , it was empty, and I wouldn't want that experience again, anytime soon. These C-600's were mainly for local hauling and city deliveries, I guess. Good / interesting video, Thanks.
Reg Sparkes you herd him say it had a 454 Engine in it right . Deffinitally has a big cam and a turbo 400 transmission which has no over drive . I say it gets 7 or 8 miles a gallon . I drive a built 350 I get 12 to 14
Those things are like a gremlin. So ugly that they are good looking in a way. I've got a old AMC Gremlin Demon with the 340 in it. I rebuilt it when I got her and painted her Plum crazy Purple with Slime Lime Green racing stripes and old school factory rally rims. She gets a lot of looks. Most of them are like WTF is that but she's mine. And I have always liked the kinda odd vechiles. Got a old 71 AMC Javelin that's complete but not running in the spring when I can get to her she's coming in the shop for a frame off rebuild and restore to original. Silver with black stripes and highlighted under body. Im putting a little more metal flake in the paint than AMC did but im not going to tell anyone.
NJW1973 turbo 400 is stronger. But 4l80 you will get better mileage due to there being an over drive . Since that truck was all naturally aspirated wouldn’t he have to do a bunch of wiring for the 4l80 transmission to shift right ??
I drove trucks back in the 80's. One company I drove for in Virginia, I had a CL 9000. Loved that truck, her name was "Roxanne"
Nice truck! I think it's awesome that the owner still uses it. I hope to get mine back on the road, but she has a long journey.

Actually listen to the man when you're interviewing him he has multiple times you asked him the same question the year already giving you answers too

I love the old biasply off road tires . Awesome tread pattern
Visited this video again...put out more on this truck, would like to see it moving and such. Love the style!🥰 Porter Dude of Ohio!
Super cool truck and a nice owner!
Totally beautiful ! Thanks for sharing.

I wouldn't hire u either.
Amazing shifting gear!!!
Love the fact you put 454 in it Right on my friend!!!

It is not measured in miles per gallon, rather liters per minute.
Yes, it does sound that way,.I would agree with you on that.
Yes, no shortage of pulling power in that set up,....it's like having another gear in the transmission,...almost!

They actually ride well but you NEED to have a trailer hooked to it.
Love the rig, dislike the powerplant .. I'm looking at a 1978 Ford C700 currently, hopefully I can convince my wallet that I need it :) ..
460 Ford V8 would have been better or better than that these days a 6.7 Powerstroke.. keep it Ford.. #FordPerformance #FoMoCo
No idea why people love ruining good Ford's with junky gm engines... If you're gonna go that route, at least do that right. Detroit...
Cool. I worked for a guy that had 2 setup as flatbeds we used them to haul tobacco.
Duramax or Cummins Turbo Diesel and a Manual gearbox with some high performance brakes and diff. Ooooof! That thing would be wicked fun
Before I Cummins swapped mine it got 2.5-3 mpg empty with the original 389.
Should have found a Ford 534 SuperDuty gas engine for the truck!
I agree, but the 454 probably is easier to find parts for. My C900 has a 477 super duty.
4 miles to the gallon with that set up
I love that dude's shirt. And truck.
He must be into firearms and trucks.
Cool lookin trk !
Luv cab overs
Nice, I would've stuck a Cummins 5.9 in her nicely tweaked of course if I owned her.
I just did exactly that!
@@Turbo-wj9qc mpg?
I've got one with a 3208 cat in it this is a video of it
The first part of the video is dark .
But it gets better
I saw that thing leaving. Not sure how he didn't stall with that cam.
I Like Da Trucks!
I hope his grandkids return that truck to Ford power!
That a sunbeam tiger in background?
I think it's a pre 1967 MG Midget...
I could be wrong lol!
R32 GTR in the background
Nice
@1:18 it sounds like a siren, perhaps that is not a Ford engine in a Ford?
Ford didn't make a 454...
I think back in the 70s you could’ve got these with a 3208 cat diesel
Be WAY better with a FORD engine!!!
But cool truck...
Nice it probably originally had a 330 ft engine in it.
And you have a radical lil Ford cabover...454 and all !
Hate it when people put Chevy motors in fords this could be a cool truck with a 460 or 427
ohh yah" ill give the right of way. that face always got my attention in da younger days,

I referred those as to what I call a fat cat truck
That's not a stock 454 sounds cammed up
RV's of old had a pretty peppy cam
@@cabbyhubby yep....but like that..man...
That's what you do with old gas trucks
Damn gasoline engine
Fords are too have ford engines
Let some air outta the front tire so it'll ride better!!! just sayin
Cammed 454 with turbo 400. 7 or 8 miles a gallon all day
Blasphemy
fords should be powered by Ford. Chevy's are not always the best the cheapest, or the most powerful and they really don't belong in any Ford or Mopar
Another Ford with a Chevy engine :)
This truck NEEDS a 4L80, real bad.
NJW1973 turbo 400 is stronger. But 4l80 you will get better mileage due to there being an over drive . Since that truck was all naturally aspirated wouldn’t he have to do a bunch of wiring for the 4l80 transmission to shift right ??
Should have a 7.3
