    A video full of grace and dignity , if I may say so. No whining or moaning , but full of praise for those who helped you. After such a traumatic experience your humour shines through , an example to us all. Best wishes for your recovery .

    It's difficult to keep calm when there's blood dripping everywhere! I'm not surprised that you're exhausted. You lost a lot of blood (& then they want more... bloody cheek! LOL) It's a relief to know that you have someone in your life to help out when things go sideways. Good luck with the tests Richard. We'll all be thinking of you. 🤞😀🌞

    So glad that you are back, and mending. I wouldn't think that travel in a pressurised aircraft would be recommenced so soon after such an event. Interesting observation about aspirin. I discussed taking aspirin with a Doctor once, and he just said 'avoid', but I do know that others suggest it is a good idea. Great to see you looking well!

    • @RichardandPaul
      @RichardandPaul  4 роки тому +1

      You wouldn't think it was a good idea, but the specialist said there is no evidence that it will cause an issue. My instincts tell me the opposite! Aspirin is most definitely an effective blood thinner, but in my case the clarity from the different doctors simply wasn't there.

    Scary experience. I was prone to severe nose bleeds in high school. Doctor told me the last time I went in they would cauterise it. Think my nose heard and behaved since then. Not only is it scary, it is messy, worrying and uncomfortable too and it leaves you weak from blood loss. Get better soon and I hope your nose behaves for you from now on too. Missed the Sunday Chat this week but now I understand.

Had to giggle at the Arnie description - oh dear me, I could visualise that so well! But scary for you and for Paul too - very difficult for him to see you in distress! Fingers crossed it doesn't happen again and they find what started it off in the first place. xx

    Man that sounds like EPIC fun at the A@E and then on to inpatient treatment. Good that you had good care and being in the hospital is definitely not for sleeping! We've got a joke about that as we've both been in for various surgeries, or my partner with diabetic issues. I am glad that you got good care though and felt like your issue was resolved when discharged to home. I'd be panicking too if I felt like I couldn't breathe potentially! So glad you are staying home to recover and just take it easy and chill out your blood pressure as much as possible. Hoping by now the inflammation in the sinus cavity has gotten better and you can rest and just feel human again. Sending warm blankets and some old classic films to watch and better days ahead. Thanks for sharing your story. I got attached to you guys watching the Sunday chats and etc and hated to think of you and Paul both being ill and caregiver. Good on Paul for hanging in during the gorey bits. lol. I've had to excuse myself during a particularly gorey bit being done to my partner b/c I got woozy and had to go splash cool water on my face and calm myself a bit. lol That was ages ago, now I can mostly sit through some intense things and detach enough to be more supportive. Take care and if you do Sunday Chat , do it with gentleness and let Paul be the goofy loud guy and you just zen thru hiss Leprachaun games. ;)

    ps. if you have access to a pharmacy , a good help to heal bruises is arnica gel or cream. I have bad veins so always get a bajillion needle sticks before they find a vein and inevitably bruise all over the place. One phlebotomist said that they suggested using heat (after the fact) to help dissipate the bruise and help the displaced blood reabsorb. Maybe you just need a warm bath and of course time heals. As someone else said, a nasal saline rinse with distilled water willl help get the icky old blood out of the areas it's not needing to be. Holding off though might be wise as well or just using tepid saline not super warm to do a sinus rinse so as to prevent the healing tissue from breaking open again. 'sounds like the aspirin was the wrong advice for you though and you can just rest and let the professional deal with it soon. Don't stress it, the specialists usually are much faster and better at getting things examined and taken care of and as you're not bleeding, no more beastly tampons into the depths of your face. lol. I'm traumatized for you!

    Any urgent trip to the hospital is traumatic. When blood is involved that raises the stress level even higher. We take good health for granted and when something like this happens it’s a big reset button for gratitude and shakes our confidence a bit. I’m glad you are feeling better.

      Thanks Deirdre. It really makes you think how fragile we really are. You never know what is going to happen, even when you lead a relatively healthy life. We just have to live in the moment.

    Sorry to hear you've been unwell, Richard. Sounds like a frightening experience! Maybe keep some Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) on hand as a first aid measure. If you have access to fresh plant matter, you can bruise the leaves & apply. I normally dry leaves & blooms then grind to a powder & store it so I have it out of season as well. It's styptic action is very effective at stopping bleeding.

    • @RichardandPaul
      @RichardandPaul  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the tip, but I'm afraid it wouldn't have done any good...it was a posterior bleed right at the back of the nasal area... inaccessible...which is why pinching didn't do any good.

      I have an existing heart condition and take Beta Blockers everyday....i was told to take aspirin after an incident of Atrial Fibrillation and basically they forgot to tell me to stop taking it!

    • @gabriellakadar
      @gabriellakadar 4 роки тому +2

      @@RichardandPaul Was it the low dose aspirin or the 325 mg? People are individual in
      regards to sensitivity to ASA. Even though doctors recommend a standard type
      dose, as in 75 or 81 mg, that may or may not be adequate or may be too much.
      There are research papers published on dose and efficacy but that's it.
      Also any dose of ASA causes microbleeds in the stomach. People need to be
      careful. After 5 days off, all of your platelets have been replaced by new
      ones so the effect of ASA on your platelet aggregation is finished. We have
      a 20% daily turnover on new platelet formation.....
      I know it sounds ridiculous, but in a way it is better that you had a visible bleed
      as opposed to a slow leak in your stomach. That can really cause significant
      debilitation.
      Your story was both excruciating.... and hilarious. I'm sorry but I did laugh a few times.
      Did they know your cardiac history when they stuffed adrenaline up your nose?
      We don't even use it for haemostasis on gum tissue anymore. Too dangerous for
      heart patients.
