Thank bro, just picked up a 2002 Ranger as a project truck and I'd figured this is a good starting point. Also thinking of switching my hoses just for peace of mind.
It's a 3.0. The 4.0 says 5W-30 on the filler cap. It takes different plugs than the 3.0 and the gaps on the 4.0 should be .062 to .068. It will say right on the sticker you pointed out. Unless the engine has been swapped at some point...
What's the real cost of doing this job yourself on a 4.0 when you have a factory A/C? I'll tell you. $500 worth of cussing, 2 pints of blood and a nut. Even with the right extensions you got to do the right side through the wheel well.
thats definitely a 3.0 in the video from looking at pictures its not like my 4.0 the distributor is in the wrong spot and plastic manifold cover is smaller.
The 2010 4.0 Ranger is much harder than this one.On the right side I go through the fender well.To keep the spark plug wire in one piece I use a Thexton 334 on the middle plug and spark plug boot pliers in the shape of Speedwox 11 in ring nose hose grip pliers on the other two.I use u joint spark plug socket like Craftsman 43322.Today I also moved the transmission dipstick tube out of the way. I put the Thexton 334 on the middle boot then pry on the tool to get the boot off. I'm not strong enough to pull it off with my hand anymore.
thanks for the info. I am working on 2010 4.0 Ranger, and this video got me excited as to how easy it looked; however, the excitement turned into nightmare as soon i realized the video is misleading. @@ronwiggins73

lol..yeah sounds about right.
had a miss in cylinder 1 on the 4.0 ended up breaking the clip near the ac condenser instead of calmly unsnaping it

it is not clear to me, did you leave the gap at 40?
I believe so
What is the order of plug wires on the coil pack on a 2000 ford ranger with 3.0 engine
Fr man
sorry just saw this.
anyone heard of this motor needing two different types of plugs for each side, or Ford designing it to need platinum on one side?
They should all be the same plug
