- In this video we introduce you to our base van - a Fiat Ducato L2H2 - and explain how we chose it, what makes it perfect for our camper van conversion and talk you through some of the options it has that will help us with our conversion.
We hope you like our first video. This self-build van conversion was always intended to push us to do things we've never done before. By recording what we do, for friends, family and anyone who might find it useful, and appearing in front of the camera instead of behind it, this channel is another personal challenge!

WHO ARE WE?
We're Mark and Neil and this is Our Van Plan. We've always wanted a camper van and took the plunge in 2020 by ordering a brand new medium wheelbase (L2H2) Fiat Ducato. We are converting it ourselves into the van of our dreams with little previous experience. We're glad to have you along for the ride!

This is so interesting, most go straight into the build but it's really useful to get exact measurements (in your previous video), to see the different layouts and to hear your views and decision on age of van. We were thinking of getting a 2-3 year old Ducato but as you say, there's not much difference in price for new and we had no idea of all the options available which are so helpful for a conversion. So we are now decided to go for new and looking forward to seeing the rest of your build, thanks a lot!
Most of the reasons you said get me to your video. Ducato seems to have the best combination of height, width and a reasonable length. More of a square shape is another plus. Thanks for this, it was helpful.

Good Luck with Build we went the same route New Ducato with lots of factory extras... nearly finished been a enjoyable few months . When paneling a tip I was told was to cut Plyboard strips out of 12mm ply. Better than wooden batton as they flex with van contours. Will be following your build hope all goes the way you want... All the best..:o))
Thanks and have noted that tip about the ply wall battens. I was wondering about that. Scary working on a new van but it also helps the motivation to make it perfect!

Hi Guys following your series . Looks amazing so far. Are you tutting a shower/ toilet and do you also have a sketch of the finished look you want to achieve . Keep up the good work . Are you installing combi heater as well
Thanks Lee. No, we’re not having a shower inside. Have a toilet in part of the seat and will have a combi boiler so showers at the back.
Really looking forward to this series.... As our own van on order is almost identical... Q. You mentioned ordering the side glazing, as have we with the tint.... I had assumed that meant the tint would be applied to the rear door glass too but, by the looks of your Vid here it looks like I am wrong but, of course, the rear glass is only shown in your vid from inside to outside.... Do they have tint??? Also - I notice you had a rear view mirror which is not standard - did that come because of the factory bulkhead removal, the rear windows , you just happened to order one from the dealer, they felt so sorry for your six month wait so threw one in - or did you just go out and buy one....
Good to have you along Richard. So the rear windows are tinted too, exactly the same as the side. Looks very dark from the outside and easy to see through from the inside. The rear view mirror came with the van, didn’t ask for it and it wasn’t mentioned. But I assume because of bulkhead removal, as you say, and having the rear windows. Exciting you have a new one on order, hope it arrives soon! They’re cracking vans.
Hi, just found your channel as I'm thinking about a conversion. Seeing that you've gone for a new vehicle, how does converting it affect the warranty?
It shouldn’t affect the mechanical/engine side of things. I think bodywork wise, any area or panel that’s been cut/changed would be void. But to be honest took so long to convert it was out of warranty 😂

What sort of mpg do you get from your Ducato?
Not amazing. Haven’t really measured properly since finishing the conversion but I’d say around 30 max if I stay under 70.
Which company did you buy from? Most online websites won't allow me to customise.
