  • Back on the 78 Toyota Corolla project called Crusty. started on building the firewall using simple techniques with recycled metal. Also get to play with using the new bead roller I built

    Your electric bead roller worked really well for that large sheet. You would have had a really hard time doing that with the bead roller as it came. You'd need a couple of extra people to help you with it. You really put a lot of thought into modifying the bead roller.

    If you put an angle more than 90 degrees on the back of your bead roller guide fence it will tighten down to the table as you tighten the front, eliminating the need for additional clamps. Great videos I love the way you explain things.

    I wish I could have time to come up and work beside you! I have said it before , you need to start a school to bring the young ones along. It’s not all computer , they need to have an imagination and use their brains!

    The bead roller worked really well. The firewall is looking good. I think the bead roller is probably a real time-saver. Great video, Tony.

    Once again nice job, firewall are tricky, because of fit and eye appeal .. The toe board came out nice, especially picking up some extra clearance , two inches is a big gain in a small car. Thanks for sharing this .

    That’s an excellent point you made, about preventing moisture getting into the cabin. It’s something I’ve never thought of, but is soooo obvious once you pointed it out.

    Hey fitzee , I was looking at one of those in a junkyard a couple weeks ago .. It may have been a Northern car , was really rusty for my area . Seeing one about as rusty as yours started , seeing in person again really drove home just how much effort you put in that dang thing .

    It's great to see you at R&D yet again. Your teaching helps take the work out of the job and presents an avenue to pursue that involves, 'don't over think it' as a numbered part of the instructions. When you break it down, it's not so overwhelming. Nice to see you at it again.

    Hi Tony. Nice job on the firewall. The bead roller is a very specialized tool, but it does jobs that no other tool can do as well. Making those flanges looked super easy. Merry Christmas!

    When I built my gasser I drilled holes in the firewall then put plugs in them to get the bellhousing bolts out

    Hey fitzee, that looks amazing and it’s a perfect example for doing a new panel or a repair panel in pieces to get the fitment right. It’s a lot more work but you get a better fit a cleaner look and a nicer design patch to weld it. Also I just want to say merry Christmas and a happy new year to you and your family. Nice job, later
