  • Iron Mountain Iron Mine is in the town of Vulcan on the southern end of Michigan's upper peninsula. The main building has a large rock and gift shop. The mine has harvested over 21 million tons of ore.
We will outline the photo opportunities outside the building. We will give the stats of Big John, show his wheelbarrow tire, and take a look at Old Faceful.
Watch us gear up for the tour, and get highlights of the train and walking tour. See the train ride into the underground mine.
A big thank you to Ryan at the Iron Mountain Iron Mine! You are awesome!

Your tour guide needs a pay raise. His personality is top notch.

Thanks for bring back my childhood days. My parents took us to this mine back in the early 70's and I'm glad to see they still are giving tour's.

My parents took me here before I was old enough to go to school...there's a photo of me in my miner's hat at the entrance. I don't remember much of it beyond it being dark in there, and I was afraid of the dark. The guy guiding the tour wasn't even born then...wow. I'm glad I got to see it again. Much better this time!

My great grandfather was a copper miner over by Ironwood. His seven children all moved south as soon as they could.

This is a great video. They used to have a Silver mine tour in Park City Utah, but it shut down. I never got to go but have seen a video or two. It was a very wet mine and rain gear was required. It's probably flooded these days. I heard that I believe it was the Thatnes Silver mine that in the early days of the Ski resort actually took people up through the mountain on a mine train inside the mine, and you skied back down. That's a foggy memory. I'm getting old.

My grandfather worked at this mine until it closed in 1945. He was making 16 cents per hour back then.

@@RoadLessTraveledWI I just read your bio. I live by the SleepingBear Sandunes in Michigan. I love to explore the upper peninsula. Anytime you want to come over and check out the dunes. A lot of my friends camp in my backyard. You’re welcome to as well. I’ve had several UA-cam channels in my backyard. lol I belong to an over landing group based out of Wisconsin. We do a lot of traveling in the upper peninsula together. And I too like to eat and drink. 😃 lol cheers and safe travels to you guys

Thank you! We may take you up on that offer. We definitely want to make our way out that way. We wanted to focus on Wisconsin this year, but next summer maybe we could focus on the other side of the lake!
