i belive that this manga was created from a real life event know as "atlantic slave trade" where slaves were buyed and sent to the americas to work for the spanish and portugese since it was a new and unexplored continent. most of the slaves were around 18-50 (most of them were young) who have been Kidnap either being sold or one of the village is burned to the ground and the young people were kidnap and became slave. almost all of them were African most of them from the region what we called today as mali,mauritania,angola,congo and many other. and there are egyptians and libyans aswell. as jews that are fleeing from spanish presecution alongside muslims that stayed in north africa
Pretty sure this is based on the Italian/Spanish Slave Trade to the Muslim World after the failed Crusades.
As Islamist Caliphates loved White Slaves, they often buy them from Europe and not only that, they'd raid Europe itself to enslave Caucasians. Mostly Slavs. (Hence there name as they were Slaves before)
yeah no sh** this is inspired by real events since slave trading was a very big part of human history, probably the Atlantic slave trade since it's the most well-known. In reality though slave trading was in full swing in Africa and oher parts of the world, most notably in the Arab world, the overwhelming majority of slaves were bought from African warlords and not directly kidnapped, this was a business back then : African kings kidnapped people from rivals and sold them to Westerners who wanted labor to work in the fields (sugar) and in return they received Western weapons (muskets, cannons..) which gave them a huge advantage
