Superformance Ford GT40 Mk1 | LeMans Winning Ferrari Killer
Вставка
- Опубліковано 26 вер 2024
- The guys at Superformance have been shooting a lot with us recently and this is the first of their cars we've shot and driven. The Ford GT40 Mk1 which is the first of the beatings Ford gave Ferrari from 1966-1969 at LeMans. This version is running a 302 stroked and bored to a 347 making around 450 hp and only weighing 2400 lbs. The sounds this car makes is music...mechanical music. I still can't believe you can own one of these for around $200,000! Not bad considering what you get.
Sit back and enjoy the ride!

I’ve always thought, if I ever got a big name brand deal, I’m not getting a Lamborghini, I’m getting a GT40.
Woah didn't expect to see you in here lol
Man of taste 👌
The old Gulf Oil colour scheme is just beautiful.
Legend
Patrick Smythe, that Gulf Oil racing color scheme is what you think of when you hear Ford GT40 MK1.
Agree. I'm planning on doing a 389 peterbilt in the gulf colors one day.
@@arttafil6792 Exactly
This is my dream car for sure the most beautiful car ever made in my opinion
4:31 "I'm convinced power-steering ruined cars." Very very very accurate statement!!!
Wait until there are "self driving" cars, then you'll really have something to complain about.
My wife hates this paint livery, but I can't imagine anything more iconic. Especially on a beautiful GT40--another perfect Superformance continuation of an American classic.
Nobody does it like superformance. A lot try, but superformance is on another level.
One day I will order one, and the engine will be a 427
You and me both 👊
AutotopiaLA right on
FE?
For that you need to get the Mk2. According to Superformances site the Mk1 can take 289, 302 or 351C.
Me too my friend! Dream Believe Achieve.
looks so authentic, like how it's a mix between old and new technology. My neighbors would hate me if i owned one of those loud AF
They’re so perfectly loud!!
I love how the GT40 looks like the perfect mix between a Le Mans racer and an ordinary supercar. If you look at the other cars the GT40 raced, they look like a full blown race car.
I would be just fine hearing a neighbors 427 every morning as my alarm clock!
Screw the neighbors
In MY opinion, the most beautiful car ever built.
Its soooooo damn beautiful what a masterpiece
I agree all day with you here 👊
I saw and heard a bunch of GT40s racing at the Goodwood Revival in 2016, and immensely enjoyed seeing FordvFerrari. It's pleasing to know that these wonderful cars are still being built.
That color scheme is perfect!
Im a huge fan of the whole Lemans story with Ford winning and taking first second and third place . This is the part of me that loves these cars . Im a slot car collector and i actually have the 3 Gulf cars . Im sure it took a couple of days to get over that ...im speechless from the video !!! Thanks !!!!
I’m still blown away having driven this car. Just a work of art that sounds incredible!
@@AutotopiaLA 👍👍👍👍👍
You guys do such an amazing job of producing these! Thanks for a really fun day!!!
Thank you! We had such an incredible time shooting and driving. Just awesome!!
Saw all three at the concourse d'elegance at Road America/ Elkhart Lake Wisconsin 1980 where I lived.
I visit this vid from time to time for inspiration. Thanx Shawn!
Such a beautiful piece of history / art, this car never gets old. How cool was that letting you drive that thing, you can tell that dude loves sharing the experience. Another great video!
It was amazing getting to drive this car! Such incredible history and Doug is as passionate as anyone about cars and Motorsports. More to come from Doug and Superformance cars
Seriously glad I finally found your channel!
Wow, your channel is so good! Very surprised you dont have more subs. The editing is awesome, and the content is great! Keep it up!
Bruhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!! I’m lovin this car!!!! Once again you’ve nailed it!!! Loyal watcher, keep’em coming!!!!
Thank you! I’m completely in love with it. And with the banks they work with it’s not that out of reach for a lot of us
Speechless!!! I gotta win the lottery so I can get me one of those Mk1 cars!!
Incredible! Stunned at getting to drive this car
Ferrari had nothing on the GT40. The original Ferrari killer! If I had an extra 2-5 million bucks bumping around, the GT40 is the only car I’d spend it on. And I’m not even a Ford guy. Mine would be that powder blue/orange gulf paint scheme too. Beautiful! Most bad ass car ever made. Thanks for the video.
Agreed all the way here...glad you enjoyed the video
The gt40 is such a pretty car. Beautiful. The design will never get old.
Agreed. Never get old or dated
It didnt get old because the design was ahead of its time.
@@strider029 I don't think that is true because no other car after the gt40 looked like a gt40. I think the beautiful design is just timeless, was beautiful, is beautiful and if 50 year from now ford will decide to make a recreation of the gt40 design it will still be beautiful
Great video Shaun, you were certainly living the dream in this one.I like how it hasn't got all the bells and whistles of a modern car,a real drivers car, the way they should be.Cant wait for the encore👍
It was pure joy driving this car through the canyons. The sound. The raw manual feel of everything. Awesome!!
Worked on Porsche for some years (12??) back in the late 80's and 90's.
One thing I loved about them ( and I loved many, many things about them ) Was that they did not have power brakes or power steering.
When people asked me about it I would always say "you can run over a dime and tell if it's heads or tails".
We serviced a few race cars and they were, as he said, visceral. Loud, in your face, tight and mechanical.
Good times but my dream car is a GT40 with an FE big block 427 side oiler.
I'm 75 now and i can remember going to Silverstone in the 60s i was in my 20s with a friend who was a TV camera rigger and having a pit pass. We spent all day moving around the track and watching the racing i can remember the GT40's lapping all the other cars and flashing the Porsche's to move over so they could pass it was brilliant. i wanted so much to drive one my dad asked why i had a large picture of a car on my bedroom wall and i had to explain to him that this was no ordinary race car this was a FORD GT 40 nope still don't get it. oh well i guess there are just some things you cant explain they either get it or they don't i fell in love with the car on that day it was my 4 wheeled hero. I had a highly tuned 63 mk1 Cortina at the time [tuned by me] which i used to blatt around in [well at least it was a Ford] and i actually touched a GT40 once at a car show these cars are legend and deserve to be so. Watching this vid brought back all those wonderful memory's thank you guys OH by the way i have a 66 MK1 Ford Cortina tucked away in my garage I guess we just never grow up!
On The movie" Ford v Ferrari-Le Mans 66", we saw how this car was create to race against Ferrari cars on the legendary race of the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1966.A great movie of a true story for all race Cars lovers!
"But on our last lap we were clocked at 218 mph (350kmh) down the Mulsanne Straight now Mr Ferrari in all his years of racing has never seen anything move that fast."
Carroll Shelby.
Great video. Technical aspects of the car were covered and you really get the feel of being drivers from this well done vid. Good job!
Wow! I love what Superformance has done. Thanks for showing us this.
They are incredible! I’ve now driven 2 of their GT40’s, 1 427 Cobra and their Lingenfelter LT4 powered Grand Sport Corvette. Every one of those are amazing drives
@@AutotopiaLA Which is better? The GT or the Cobra?
This is the number one car ever. It has a motor with muscles, so a muscle car! Well I know what the concept of muscle car stands for but what the hell watch the video and enjoy instead. For me, this is the ultimate car EVERYTHING else comes after. If I had the money to buy a Koeningsegg I would still buy a GT40 !!! Although I only live 50 miles from the Koeningsegg factory
Only 50 miles from Koenigsegg!! That’s cool. But I’m all GT40 too 👊
That was an experience! Speechless, for sure. What a sound!
That sound is still ringing in my ears as pure perfection
There are good cars, there are great cars, there are amazing cars. This car.... THIS is sublime.
My all time #1 dream car right there
I’m with you!
This is my "it" car! It just doesn't get any better. Its such an amazing car with just the right upgrades to make it an every day driver and with an amazing heritage! Its ALL American!
absolutely beautiful one of my all time favorite cars apart from my mk3Triumph gt6 ,derived from racing spitfires at Le Mans ,so envious of your drive they sound like nothing else on earth ,thanks for a great film
THANK YOU FOR THE RIDE I WANT THAT ONE
I am a 60`s Ferrari race car nut... However in my fantasy garage the first car in there will be the Mk1 GT40... Utterly wonderful.. You lucky luck man. And thanks to Superformance it could be a reality.
You lucky man, getting to drive this! Awesome!
Still can’t believe it!! So lucky brotha!!
Bro that car that sound is just sick
The sound is incredible!
Thanks, such a beautiful build.
They do an incredible job recreating this legend
@@AutotopiaLA I watched your review of the Cobra Daytona (a personal fav since when I was a kid in the 60's) and noted your mention of your vid on the GT40. I love both these cars. I really enjoyed your time with Superformance!
When you mentioned Ferrari getting Bitchslapped by Ford, I thought of the DVD I have and I'm getting it out again and watching it. I love that video. Thanks, Shaun, for sharing this video, I still have dreams of owning one and I'm 72 years old.
Beautiful shots guys! Thanks for having us!
Love what y'all do.
Hey Superformance what is the difference in handling between the mk1, mk2 and mk1 widebody? Which one can handle better a big powerful engine ?
@@luisdelaroca6314 No real difference in handling between the 3. A little more rear grip with the Extra Widebody MKI with the 3" wider wheels in the back. The MKII has more room in the engine bay to accommodate the big block engine and extra scoops on the rear clam shell to keep it cool.
DMD Productions I’m having a hard time choosing my favorite between the widebody and the extra cooling and scoops of the mk2
Thank you so much for spending time with us and allowing me to drive! Can’t wait to shoot more of your creations
My 2 favorite car guys, Shawn and Doug, Doug and Shawn. Autotopia LA and Supreformance.
Wow, I had the feeling of love at first sight with the car. 😍😍🏎👊🙏 My goal is to own a GT40 MK!!
I want the extra wide Mk1 someday. So good
They sound and look gorgeous.
Another great episode and perfect subject to review!! 💯👊💯
Thanks and totally agree
Heyyy you guys actually got a hold of those 2 cars, cant wait to see how they drive got damn
They are amazing to drive. I really prefer the Gulf Mk1 and would love to drive one that has a 427 like the original Ferrari killer
Thanks Doug. I’m no longer going to refer my GT40 as a “continuation car”. Great video!
I learned so much with Doug. His knowledge and passion is awesome! And soon I have to have one of these. Just incredible cars!
AutotopiaLA - Yep, I highly recommend it. As you noted, it’s not your average daily driver, although I use it as such, but it’s just a blast to drive 👍🏻 I had a 560hp Roush small block 427 ci 8-stack fuel injected engine installed in mine. Great video!
@@CL600Sport Are you on Orange County? I smoked a GT40 a few months back in my LSX C-10.
CenCoast_7.3 - No, that wasn’t me. There are a few GT40s in OC since Superformance is headquartered in Irvine. What is a LSX C-10?
CL600Sport Chevy C-10 with an LSX engine in it.
OH MY GOSH!!!!! IS THAT IIT FOR THE GT40 #6 CAR???? THAT WAS WAY TOO SHORT. YOU HAVE TO DO ANOTHER VIDEO OF THIS CAR!!!🚐🚑🚒🚓🚔🚕🚖🚗🚘🚙🛻🚚🚛🚜
I need one of these in my future fleet
Forget a GT500 or a Hellcat/Demon. This is timeless!
This is a raw old school motor too
After this everything else in the warehouse went up for sale. Ford vs. Ferrari Forever!!!
I had a SuperFormance Cobra.I would love to get a GT40 MK1 someday! SuperFormance cars are simply awesome
I want both. They really do an incredible job at Superformance!
@@AutotopiaLA My next will be a SuperFormance Daytona. Just wish it was going to be tomorrow!
The originals were built just a few miles from where I lived as a teenager. I saw one identical to this up close and personal at the local Lucas agents, and another tooling down the high street one Saturday morning! Took my girlfriend to Le Mans on a coach to watch them but just missed the winning years :( Great times nevertheless! Thanks for the video, to buy a new one today is the stuff of dreams.
I’m gonna have to talk to this guy someday, love classic cars over modern any day, this and the Shelby cobra 😍..gonna have to see if he can build a 427 cobra for a disabled guy needing adaptive driving control and by law power steering
We've done it before and can definitely be done.
@@supercarsandsuperfoods5779 good to know 😁will definitely be contacting when I finally get the money together
The original GT40 1969 Le Mans winning car was right-hand drive!!!!
They all were right hand drive. You can order them right or left drive depending on your preference
I will have one of these when I start dreaming in my sleep
I’m saving my quarters and pennies
gary nordby you will own one in real life someday.
If you believe you can have one, I TOO believe you can have one! Dream big and don't let negativity creep in! 🚀
GT40 The icon!!! Just like that: Blue with GULF orange stripes ❤️🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸❤️
Absolutely!
Unless you're floating valves, you not really driving a GT 40.
Props to Superformance for 80% interchangeable with original.
So gorgeous. One of my chidhood dream cars but now even better. My only change to this would be a Roush 427 (small block). But now I gotta see the next episode!
Same for me on the motor 👊
Got to say, ford gt is one of my favorite cars because of the power, and i like it because it used to be a race car against ferreri, renalt and other cars. I think they made this car because ferrari made fun of their older cars before ford gt was made and ford just said just wait until we make a car that can beat your ferrari. Just one of the best cars that i should have.
It is one of my favorite cars ever and the legendary battle is the greatest in motorsports
Mk1, Gulf..... my favorite car ever
We appreciate you! The access you have to this history and getting a chance to re-record it and tell the back story. All while leaving out the dick measuring contest other old school channels do. Thanks and I hope this keeps going for a while. ✊🏼
I love those colors
Perfection
Great coverage on a great car!
Thank you. Such a joy getting to drive this one. Wow!!
Doesn’t get much better than that!! 🤤
Agreed. The sound alone makes it worth it all
The MkI is the best looking version with this paint scheme of the gt40s.
If I had 200k, this would be my buy !
I’m with you all day on this one!
Great video, truly enjoyable!
Thank you. Trust me, it was such a fun shoot driving this badass
Keep all this cool stuff coming. 👍👍👍👍👍
Lots more to come we promise 👊
My personal fav color paint scheme of all time
Awesome video... Love Superformance!
Thank you and I completely agree. Superformance is killing it with their cars!
As much as I like the GT 40, I really love the Brock built Daytonas! Sure there's only maybe 5 originally built back in um 64 i think, but these are sweet too. Wow,what a great idea for a company! Would they consider making a Daytona model in the future too? Having the shifter on the left in right hand drives doesn't take long atall to get acclimated to,granted it is a tad funky initially, but after 10 minutes driving,it becomes 2nd nature,in my experience. Thanks again Shaun & guys. ▪☆☆☆¤
6 originally built and I’m so glad Superformance has created these tributes. The drive is just incredible 👊
Seriously awesome!
Yeah, still blown away from driving this beauty and legend
I have to have one of these in my life... I just have to have one.
Same for me! Must have
This car may actually topple the F40 as being my ultimate dream car. Both have V8s and are raw, pure driving machines, but one costs about a million dollars more.
I think it'd be really cool if someone out there had this same idea for all the classic Ferraris that people love, but I imagine that Tipo engines will be a lot harder to come by.
A real one is close to undriveable based on value so yeah, I’d take this one all day and pound on it!
It is beautiful i am really waiting for the second car a bit of a car. In honesty most companies that don't have any modern car assists its usually because they can't afford to put any in. But i will give them the benefit of the doubt
Agreed that it would add cost to the car to add it modern electronics, however we choose not to add these to keep the experience as close to the original car as possible. We have done some of our cars for overseas customers with things like traction control, ABS, etc.
I hear you but personally, I think it would ruin the driving experience of these wonderful cars Allen
Ask Doug if they can do a package deal on a mkii and a cobra or a daytona 🤣 After we build our cabin I'll be in the market for my gt40 but I love the cobra/daytona, as well! Let's go crypto!
(You probably don't get discounts when you buy a couple hundred thousand $$ in cars...)
It’s always worth the ask...they might work with you
@@AutotopiaLA We took BIG swings with our investments and they're doing great! However, before I start shopping for expensive cars, we need to build up our land and help loved ones who aren't as fortunate... a sick car (even a gt40!) would be bittersweet knowing we didn't use that money to improve the lives of others 🚀
I plan on contacting them within the next 3 years! I'll say you guys sent me!
@@joegee1699 awesome!
I will make you a great deal! LOL!
Absolutely gorgeous. Wow...... By the way the part about his wife being a sleep and people being freaked out was funny!
Hey Sean Tom from New Jersey love your show bro been following you more and more in the past couple of months awesome
I need one!!!! Until then, I'll be playing Forza. Such a beautiful machine.
I would love to slap the 447 Windsor hellanor motor that Nelson racing motors made in one . 650hp N/A fast high reving beast!!!
wow, jealous as. They are truly beautiful cars.
Wow. That was amazing.
Such an incredible car! That sound...awesome!!
I would say that this is the best looking American car ever produced.
I wouldn’t argue that in the slightest
Certainley one of the best cars produced , but it was british really
@@jase6370 its Ford stop whining 🤣
@@USandGlobal No, he's right. The GT40 was more British than American. It was based on the Lola Mk6 and mostly engineered by Ford of Britain. By bar the most American thing about the car was the engine. You're also right, though. It is a Ford.
Excellent guys! (Jay from South OC Cars and Coffee)
Hi Jay!! Thanks. You guys probably see these regularly down there. Amazing cars!
Thank you Jay!!! (Doug from Superformance/Hillbank)
They are both beautiful!👏👍💪
Agreed as is everything these guys do
Projet made by Lotus execution by Lola then Shelby :it must be good!
Really good
I’ve been debating for a while, but that’s it. I’m ordering mine on Monday. Woohoo!!!!
I’ve been a Ford guy since the late 1970s. I hope super formance never goes out of business and continues to make these cars. My pet peeve was at the Daytona, the Shelby cobra 427 and the GT 40 were very limited production cars and expensive. They’re still not cheap but at least some people can buy them.
With the Daytona there were only 6 made so good luck to anyone trying to buy one of those...I love what Superformance does to give us regular guys a shot at owning a great replica
Yes , great
I thought it would be much more expensive of a car...they paid respect to a great piece of history
I did too. They’re actually priced incredibly well considering what you get
Awesome. Only change id chose is FI.
Absolutely cool vdo Thank Man
Nice car, and I saw the movie too. Thanks
Gotta love the movie and yeah, these are so good
i really want one, dream machine.... one of men's greatest creation
this would be in my dream car garage for sure, no decals though, and blue
Same for me except red or black
Stunning. Gorgeous
And a total beast!
While I love the Mark IV more than any of them, if you don’t produce those by the time I secure the resources, looks like a Mark I or Mark II in my future: right hand drive with shifter on the sill of course😀
Gotta have a right hand drive right hand shift and for me it would be the MarkII
Awesome videos brother!
Thank you 👊
