I re-twist my daughter's locs with pure aloe vera gel mixed with pure hemp oil. When you mix the two together, it turns into a semi-opaque white cream & leaves no residue.
I actually have to thank you for running your fingers through your hair so many times. Since I got my locs, I feel like I haven't been able to KEEP MY HANDS OUT OF MY OWN HAIR!!! Like...here I go again, playing with it. Especially since I'm a year and a half loc'd! Thank you!!! Now I know that I'm not alone. LOL!
You inspired me to twist lock my hair! I finished it today; I'm a little nervous but excited. I have watched many videos, read 2 books and spoken with a loctician. I have been searching for the look I wanted. I really like your look and I hope mine will look half as good. Thanks for the videos; your locs are gorgeous.
Girl every time i see your locs i want thicker locks. Then I go out to the mall and get some many compliments on my locs. Your locs are everything and so beautiful. They looks so healthy. Thanks so much for sharing all of your tips on your channel.
I just recently interlocked my locs for the first time during my journey (2.5 yrs loc’d) and it has made a world of difference. I workout often so my retwists wouldn’t last and I need to wash my hair more often. It holds and there’s less maintenance, it works well for me. Good luck finding something that works for you.
That what I’ve been doing.. but sometimes I want that twist look which only last me maybe 2 days 😅.. sometimes even after interlocking it will also be a tad frizzy too. But I’m bad at remembering my bonnet
Heck! Your locs are the look I’m going for😍😍😍! So beautiful 🌹! My retwists don’t last that long either, I only use oil and water, but I kinda prefer it bigger anyway. No advice, just wanted to say thanks for sharing ❤️!
My 1st set I used the Taliah Waajid tight hold. If you use too much it will absolutely flake. Maybe try a little less? Are you showering with a shower cap? Sleeping with a bonnet or scarf? I did combine during the time I had my 1st set. Over the 12 years I had them, I went from 175 to 50 locs! I interlocked at the root and let it be. So I had lots of double headed locs and would eventually cut off the smaller loc after they grew out. Worked for me. This set I started with 67 locs and have combined down to 53. I have crocheted these together (this set is 20 months old). If these had been longer, I would've just latched at the root and let it be. Your crown is gorgeous regardless, but you're entitled to wanting a look that you want so good luck!
Your locs are gold and so is your spirit! Step 1: Try oiling your scalp with your favorite oil after your wash (this will help seal in the moisture, give extra shine to your locs while keeping the scalp healthy and provide lubrication/great slip for the next step) Step 2: Apply a dab of all natural flax seed gel (optional, provides smoother finish, tighter/ long lasting hold) to the root of each loc. Step 3: Begin two strand twisting only the root of each loc before reaching the beginning of the complete matted area of the loc then STOP! Step 4: Lightly palm roll ONCE between fresh two stand twist root and beginning of matted area on loc. Then hold in place with a clip. This will form a bud. This may seem time consuming but because your roots are two strand twisted, they will remain in place much longer. Usually lasts 6 weeks to 2 1/2 months depending on how frequently you wash your hair. During this timespan you’ll notice your roots beginning to expand and lose its two strand pattern. Reminiscent of the baby loc stage. You want to make sure you give your roots enough time to grow out, expand and compact because when it’s time to retwist your locs, you’ll have enough new growth at the roots to two stand twist and loc in place. This technique drastically reduces the number of retwists per year and guarantees long lasting results unlike the traditional retwist method. I know I wrote a book lol, but I truly enjoy your channel. It keeps me inspired and motivated to continue my journey. So since you extended the invitation to share what works for us, I jumped at the opportunity to help in any way possible. Hope this breakdown helps and works well for you! Continue to stay encouraged sis! God bless!🙏🏾❤️❤️
Aloe vera gel worked so well that i actually stopped using it. I retwist and instantly want a frizzy look so I'll spray my hair like crazy, but when i used the aloe vera gel it was so clean and scalpy and fresh , and thats just not my thing!! It's easy to find and cheap, not sure of the UK equivalent but i get it at Walmart for maybe $2
Nobody talks about the flakes!! Thanks! I also have psoriasis so I literally thought it was just me until a girl at work mentioned it a few days ago. Learned brushing with a soft bristle brush helps rid the build up .
I have the same problem. I have never used Gels too much build up & flakes as you rightly said. I started using raw Shea butter mixed with boabab oil any oil is fine really but more oil than Shea just enough to hold the loc. My retwist has being lasting for around 2 weeks as opposed to 4/5 days. Love your locs, I have learnt so much from you on locs and look forward to making it to 2 years in the future.
I have tried the Murray’s Loc Lock Gel and it worked for me for almost 2 weeks. It what I’ve also done was tie my hair down and it lasted. The twists went away bc I washed my hair again (I work out and sweat a lot in my head). However, cooler seasons I go longer without washing. 🤗
I used to JML loc gel for YEARS(6 years) and always felt like my retwist wouldn’t last longer than a few days. And it made the top of my head ITCH. This is my second journey (1yr, 2mos) and I’ve used a combo of flaxseed, aloe, and chia seed gel mixed with a few oils and it’s LIT. No itch, retwists last about 10-15 days and hardly any build up if any at all
Have you ever tired Interlocking? I have my hair palmed rolled but i interlock it every two times. So i will palm roll, palm roll, interlock, palm rolland so on. They that and i bet it will make a huge difference.
flax seed with aloe and a light oil blend should help. My twists don't last but I get my hair wet too often, I only twist with oil/water. I gave up and decided to interlock. When semi-free forming, I lost more hair. My hair grows outside of the loc's at the top of my head. I also combined several loc's, my methods are too weird. I consider my locs...boho hippie locs! Do be mindful of the front loc's, the weight and products will thin them to the point of breaking off (if their showing signs of thinning). Oh, and we have almost the same loc age.
Showering with a shower cap and doing styles makes the retwists last longer for me, even when the style is undone. Like a braid-out or a twist-out. I use coconut oil and water for my retwists.
I retwist with water and it lasts til I wash again. The trick is to retwist, sit under a dryer for 20-30 min on low heat ( I use this fabric like hood that attaches to a blow dryer... It may be by curlformers, it's really cheap and can fit in a pouch). After retwisting, I train the retwist to stay by wrapping my hair with a durag/scarf every morning while I get ready for the day. Before using a scarf, my retwist didn't last either, but trust me the scarf helps!! Try just water & a scarf on your next retwist and see how it goes!
Gah! Your locs are gorgeous. I can't imagine locs your size just falling off of your head. I have starter locs and my stylist used the Taliyah Waajid stuff on me. Not impressed with the buildup already. Have you tried aloe vera or flaxseed gel? Those will be my go-to when I start retwisting myself.
I love that you me tuoned semi free form. I thought I made that up 😅.. but my parts are not pristine and kind of all over the place. I only re-do mine every four monthish. About 2 - 3 times a year.. although I play with my front ones will twist them a little to go to work or something
Try making flaxseed gel...you can make it... it’s super healthy, no build-up, and cheap. @loc crush have a great recipe for flaxseed gel. Also consider going back and forth b/w interlocking and palm rolling for a longer lasting method.
I retwist with rosewater or just plain tap water and my retwists last at least 2 weeks. I have type 4a/4b hair. Tip 1: Don't over saturate your roots when moisturizing. Tip 2: Two strand twist your (DAMP) hair as a style for the first couple weeks. Then, untwist them and you'll have a beautiful twist-out which will last probably until you wash your hair...I'm a Medical Assistant and have never had a complaint about my locs and mine aren't always freshly retwisted.
I’ve also been trying to find a good hold for my retwist. I was using spray n lock you can get it on the actual website. It works well but its a little sticky and I’ve seen a little bit of build up so I stopped using the product. Dr locs has a good line but the locking spray didn’t work for me. I’ve been using joie my gel it works decently but I kind of stopped shopping around for something else. I guess technically I semi free form. I usually retwist around the 12th week mark but in some areas my hair grows away from the loc. Thankfully at my job I haven’t had any issues.
I use a mixture of rose water and vitamin e oil in a spray bottle and I oil my scalp with castor oil. I use that to retwist my hair. It comes out cleaner to me. It seems like products make your hair frizzy and leaves a residue of buildup.
Sister Soko!jealous down my sister ,your locs are lucious!!there is nothing to moan about with your locs, the front part of your hair will always unravel unless you want to invite flakes & build up in your hair, do ACV rinses at least once a month, better leave your locs as they are, because you noticed a weak spot, bigger size in that area might cause a bit of a strain. Am happy I found the kind of locs I like.
I use fruit of the earth aloe vera gel together with diamond luster super hold spritz gel. The gel is a spray. Stay in place for about 2 weeks before it starts miss behaving. I work out also, so I guess that makes it last for about 2 weeks cause of sweat.
I use the same tight hold gel! I don’t have build up, I don’t get flakes. I wrap my hair every night when I sleep and will wrap it when I am working out. I can keep the fresh look for 2 weeks and it starts to fade in week 3. I don’t wash as frequently as advised by my former loctician (once a month) and I am 2 yrs 10 months in. Perhaps the retwist doesn’t last as long because if you wash it every two weeks it isn’t trained to stay twisted for long. I work in a corporate environment so I wear it in a bun or ponytail at work but out in other settings and my maintenance schedule works fine for that environment! Good luck! I too have thicker locs so I appreciate your journey!
I use Tight hold as well and love it. I noticed when I have Damian Walter do my hair my re-twist last at least two weeks. And when I do them myself it only lasts about a week. And I use the same products that he uses so it’s probably just our technique I’m guessing.

I use Tight Hold too but I have never had build up. I think you should not use both products at once. After washing I usually put my hair in a style for a week after the retwist... Then it lasts atleast 2-3 weeks. I have that same struggle loc. The solution is to actually gather all the surrounding hair when you retwist. If you don't retwist it ,the hair will grow away from the loc and it will fall off (Gasp) I hope I have helped
Locks are gorgeous!! I think the problems you're experiencing are 2 fold. The flakes are usually caused by product. You may want to try flaxseed oil for retwist. Also, the reason the "freshlook" only last a week is due to over washing and retwisting! Retwist should only be done every 2-3 months. Washing only once a month.
So you recorded this before your sister counted them on camera :) They're gorgeous with all the new growth, but I'd want the fresh look for a while, too.
What about interlocing? Do you have a video discussing your opinion on that? I'm from the US and my stylist uses" joie mygel", that can be found on amazon I'll find it on IG and send to you want it looks like. I work out and for a person that had cradle cap as a baby and thick terrible dandruff and nothing but flakes to nothing now that product works for me (also I think having locs definitely helped my dandruff completely).
I’m at 12 years now and I’ve combined quite a few. The roots combined super quickly but the rest of the loc is still combining. I’ve seen quite a few people use a crotchet hook/needle thing and I’ve tried it too but I feel like I’m just interrupting the natural ‘process’. And I’ve been semi free-forming for most of this year mostly because I got sick of retwisting my hair only for it to last about a day lol. The first thing I can say is know your hair. Does your new growth grow into your actual loc or around it? Because all my locs at the back of my head, the new growth grows into the locs and they’re flourishing whereas at the front 🙄it does anything but that. And I kept wrapping the new growth around the loc hoping it’ll do it’s magic and join and I feel as though it’s just thinning the roots so I’ve just decided to grow some more locs from the new growth😊 And I usually retwist every 3-4 months but I’m thinking of going back to regular maintenance anyway. (PS sorry for the whole essay 😂)
Whoever gave this video a thumbs down MUST be jealous! Your locs are absolutely beautiful!!
@Mrs. Mansa Musa what's wrong w her personality?🤔
I re-twist my daughter's locs with pure aloe vera gel mixed with pure hemp oil. When you mix the two together, it turns into a semi-opaque white cream & leaves no residue.
1908prettylawyer for real ??
OKAY to the full length music video of hair porn at the beginning!!! 👏🏾👍🏾
Am drooling over your locs....sooooo yummy.
LOL!
OMG! I never experienced this with my loose natural hair but with my locs I’m always doing it🤦🏿♀️😂😂!
Don’t worry about “thin” locs. If sister locks can grow and thrive you have nothing to worry about.
You inspired me to twist lock my hair! I finished it today; I'm a little nervous but excited. I have watched many videos, read 2 books and spoken with a loctician. Wowww! Your locs has grown so much!! I love how long it's getting so beautiful!

For a style/fresh look to last longer you can two strand twist right after retwist and then style it. you may already know this♥️
Heck! Your locs are the look I’m going for😍😍😍! So beautiful 🌹! My retwists don’t last that long either, I only use oil and water, but I kinda prefer it bigger anyway. No advice, just wanted to say thanks for sharing ❤️!
I'm so happy for all your progress. Your locs are and always have been very stunning!
Maybe you should try interlocking but your hair is beautiful this way, twisted or not 😊
Total loc ENVY!!!💗
I have a lot of layers as well. Can't wait for those shorter locs to catch up as well. Your hair look amazing and that length is kick'n!
My 1st set I used the Taliah Waajid tight hold. If you use too much it will absolutely flake. Maybe try a little less? Are you showering with a shower cap? Sleeping with a bonnet or scarf?

Your hair is the best!
I could deal with your new growth, my new growth grows out of the loc and it’s ALWAYS very frizzy so annoying. I love you texture
My new growth does the same so many new baby locs all over my head

Exactly how I want mine. I hate the fresh look it's toooo flat.

use a crochet tool to interlock the ones that aren't holding the retwist
Omg. I have the same issue. So glad someone made a video about this topic.

Sooo..stop retwisting...and stop using products...entirely...you have the fresh look...and natural look..beautiful!!
I literally take brown thread and sew my new growth every 8 weeks. I want the manicured fresh retwist. And I get good results😚😚
I have a few Locs that seem thin when I retwist. They seem to thrive better when I leave them alone.
Thanks for the video update. My hair never stays retwisted either.....it may last a few days. Loving your journey!!
Thanks for supporting! 🙌🏾
I use fruit of the earth aloe vera gel together with diamond luster super hold spritz gel. The gel is a spray. Stay in place for about 2 weeks before it starts miss behaving. I work out also, so I guess that makes it last for about 2 weeks cause of sweat.

Joie My Gel Extra Hold, African Formula Super Growth Gel Extra Hold. A little of either one goes a long way. Easy to shampoo out.
Thank you! Just need to figure out where to find it in the UK! x
What mic are you recording with
I’m using the inbuilt mic on the Canon G7X camera x
I use Tight hold as well and love it. I noticed when I have Damian Walter do my hair my re-twist last at least two weeks. And when I do them myself it only lasts about a week. And I use the same products that he uses so it’s probably just our technique I’m guessing.
EbbyLocs I’ve noticed the same thing. When my mum retwists my hair it lasts a minor two weeks but when I do it it doesn’t even stretch a week 💀
Try tropical roots locking gel. It’s light and I don’t have build up from it
Try aloe Vera plant or gel. But that happens to most of use. It’s 👌 ok.
Love it girl. ☺️
Beautiful!!!
Thank you! 💕
I'm in love with the thickness and fullness. Do you ever do a twist out or braidouts in between retwists? When I had my first set of locs, my retwists didn't last either but with this set, I get the front interlocked as the front is a softer texture and is taking a little longer to loc which isn't your case but interlocking may be an option on ocassion.
Luv ur locs always no mater wat condition there in ♾loc'D 💜💜✌✌
I do interlocking (microlocs) but I did some videos where the ladies are using flaxseed gel to do a retwist
When your hair gets a little longer the fresh look will last. My locs will be 3 yrs at the end the month. And it was the same. Try two strain twist I found that helps with the fresh twist look.
Do you sit under the hair dryer? If so, how long? Have you tried aloe gel to avoid flaking and buildup?
I use Tight Hold too but I have never had build up.
I think you should not use both products at once.
After washing I usually put my hair in a style for a week after the retwist... Then it lasts atleast 2-3 weeks.
I have that same struggle loc. The solution is to actually gather all the surrounding hair when you retwist. If you don't retwist it ,the hair will grow away from the loc and it will fall off (Gasp)
I hope I have helped
Consider interlocking to keep the fresh look for longer
Jess if she likes the thickeness in her locs interlocking is a 🙅🏽♂️
I so agree she can alternate interlocking and palm rolling. It helps me a lot and my locs are still as thick as there where when i was palm, rolling
@@leelocd907 She can always do a 3 point or 2 point rotation to maintain thickness
Jess she could but then the interlocking would leave that pattern on her locs and they would no longer look how they look now
Hi,have you tried lock it up by tailed waajid.
I use the Hard Hold I the beginning and yessss....the damn flaks. I us Extra Dark Jamacian Castor oil to retwist. I never get build up.
Thank you! I’ve heard about oil only retwists so I think it’s about time I try it. I’ll be sure to give you guys a review when I do x
Sister Soko I do oil only too. It works.
African formula growth hair gel you can get it online Amazon it grew my hair back and it's a gel
Love the hair, music and accent! My retwist don't last more than a week.
Thanks! My retwists lasted longer at the start of my journey, these days the fresh look lasts about a week for me too 😩
So you recorded this before your sister counted them on camera :)
They're gorgeous with all the new growth, but I'd want the fresh look for a while, too.
Gorgeous!
Yeah mines doesn’t last either that’s why I just interlock
I think it's because of the thickness of the locs which is very beautiful

@@SisterSoko you are welcome Ms
Good for you for not using ecostyler! Not a good choice at all
That's why I interlock my hair
Semi freeform will be freedom for you ....but it's a mindset you must have...I love thepoemdances channel and a gal named Addette Wellington.

And I kept wrapping the new growth around the loc hoping it’ll do it’s magic and join and I feel as though it’s just thinning the roots so I’ve just decided to grow some more locs from the new growth😊
And I usually retwist every 3-4 months but I’m thinking of going back to regular maintenance anyway.
(PS sorry for the whole essay 😂)
You where using the wrong product sis, have you started using something different ?
You’re getting build up from the gel wax. Try the tight hold by itself.
