Beautifully tied flatwing; I suppose Kenney Abrames signature striped bass pattern. A Perfect Fish, and Striper Moon, are easy reads
with a wealth of saltwater fly fishing information from a philosophical, experienced fisherman. Thank you Davie for bringing the
    unique flatwing to our attention.

thanks Davie, class fly! I love tying and fishing these, Kenny is such a talent. Reading his books has changed the way I think of colour in my flies.

This perfect for imitating pacific sand lance in our area. I will be tying these for searun cuts and coho for my next trip. Thank you for being such a great source of information for all of us.

You tied this beautifully Davie. Ken Abrames is a local legend here in Rhode Island. I have seen some beautiful herring, squid and mackerel flatwing imitations. The flatwings seem to swim and glide on their own. Ken Abrames loves to fish his creations in current with a dead drift. The artwork in this book is fantastic.

      Hi Brian,
I feel really bad that I forgot Ken's name, but I certainly remember when my friend brought his book along for me to have a look at and when I saw the flies I knew I had to tye a few up, wonderful patterns and style..I'll need to get a copy of his book or hope that Ken releases another edition..I'm glad you liked the fly..
      All the very best Davie..

Quite timely for me. I have both of Ken Abrames books out by my tying bench. We're moving back to Rhode Island in a few months and I'll be fishing flatwings in and around Narragansett Bay. Thank you for a beautiful fly.

Awesome, Davie! Gorgeous fly and very well tied. 2 guys from Idaho , how about that! This is a great fly which also imitates a small blue backs and will work for dollies and large rainbows. Pend Oreille, we'll soon be on the way. Thanks, from Idaho!

This fly is so good for Striped Bass and Sea Trout Over here (Eastern Canada). Some fishermen use them for Walleye and Pike fishing. Love it. Thanks Davie 👏👏👏

I have a cape of stiff white hackles specifically for these flies. The reverse tied stiff hackle to support the wing is critical.

Very nice Davie and there is lots of variations possible on this, and I would imagine you could easily tie these for pike.

Beautiful, Davie. I will have to give that one a try...no sea trout here in Idaho, USA, but looks like a great pattern for bass and pike.

Flatwings are among the most graceful & beautiful streamers for saltwater or fresh. I like to tie these on saltwater, stainless Mustad circle hooks for striped bass. An all black version is effective as an adult eel pattern for fishing after dark. “Striper Moon” by Ken Abrames is a lovely book which has a lot of his paintings & patterns.

We don't think enough about mounting streamer wings in "flat wings". However, it gives a movement very different from a classic wing assembly, a more lively movement in my opinion. This (or these models) are formidable weapons to interest a bass or pollack at sea, especially on sandy bottoms. And we can even consider this type of assembly in the river to try a salmon or a sea trout, or even just a trout with small models. In any case, pretty flies. Thank you for these edits. All the best. Y.S.

Hey Davie. First time commenter, long time learner and fan.
You use a lot of Chinese and Indian necks and saddles, which is something I have always been in to as well. I don’t have any where that I can go to nearby that have Chinese and Indian hackle, and it’s always difficult to get consistent product online.
Any tips on strategies or simply a company, vendor, supplier, etc. for online buying with consistent quality? I have a flatwing I’ve worked on over the years with one hackle. I have learned a lot from your dying and colorant videos and if I could just do a bulk purchase this kind of multiple wing style I think could really set my fly off…
Also, your thread control is off the charts, and you have a great balance of video length to information, but a video or videos with intentionally verbalizing not just the tie specific techniques but also your thought process and just second nature type manipulation of thread and materials would be really interesting. A video series possibly… Maybe you have some, but your content catalogue is so huge that as a dad, husband, biologist, and whatever I can only consume and process so much😂😂.
Thank you for both what you’ve taught me and the quality of ties, and also the simple fact that you’ve brought a ton of joy to my life with your personality and content. Keep up the good work, and well done on everything…

Great pattern. For sea bass in Northern France (Brittany) use blue instead of green/olive. Could this be a better choice in Cornwall/Devon as well?

      Hi David,
I have tyed small minnow patterns in this style as well as some salmon flies and they look great but not have had a lot of time to try them, I am sure they will fish just as well as the saltwater patterns..
      All the very best Davie..

Davie - Where do you buy your larger peacock Eyes? I can only find smaller eyes.

      Hi Gerald,
I buy them direct from Veniards in bulk of 100 Extra Large Peacock eyes so that I can select the best for the flies I want to tye.. Veniards are a wholesale company so you will have to get one of the shops that stock their materials to order them for you which I am sure you can..It's been a while since I ordered some so I'm not sure what they cost now..
      All the very best Davie..
