No offense to Germany or Italy but we Americans invented the modern-day pizza and hamburgers as we know them today. Germany "invented" hamburger steaks (ground beef with spices no bread) Italy's pizza was basically flatbread/focaccia so really, we invented them. Italian American and German American immigrants did, sorry not sorry. 😜
The reveal that Jamie's dad took him to lose his virginity when he was underage, (which he doesn't remember, a sign of trauma) really recontextualizes the charity dinner in season 1 when Roy and Keely tease him by telling him he's going to have to have sex with that older woman against his will.
When the Dutch pilot says “Oh yes we did…” he’s not talking about sex, to be clear. He’s saying they made a connection and might have had a love at first sight moment, or something along those lines.
Ya, but Americans ain’t poets, we did in Merica means WE FUCKED BABY WOOOO😂😂 And I promise you when he retells that story to his pilots friends, he tell it so that they did. Because no man can be that perfect, right? Right?
It is so interesting hearing different reactors interpret the Dutchman’s “Did we? Oh, yes. We did.” I only ever took it as “Did we fall in love? Did we make a connection? Did we find “Gezellig?” Their connection was too pure and real for me to ever thing that he took advantage of Rebecca or lied in his first “Did we? No”
I totally thought they boned. In my opinion Rebecca should have at least gave him a hand job(did you see how much shoulder he puts into those foot rubs!!! That’s a “you owe me” type of touch😂😂😂
I think the most underrated line is when Will the hitman says to his mother, "And then I met this lovely couple and they invited me to have a threeway!"
The best part of this episode is that the conversation between Collin and Trent on the water takes place at the "homomonument", a monument dedicated to the suffering of queer people throughout history, a commemoration of the first same sex marriages in the modern world in the church right behind them, and a hopeful future for all parts of the community. I like that they don't directly acknowledge it in the show, but it makes the moment even better if you know :) ❤🏳️🌈
I'm very surprised Eric didn't quite understand the "Did we?" thing. He usually picks up on that stuff pretty well. I always took it as her asking "Did we (have sex)?", to which he confirms they didn't. But then he says "Did we (fall in love)?" to which he answers for himself, "We did." That question he asks himself could be worded a few different ways, but was definitely never him suggesting they actually had sex, lol, specifically since they also showed him closing the curtains after putting a blanket over her. it would be so dark and morbid for any show, let alone Ted Lasso, to imply he then came back out of his bedroom and took advantage of her.
The writing for this show is incredible and clever. There are always callbacks. Jaime’s “For grandad” is a callback to him calling Roy grandad in S1 when they had the initial “fight” in the locker room when Beard said “No fight club”.
This episode is pure magic. Everybody's connection is spectacular; "Roy and Jamie Road Trips" is 100% a show I would binge; Collin got to finally relax and be himself - and let's face it, he got to spend the evening doing "Real Talk with Trent Crim", another bingeworthy show; Will got to spend an evening with ""Higgins' Jazzy Nights"; "Ted's Trip" was a lot of fun, and now that we have an idea of what Beard's nights are like, our imaginations can run wild on what he went through 😆 but the capper was Rebecca having the perfect meet cute night with a man who has absolutely no idea who she is.
I like that it was all Ted that came up with the idea of using "Total Football." Yes, it already existed but he didn't know that, and it wasn't some drug. It shows that Ted can actually strategize, and his skills aren't just motivating his team and getting them to Believe. He is a good X's and O's coach as well.
This is such a masterpiece of an episode. I knew Ted Lasso wasn't going to win Emmys this year, but if anything deserved to, it was the nominations linked to this episode.
As a Dutchie i have to say that this episode is one of the best representations of my country and culture. They really did their research. One of the best episodes of a fantastic series
This is one of, if not my favorite episodes of the whole show. Jaimie & Roy on their bikes, as well as the team never leaving the hotel are just hilarious. Call back to first season when Ted suggests a pillow fight. Colin & Trent’s scenes were so heartfelt. I especially love Rebecca’s scenes, and we see another part of her prophecy come true - thunder and lightning, upside down, drenched, but safe. And that’s another call back to what Roy said in season 2- not literal lightning, but a person that makes Rebecca feel like she was struck by lightning. Beautiful episode!
This episode is not just the best of Season 3 or even of the whole series. I think this is the best episode of television that I have ever seen. The way they teased us into thinking EVERY scene was going go one way and then switching it on us. The way every grouping ended up getting exactly what they needed in that moment was brilliant. Amsterdam looked stunning. Everything about this episode is perfect. I challenge anyone to name a better episode of television.
One of the things I loved about this ep (which is the spiritual sequel to Beard After Hours) is that they picked the perfect place for Trent & Collin to talk: the Homomonument. ❤
This is such a fun episode for me because I live close to the mill Jamie and Roy bike to, I used to bike passed almost every day. My town is on the same river as Amsterdam and would often bike into the city. So fun to see it all represented in a show like this. I literally have been to all the places you see and know exactly where it is in the city.
Idk if it was the Music or the acting, or the Story, this is my favorite Episode of the whole show. I was going through some dark shit in my life and this episode cheered me up in an unexpected way.
Besides all the aviation memorabilia on the Dutchman's walls, there are three little birds - because, as we know, every little thing's gonna be all right.
I loved Jamie's "For Grandpa!" line. If you remember in season one, Jamie's called Roy "Grandpa". So, not only did he help Roy learn to ride a bike for Roy's Grandpa, but it was for Roy also!
The Don Quixote of it all! My very favorite episode. It was so hard when the show ended … and it’s going to happen all over again. You guys have brought so much joy on the re-watch. ❤
Just wanted to point out the use of 'Raindrops Keep Fallin' on my Head' during the bicycle scene as a nod to the random bicycle scene in the film 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid'.
Yeah, I was sad that none of them knew that reference. Butch Cassidy is not a movie that is thought of much these days but it would be a good one to add to your list. You guys would enjoy it.
This episode was one of my favourites of the whole series. It was so wholesome and heartwarming, every storyline was so well done. I was waiting for this one to come up, because it's just so damn good.
13:55 wait did Jamie shout "you lucky people!"? Because that might be an absolutely fantastic referece. The show Nick Frost/Simon Pegg/Edgar Wright and Jessica Hynes made back in the early 00's called Spaced, had a party head called Tyres (nicknamed because he was always riding a bike around the place) and a few times said "You lucky people!" when riding in or out of the scene
I have been waiting for you guys to get to this episode! This is my favorite episode in the entire show. It’s just so joyful and wholesome, after the first half of the season being so rough on each character.
Same! I loved all the little details, the 2 hour long dryer, the text from Rebecca to Ted saying “I-Yax” and trying to explain gezellig ❤ En mijn familie komt unit Groningen 🇳🇱
Actually some of most American foods are things like Soul, Cajun, and Barbeque - the latter is specifically a great example of Americans going abroad and starting barbeque joints in many foreign cities.
Came here to say this, delighted it was already here! I think it's related to the fact that many folks from other countries don't realize just how incredibly large the US is. "American food" is largely regional ingredients and flavors. It would be like classifying everything from lutefisk to linguini as "European food".
I can never decide between this and 2x05 "Rainbow" for my favourite episode of the show. "Sunflowers" has an incredible spread of character moments though - whether it's Trent Crimm finally encouraging Colin to open up, Rebecca allowing herself a spontaneous connection to a charming stranger, the reversal of Jamie teaching Roy, or Beard rattling off some near-perfect Dutch. I love it, and I'm excited to see your reactions to the team's new strategy
This and the Christmas episode might be my two favorites. Just the off-beat nature of the episode, and not so much character building moments, so much as truly well-done moments of character expression.
No but what's crazy is Ted's little dream sequence was a reference to the Disney short "Donald in Mathmagic Land", and they got Disney voice actor Corey Burton to do the narration in the style of Paul Frees, the actor who narrated that short.
I guess in Germany if a restaurant says "American food" it's mostly something like if McDonald's and a steak house had a baby. So a sea of beige - fries, onion rings, fried chicken - plus burgers, ribs and steak. Same when Aldi or any other discounter has "American week". You'll get all the beige freezer foods, plus hotdog buns and fried onions, weird pizza concoctions, marshmallows, brownies and muffins. 😅
I’m glad Aaron actually pointed out the “upside down” & “soaking wet” psychic connection. Some reactors get the mother/found-family part at the end, but I feel so few reactors actually mention this part of it because it’s the main one that isn’t spoon-fed like the green matchbook & “shight in knining armor.”
Eric’s question about where you would take them is easy as someone from Kansas City… take them to the finest BBQ on Earth. Also the hamburger as it exists today was created in America.
As someone from Hamburg, I think the creation myth is somewhere around the lines of meat-patties being sold inside two slices of bread to people emigrating to the US. One could reduce a hamburger to "meat in bread", but it's not really the same. So to me it's food that had its origins here, but the version we actually think of when we say Hamburger is certainly American as you say.
Yea Louis’ Lunch in New Haven, CT claims to be the first place to serve the traditional hamburger sandwich in America. Also, New Haven is often considered to be the pizza capital of the U.S. (Frank Sinatra’s personal favorites came from there!)
this and the coach beard episode are some of my favourite epidodes of TV in history. Its quite interesting how these two episodes have been soo polarizing in the fanbase of the show. They seem kinda like marmite episodes, either loved or hated!
It's odd, I love this episode but rank "Beard After Hours" as my least favorite of all 3 seasons of _Ted Lasso,_ easily. No disrespect to Brendan Hunt; I just think Beard works much better in small doses and as a foil for energetic Ted. (It's also awkward to add an episode to a season after-the-fact, although I liked "Carol of the Bells" anyway.)
25:41 As far as the team sucking despite having made such a big deal about having two aces in s1 - I think that's in part because Ted hasn't been fully present of late. It started with the team getting relegated (even though it was the result of sabotage, he still believed it was ultimately his fault, even tried handing in his resignation). Then his anxiety and depression reared their ugly heads, and he didn't really have much time to recover before everything happened with Nate. In his eyes, two massive failures, on top of all his guilt about Henry. Everyone's been changed by Ted, that's clear, and mostly for the better. The actual players are more of a team than they've ever been. But they still need a manager who's present to guide them, and after being admonished since s1 about the value of winning, plus everything else, I think Ted's been present physically but no longer emotionally (see how he let Zava act however he wanted, something he never would have allowed in season 1). Beard and Roy are also physically there, but while they're great people they're not so great at the team building (yet), as evidenced by their harebrained idea to show the team the video of Nate ripping down the Believe sign. I think this is the episode where Ted finally starts getting back at least some of his perspective, and can actually use his players' skills effectively again.
My city has an "american cuisine" restaurant. It's basically all burgers or chicken & waffles. Burgers aren't far off fast food quality but for restaurant prices.
Ted Lasso is a man so wholesome, so homesick, and so patriotic that the taste of his favorite Kentucky BBQ sauce gives him a drug trip😂😂😂 I hope to one day be such a soul, for now I will stick to hardcore drugs to deal with my personal issues
Yeah, they specifically bring him sauce from Arthur Bryant's. Probably the most famous and historic of the KC BBQ restaurants. That coupled with all the references to Kansas things (Sunflowers, triangle offense) makes it hard to mistake it for Kentucky.
I went to Scandinavia with my wife, first European trip. We were in Norway and it started downpouring in like 10 seconds. We ran into the first restaurant we could find, wouldn’t you know it, American themed. It was decked out like a forest gumps but a little more generic, and while the burger was actually pretty good, the fish soup after walking in the rain really hit the spot. Then in Sweden we went to the saloon. This was right after Roe v Wade got overturned though, so my wife spent most of her time flipping off all the Uncle Sam posters. They did freak out when we ordered the specialty cocktail though. Swedes don’t do mixed drinks, just large, low abu beers and ciders.
Either Texas Barbecue(specifically Brisket), CORNBREAD, collard greens, mashed potatoes, and a side of Biscuits and Gravy just so they could experience a gravy other than brown gravy OR the same sides and Chicken Fried Steak as the entrée.
As someone who’s traveled extensively (retired Navy) my experience says if you want American food while traveling in foreign countries, you’re limiting yourself. Not to say that a Water Buffalo burger with goat cheese and banana ketchup isn’t fantastic!
On the discussion on American food, usually the stereotype is burgers, yet over in the UK there's a chain of restaurants called Gourmet Burger Kitchen, GBK for short, and that was *easily* the best burger I had ever had in my life. I can only recommend if anyone ever visits or is from the area and just hasn't checked it out.
Also, when "God" drops a square and it turns into two triangles you hear "oopsie." In the credits it says: "God - As Herself" and the voice is Hannah Waddingham's.
The encounter with Rebecca is so awesome because she didn't need it. It didn't fix a problem. It wasn't about some plot fulfillment for her. She was just a woman who was having a shitty day and he was an amazing guy, and they acknowledged that it didn't have to be more than awesome.. Somehow that's so much better than a meet cute that starts a relationship or helps the girl get out of her dating slump and find a man. I take issue with PIzza being dismissed as non-American. Pezze was made in Italy and it's super similar to what we eat, but when Norwegians or Japanese folks go out to get pizza they're not eating at an Italian restaurant 9 times out of 10. They're eating at a Pizza Hut or Dominos or some other American Pizza chain It's made on a rotary oven with pineapple or green peppers and other distinctly American toppings. It's different than the Italian root food even when they've adopted our "American Style".
The "American food experience" is stepping out of the house and getting items from all over the world rather than being stuck eating the same old shit my ancestors had forced upon them by location and circumstance.
I guess the argument about American cuisine is that it’s made up for bits from people from all over the world because that is what America is made of. That being said when I think American food my go to is a good southern BBQ slow cooked and smoked ribs and brisket with some mash or roasted potatoes cornbread and a nice cobbler or pie for dessert.
“Dani is such a pure soul”… yeah, about that. “they got the 2 aces and suddenly theyre not good enough”…. good enough to get back to PL, just need the right tactics to maximize their effectiveness.. its coming
It is obvious she was going to ask if they made love and he said no because he knew she was asking if they had sex. But he then said to himself that yes they did because they had made love, they just didn't have sex. If you cannot understand the distinction, you are either very young, virginal, or desperately in need of experience.
Regarding “the quintessential American Meal”, we do t have just one - just one state can be as large as many individual countries. Some states could even have two or three if it’s a very large one with a large population. We don’t one quintessential American meal - we have at least 50 of them.
So apparently UA-cam's fix to Adblock...is to make it almost IMPOSSIBLE to comment on anything without it lagging like dial-up internet. I might even consider YT Premium if it wasn't so astronautically expensive for a service that just removes Ads. How is it more expensive than HBO?
I was on a month and a half academic program in London and one night some of my friends wanted American food, so we went to an American themed place near Covent Garden. It was awful. Worst meal of the whole trip without a doubt. London’s got great food, especially the Indian places, but it’s not worth wasting your money and time on American food there lol.

American style food elsewhere is usually either Texas or Soul food. Not French fries though, those aren't American
I’m so excited for their reaction on the episodes to come. Especially the penultimate one.
I love the next one- no strings attached, it’s so funny and the end; oh boy so great!
Psychic told her she would have a family, not a baby
Ted Lasso is a man so wholesome, so homesick, and so patriotic that the taste of his favorite Kentucky BBQ sauce gives him a drug trip😂😂😂 I hope to one day be such a soul, for now I will stick to hardcore drugs to deal with my personal issues
KENTUCKY BBQ!? Don’t you ever disrespect Kansas City BBQ like that! Hahaha
@@DrOzzy15I said what I meant😂 you really gonna compare Kentucky BBQ to Missouri?
Yeah, they specifically bring him sauce from Arthur Bryant's. Probably the most famous and historic of the KC BBQ restaurants. That coupled with all the references to Kansas things (Sunflowers, triangle offense) makes it hard to mistake it for Kentucky.
This was probably my overall favorite episode of Season 3. The final two were definitely great, but this one is a gem 👌
This is one of my favorite episodes of Season 3.
Either Texas Barbecue(specifically Brisket), CORNBREAD, collard greens, mashed potatoes, and a side of Biscuits and Gravy just so they could experience a gravy other than brown gravy OR the same sides and Chicken Fried Steak as the entrée.
Omg I have watched Agents of Shield 3 times and Ted Lasso again with you guys and I never saw that Davis and Zava were the same guy!!
Davis and then there’s Buggy on One Piece who was on AOS as well
The episode was wonderful. Gezellig if you will.
As someone who’s traveled extensively (retired Navy) my experience says if you want American food while traveling in foreign countries, you’re limiting yourself. Not to say that a Water Buffalo burger with goat cheese and banana ketchup isn’t fantastic!
This feels like one of the best episodes!
Check out "Love Shack" cover by Brendan Hunt (coach Beard) & Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca)
Looooooove this episode! So fun. ❤
My fav episode
Never caught that Zava was Agents of shield Davis. 🤯🤯 Roy is pure GOLD.
This episode was one of the best of s3.
Did y'all pick up on the voice in Ted's vision being Corey Burton?
Love the Percy Jackson profile picture
Outback Steakhouse is not Aussie cuisine.
Fun fact, French fries on pizza is dope. Go to Montreal, get a pizza, get some poutine and throw that on the pizza! You’re welcome!
Damn! Y'all already at S3?! I really need to catch up!
I thought the Zava is Davis reveal was going to be bigger lmao.
maybe my fave episode of the entire series! Piggy Stardust! dbl ♥
YES!!
“Dani is such a pure soul”… yeah, about that.
“they got the 2 aces and suddenly theyre not good enough”…. good enough to get back to PL, just need the right tactics to maximize their effectiveness.. its coming
Loved this episode, felt like a palate cleanser. Tidied up plot points/story lines really allowing the show line up the finish.
Hope you check out the Ted series from MacFarlane. I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time
It is obvious she was going to ask if they made love and he said no because he knew she was asking if they had sex.
I dropped YT premium when they raised the fee last year.
The only negative thing about Dutch guy is that he ruined my chances with Hannah Waddingham.
👍🏾
I was on a month and a half academic program in London and one night some of my friends wanted American food, so we went to an American themed place near Covent Garden. It was awful. Worst meal of the whole trip without a doubt. London’s got great food, especially the Indian places, but it’s not worth wasting your money and time on American food there lol.
In the American restaurant, there are two different US flags and both are wrong.
Please react to LETTERKENNY!!!
