I built this kit a few months ago and I thought it was pretty great. One of kits I was looking hard for on my most recent trip to japan. Articulation leaves a lot to be desired though. I wish there was a newer version of it or any acknowledgment of G-Savior in any newer video games because It looks so damn cool.
Latest form of acknowledgement for G-Saviour is Build Fighters. This kit is pretty decent for the period, but an update is appreciated, along with the other modes. If only the title was received better
YESSSSSSSSS! I have a soft spot for this kit, you can tell they put effort into this hoping the live action movie would be big. They were just limited by the time but it has aged decently. On a side note, I appreciate how you end with the kit panel lined and topcoated, but the core review is in a straight build. I always remind those who don't or can't paint, that just panel lining and a matte topcoat is the most bang for your buck for making a kit look less like a toy.
I like to be as comprehensive as possible, showing straight-built appearances and sticker quality, and then what would result if you put a little effort in. Glad you like it!
As reviled as the movie was, I'm still of the opinion that the game that followed it is worthy of much more respect and praise. Not a lot in total, but still. It's story is very inline with Gundams themes, basically taking the Mobile Doll plot from Wing and taking it to its logical extreme, and the voice acting, while bad, is so in that old 90s early 2000s way that makes you smile and go "Ah, them's were the days." And in all honesty, as much as G-Saviour got wrong, the MS designs were NOT one of them. And I will not rest in peace until I get my HGUC G-Saviour Revive along with both the G-2 and G-3! Maybe an anime reboot of the movie to while their at it, show them Canadians how to do it right!
I'd at least appreciate that they give us the Terrain Mode armor to make use of the ugly pegs and holes around the body. I always have a liking for mid-battle changes, and that is no exception
It's amazing how good this kit is considering its age. I'm very, very happy to have gotten 2 of them when I did. This kit is unbelievably good considering it came out in 2000 and the only downside is we never got a kit for the Terrain mode or any of the other MS from the movie. Yeah, the movie sucked, but the MS designs were great. It's also crazy how expensive this kit is in Japan. If you find it in a second-hand store like Book Off or Surugaya, expect to pay somewhere between 6000 and 8000 yen.
I'm glad I got mine when I did as well, as I bought mine for the cheap price of around $120 HKD per. The kit itself is quite decent as well, so that's some extra points to it. Is it worth the Suruga-ya asking price though? I'm not so sure
I'm surprised that they actually made a model kit based around that movie that that we all pretend never existed but yet the model is actually pretty decent. Like I'm speechless and the fact that they solved the toothpick problem in a decent way makes it even more shocking. A pretty interesting redux review all the same!
The EZ-8 does have a modern and well regarded HG. It still doesn’t have a modern MG AFAIK. Same goes for the Gundam Ground Type and the GM Ground Type, as well as the EZ-8's main rival, the Gouf Custom. The Alex in the other hand doesn’t have a HG but does have an MG, while its rival suits all still don’t have any modern kits. Funnily enough, the fed grunts from the OVA are in the same boat as the Alex (except the Cold Districts Type, God bless its soul). 0083 still has the shortest end of the stick, with the most modern kits being a couple of early RGs that look good but people say are pretty finnicky. As someone whose favorite OYW gundam is the Alex and whose bread and butter is High Grades, I really hope they make a Revive of it soon, but damn, 0083 kits should be a priority at this point. Neglecting such great designs is really hard to understand.
There's only one, and it still hasn't seen a revive thus far. I do hope Bandai will be one day bold enough to face their dark history and redo those titles

Thank you! I'd say if you want to replicate an official representation, just go for the one you like. And since the missing details of this kit are simple to fill in, you can get by with markers. A couple of layers if one isn't enough, and have some alcohol handy to clean up any excess. Also, top-coating it would improve the final product and protect the work you've put in
A shame we never got more G-Saviour kits. That movie is basically to Gundam what the Tristar Godzilla film is to that franchise. Only Zilla had a budget.
I’ve had this for a few years now but have yet to open it. As obscure of media as G-Savior is, it’s fun to see something like this is HG form. This would be a pretty fun P-Bandai exclusive
With a pin vice (or a hand drill or whatever you call it), I guess you could drill a 1.5mm hole on the dummy beam saber to make it compatible with modern beam effect parts, like the HG Zeta Plus from Unicorn or even the HG Gundvolva. Altough that won't take the clear toothpick's merit away.
With the chest, does the model have detail behind the sticker or is that just from the sticker there because it looks like it would be simple to replace there
This reminds me that I nees to record footage and make a video for my own G-Saviour custom kitbash. We can all agree that both the kit and movie were not that great, but I still have nostalgia for both.

Honestly when you compare it to other 1/44 kits from around the same time, the G-Saviour was one of the best kits. the 1/144 kits for Victory where pretty decent for their time, but for some reason Bandai really dropped the ball on the 1/144 G, Wing, X and Turn A kits from the same era. The 1/144 8th MS Team and Endless Waltz kits where passible at best.
I'd argue that point extends to a lot of the HG SEED line. I've built like one or two old 1/144s, and the Turn X stands up to the G-Saviour no problem. Then there's the original HG Freedom and HG Hyperion
@@mj2005gundam Honestly, the best kit from the 1/144 Turn-A line is the Mobile FLAT. The Turn-X is ok, but if one puts it right next to the HG Turn-A it just pales in comparison. And not because of the color seperation, but rather the depth of the details and the amount of them. He just looks super soft. While the FLAT also needs some paint, the amount and depth of his details is way better. And regarding the G-Saviour, it feels like Bandai was actually putting more money into the kit then others from around the same time. The color seperation is pretty good, especially when compared to kits that were released later in the HG line. Articulation might feel dated, but only when compared to modern kits, which this one with 24 years of age can't compete with. Even kits released after the G-Saviour weren't that much more advanced in regards to their articulation. After all, we are talking about over two decades of advancements in Gunpla technology and even then, the Tristan still feels worse then the G-Saviour.
i dont mind this models draw backs, heck I Love the g saviour movie saw it the night before i went to see the first Pacific Rim movie and that was one of best Movie double features EVER if not all time loved the movie love the kit
The designs were good, it’s just that the movie wasn’t. I still think there’s plenty of potential in the world of G-Saviour, it just needs some passion.

i think it can look good if it comes in a more complete appearance (upper arm and thighs having armors) and smaller shoulder pads. never liked incomplete looking suits (that includes narrative)
As much as the movie sucks, the design of the ms is really cool, the only thing that kinda throws me off is the thighs and upper arms, a bit too skinny

G-Savior movie was constrant by it dated CGI and extremely low budget, 1mil Yen which roughly 8k usd

It definitely deserves it. Maybe even the 1/100 Gusion treatment as well, give it both Space and Terrain mode armor in the same kit

The real Mecha robot kits are kyoukai Senki . Gundams look like more cyborg humanoids . They are cool though
