If you look into studies that show how quick and how much bacteria can grow on your feminine hygiene/menstrual products, you will find that bacteria is able to grow quicker on cups due to the humidity those cups produce inside of you. i.e. you may actually have higher risk of toxic shock leaving one of these inside of you.

The only issue I have in that regard is that since I got the C-vid shot nearly 3 years ago, I have developed extremely heavy flow for hour bursts for a day or two. If I don’t go in the bathroom every 20 minutes during those spells, it will want to fall out. How tf were tampons even allowed to be produced if they (the FDA) don't even know what tf is in it?! That's crazy lol but they STILL don't have the answers it sounds like omfg 🙄 like come on now, make it make sense.
It's because the FDA has a lot less power than the chemical companies. There are about 80,000 chemicals in our air, food, water, and products, and only a handful (e.g. asbestos) are regulated. A chemical is allowed until it has been proven toxic and harmful, and even then, it's very hard to gather enough science AND lobby for the chemical to be banned. This has been known for decades, but money rules. Companies have also sponsored politicians, so that the government won't tighten the rules. And now that the Supreme Court has attacked the Chevron rule, the FDA will be powerless to do anything against this state of affairs. Vote wisely!
Lice shampoo contains neurotoxins and parents have been using that poison on their children for decades. Those toxins get absorbed into the bloodstream and cause all kinds of health issues.

So glad I am finding out all of this before I get back into my regular cycles after weaning my baby girls so I can start again with healthier habits and more environmentally friendly. Congratulations 😊
My question is, could these poisons have affected women's reproductive health? What about cancer and other types of issues? If I were a scientist who had access to the ones that were made from long ago to now, I'd like to know the differences, if any. What is the consumer left with to purchase these days that isn't poisoned in one way or the other?
Makes me wonder about these metals & poisons leaching into the bloodstream via micro-tears. But also how much of these chemicals are actually in the products? How much would it take to make a woman sick? Still infuriating that there’s ANY bad ingredients in there though.
I recently watched a podcast featuring someone who works in infertility treatments. She was saying what while some of the birth rate going down is due to people choosing not to have kids, there's also a rising number of people who do want to have kids and are struggling. I'm wondering if this could be part of it, if these substances in tampons are affecting women's fertility long-term
@drea409 birth control also has an impact. I read that a preliminary study found that mothers who used birth control, gave birth to sons with a lower sperm count, so the males were later unable to impregnate someone when they were older. Everything is just so bad for us.
At this point I would want pads tested too. I'd say im shocked about the whole thing but lets face it, womens health has never been a priority. Let us not forget that baby powder was found to be linked to ovarian cancer. Johnson and johnson also makes O.B tampons. Im a little disappointed that the reporter is suggesting other methods when for someone like me who has used a mix of pads and tampons for 30 YEARS. The damage is already done. For all the young ladies out there, I hope perhaps you do choose another method.
Metals are not "inserted intentionally." Tampons are made from cotton which grows in soil. Soil has tiny amounts of metals. So does the water you drink. The study fails to show that the tiny amounts of metals in tampons (which no women use in a dissolved state) has ANY actual effect or even absorption in vivo.
@@diandian9827uhh..idk where you got that from but that goes against the laws of physics, metal doesn’t just “dissolve” due to water, and cotton, you would need an extreme tempature to do that, there’s tiny particles of metal INSIDE.. and even if it was a “small amount” mercury and arsenic is dangerous even AT those small amounts your supposed to be fully suited and gloves to deal with a little, and this is repeadley over time how many tampons do woman go through a week? A year? That’s alot of metal over time.

So, this is not new findings, but still good to see it on the news and someone doing more to research about it. Nothing to worry about though, yeah right I don't believe that at all. Ask a woman who's survived toxic shock or talk to one of her surviving loved ones... I believe there is (and always has been) something to worry about. We can't have lead paint (so much that they demolish a building with it in it or eradicate the lead and treat it as a toxin and use ppe). Fish and mercury, among other places - can't have too much of that either (like lead). What the .. and we allow food and hba industries, cleaning supply companies, and pest, and lawn care companies just load up on chemicals...🤷🏼♀️. doesn’t matter if our body absorbs it or not the fact they were even in them and we just found out shows how little care was put into such an important thing for women, we shouldn’t need research to see if it’s negatively affecting us after it’s possibly been in the products for years we 100% need some sort of money returns if it has been absorbed into our system and 100% need money for emotional damage. I think it should be a freak out moment as if this is in the products without us knowing it shows how little trust women should have for those who create a whole company surrounding women. Only recently women have been allowed into many medicine studies as apparently we would affect the results with our hormones meaning many medicines dosages are based off men and it is proven medicine has more side affect for women than men most likely due to this. A Brazilian study in the 2000s found mainstream tampons had high levels of ag chemicals. Those chemicals cause hormonal disruption and can affect fertility. So can all those plastics.
@@FleetingArtist The study only tested mainstream tampons, but a company that makes both uses the same materials for both products. Pads could be a better choice since they are not used internally; however, a female is born with all her eggs so I wouldn't risk affecting the female or her future children especially since these chemicals are in most mainstream foods and conventional produce. Basically, it's better to reduce exposure when you can. The companies who make the chemicals also made Agent Orange and the Vietnamese people are still experiencing birth defects generations after the initial exposure their grand or great-grandparents had. Surgical grade silicone menstrual cups will last for several years, saving you so much money & from so many health risks. They even carry them @ Walmart now. I used one for a few years & loved it, but wished I'd found it sooner. I saved about $40/month! It ended my period poverty, since I also had a teen girl who loved them. I saved $480/yr.
Messy and uncomfortable. No thanks.
@@Nefariousaa I literally don't know what to do anymore. When I was using a cup, I figured as long as you sterilize it at the end of each period like the directions say, it's all good. But using cups was too messy and cumbersome so I switched back to tampons and pads, but now I have toxic metals to worry about. I have no idea how to take care of reusable pads, but I do know I hate using pads when my period's heavier bc it's so messy. Plus I just don't wanna have to deal with washing them, but now I might have no choice but to switch to that. Luckily though it seems that TSS from cups is extremely rare...so maybe I'll switch back to cups.

Uncomfortable? Have you tried it? And which kind? Which size? I’m not literally asking you to answer, just bringing up that the type and size makes a difference.
I use the larger Diva cup and Saalt cup. The Diva I cut the little pointy thing off. For me, it is much more comfortable than a tampon or pads.
And the mess? I guess that is up to technique. The only issue I have in that regard is that since I got the C-vid shot nearly 3 years ago, I have developed extremely heavy flow for hour bursts for a day or two. If I don’t go in the bathroom every 20 minutes during those spells, it will want to fall out. I used a cup for over a decade before that, and have NEVER had that problem, even if I was too busy and had it in all day.
I actually find I am cleaner than with other menstrual products. I guess we all have different experiences.
🎉🎉❤❤ YES !! Preach!! I stopped using tampons about a decade ago because of the ingredients in tampons. I will never go back!
People don't like "regulations".....
The FDA is bought and paid for by big business regardless of who is in the White House. The EPA too.
Almost all OTC vitamins are not FDA approved.
You don’t have to have approval to sell it.
Lice shampoo contains neurotoxins and parents have been using that poison on their children for decades. Those toxins get absorbed into the bloodstream and cause all kinds of health issues.

Really annoying how nothing isn’t safe
Wait, you just said "nothing isn't safe". The negation in both "nothing" and "isn't" cancels out meaning that "everything is safe".
They should be made with 100 percent cotton.
Uh-they are 100% cotton. I guess you missed the part where they reported the heavy metals were higher in organic tampons??
cotton is a plant so the issue could be that they absorb minerals and metals when they are growing
@hannahbanana9901 I can't see it happening any other way. If so, how were they exposed or created with it? Women can't catch a break, I swear!
@@r8chllettersNo, organic tampons contain higher levels of arsenic, while inorganic tampons contain higher levels of lead. Between arsenic and lead, I prefer arsenic, the body can eliminate it unlike lead.
It's possible to fear monger anything, a regular fruit that has grown in your yard is composed by a long long list of chemicals with strange names, for an apple one of them is cyanide. But in the end it's the dose that makes the poison, every single time.
The press and charlatans loves to fear monger as they know that nothing sells better, so always look at the data or find someone who does by breaking it down rationally.
I would reccomend that everyone who can try washable, resusable cotton menstrual products. They are great for the environment, economical, organic cotton if you want and usually produced domestically---mine were sewn in Wisconsin.
With no Chevron deference, the company can do whatever they want
They'll just wait until this blows over and continue on
This. FU Supreme Court. Vote blue for women’s sake.
FDA should do a recall. Just like they do for any other product
We are discussing 14 brands. How many brands can any of us name? There would be nothing left on the shelves unfortunately.
Do you think those fabric tampons would work? Idk im thinking of anything
If lead in paint isn’t allowed and mercury shouldn’t be touched, then of course inserting these metals intentionally isn’t safe.
Nothing compared to what goes into “make up”
And somehow people can’t work out why cancer is increasing fast, what a time to be alive ✌️
No wonder we’re dead inside 🙂
A model had her legs amputated due to tampon toxicity!
This is unacceptable, gonna stay in the house that week and not work I guess
This was like Gym class at my school district. In Junior High and High School a girl could get out of PE class if her mom/dad gave her a note saying she was on her period. I feel sorry for all the girls who were on thier period every other week instead of just one week a month. And my mom never gave me a note because she didn't think it was any kind of reason to miss gym class. The entire school also knew who was on thier period because they were sitting on the bench during gym class....
Well what happened to Johnson & Johnson baby powder...

Are regular disposable pads safe or not? It was a question that was not answered
I will say its safer because its not internal. But you want to make sure it doesn't have toxic chemicals that are against your skin.

Yes, there's a small learning curve but so worth the switch!
A thought, any manufacturer making toxic products have a responsibility to pay for the medical bills, treatments, and procedures (for specific illnesses caused by their products) of those affected...and maybe even take care of their families afterwards.
No company would agree to that... ☠️
Hey I don’t mean to assume but , could this have possibly contributed to why so many woman have faced toxic shock syndrome due to the metals?and if so I fully believe there needs to be some sort of justice for so many victims

Useless comment. The study states further study is needed to see if the tiny fraction of metals, 10000x less than in your drinking water, would even be ABSORBED in any measure by women, much less affect them.
Did you even read the study, or do you just jump on bandwagons?
@diandian9827 so they need to study the drinking water as well , they should be busy, after that maybe the food and soils
@@diandian9827right? A lot of people just say things without knowing we "consume" different metals and chemicals daily, it's even in the air, and think it's intentional poisoning. Though it doesn't excuse the delay in research, wich is the actual problem. Endometriosis link?!?!?!?
I was thinking the same thing !!!
Not necessarily. My mom had a full hysterectomy a few years ago for cervical cancer and never used tampons (scared of toxic shock) I have fibroids, endometriosis and PCOS and never use tampons either. It may be a factor, but not the whole shabang. And that will be the difficulty, even if they do find a link, you would need to prove in court that it was the 20 years of tampons that is the cause and not anything else (harder if other women in your family had it as well), and since women who don't use them still have reproductive issues, that will be impossible.

From an intellectual point of view, this is just greedy, pathetic and unnecessary.
doesn’t matter if our body absorbs it or not the fact they were even in them and we just found out shows how little care was put into such an important thing for women, we shouldn’t need research to see if it’s negatively affecting us after it’s possibly been in the products for years we 100% need some sort of money returns if it has been absorbed into our system and 100% need money for emotional damage. Pads are likely to have this, tampons are likely to have this, period pads are likely to have this we don’t have much choices over something we are shamed into buying
I switched to a silicone disc about a year ago after tampons became uncomfortable. I have lived with chronic pelvic pain for over 15years. Glad I’m post menopausal and grew up using pads…
A Brazilian study in the 2000s found mainstream tampons had high levels of ag chemicals. Those chemicals cause hormonal disruption and can affect fertility. So can all those plastics.
What about the pads?
@@FleetingArtist The study only tested mainstream tampons, but a company that makes both uses the same materials for both products. Pads could be a better choice since they are not used internally; however, a female is born with all her eggs so I wouldn't risk affecting the female or her future children especially since these chemicals are in most mainstream foods and conventional produce. Basically, it's better to reduce exposure when you can. The companies who make the chemicals also made Agent Orange and the Vietnamese people are still experiencing birth defects generations after the initial exposure their grand or great-grandparents had. And that's how the chemicals work - terminating pests/weeds by causing hormonal disruption or neurological disorders but the chemicals don't differentiate between a pest/weed or a human.
