Did you get to watch this as a kid/ grow up with it? I wish I had! Let me know, and let me know your favorite characters in the movie (besides Pee-wee) Mine are Speck and Dottie...and Mickey!!
I would have been six when it came out, but I don't remember seeing it in the theater. I know I saw it a ton as a kid though, so they must have played it on cable regularly or we bought the vhs
James Brolin was a very well known actor of the 70's & 80's. His son is actor Josh Brolin. They look a little like each other. Maybe that's why he looked familiar? I saw this movie in the theatre as a teen. EVERYBODY screamed during the Large Marge face surprise!
Ohhhh, yep that it absolutely why he looked so familiar...Josh looks so much like him! And why his name sounded familiar. It sounds so similar to his as well, and plus, I'm sure I've also seen him in some of his other work at some point. Seeing this in the theater as a teen would have seriously been a treat. That's awesome, and LOL, I wish I could have been there for the Large Marge reaction then. :)
4:29 - by the way, this piece of music (by Danny Elfman) is called "Breakfast Machine". It's the best! (And I think you were trying to think of "Rube Goldberg Machine". Rube Goldberg was a cartoonist who drew cartoons of those overly complicated machines that performed basic tasks like adding salt to a plate of eggs or something like that.)
There was a meme called the blue ball machine that used a tiled animated gif of a blue ball moving machine with the breakfast machine playing in the background. It originated on YTMND.
aw, yay! I love The Goonies, and its' awesome you say that because that is the exact reason Data is my favorite character in the movie. :) I love the actor Ke huy Quan is back working in movies!
YES! That's it! Exactly what I was trying to think of. Thank you!!! Also, nice! Danny Elfman is always so creative and this movie was no different. That piece in particular has been in my head for a few days. haha. I appreciate all the info! :D
Kid in 85 or 86. I always loved the giant tub scene! Fast forward to 1998 I was riding my bike home from Wendy's @ 2 am I saw 👀 smoke and flickering from a pet shop, I tried to kick the door 🚪 in and ram it w/shoulder, no luck I was wimpy then ! A 6'4" tattooed guy stopped we did it together, flames came out, he looked at me, I at him. Are you going inside? Are you? Then he says "No" and "Ahhhhh 🐍 Snakes" rolling his eyes in his best Pee Wee Voice and we crossed the street....
"It's like unraveling a big cable knit sweater that someone keeps knitting! And knitting! And knitting!" Pee-Wee losing his mind is the best part for sure. I love how dark Big Adventure gets before building to an insanely whimsical climax.
I think that Pee Wee's aversion to Dottie's affection was meant to appeal to young children. As a young boy I hated (pretended to) hate the advances of girls. I think Pee Wee's behaviour reflects that of a young child so this is a natural reaction from him.
That makes SO MUCH SENSE. It seems obvious once you say it. haha Thank you! I really enjoy his character so, so much more than I thought I would! He portrays him so well. Very enjoyable.
@@AngelGroves I saw Pee Wee's Big Adventure when I was 7 years old so I've had a lot of time to reflect on its meaning lol. For me it is one of those very special childhood movies that holds up so well. There are so few reactions to the film so I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Another reviewer reflected on how she was totally crushing 😍 on him and they were voicing it over with more "adult lines" and it was funny and that seemed Natural too.... 😄 both were funny because as an adult you can laugh at what an ass he was too because you didn't realize as a kid, I mean you knew 😉 but you didn't KNOW.
Fun fact: Paul Reubens and the actress who plays the waitress reunited on the set of Batman Returns (another Tim Burton) as the parents of The Penguin.
What...what...WHAT?!? I have seen that movie SO many times. It's my favorite Batman movie. Michelle Pfieffer is so epic. I cannot believe I didn't know that was him in it...thank you for sharing this! And the waitress is the mom? I'm literally going to re-watch it later. Too cool.
In honor of Paul Rubens passing Both the Alamo museum as well as the Dinosaur museum both posted tributes to "Pee Wee" The museum had their T-rex painted to look like he was wearing Pee Wees suit.
Oh my gosh...I didn't even notice it next door to the bike shop! I was so focused on the colors of the bike shop sign. I'm happy you pointed that out. Nostalgic. :)
He really IS like the original Buddy the Elf, never thought about that. I worked in a video rental store when this came out and the scene where Large Marge changes format in the truck cab, the video people in the store kept playing that section over and over again. It was on the TV system hanging on the wall of the store
I think the term you were searching for is a Rube Goldberg machine. It's named after a cartoonist whose specialty was depicting unnecessarily complicated devices for doing very simple things.
Paul Reubens started out as a comedian and Pee Wee was a crazy character he made up, but it was an adult, raunchy character. But as the character got famous he was tweaked and toned down for kids, that's why Pee Wee has an underlying adult humor. Not as naughty as he originally was, obviously, but you can still get a glimpse of the old character underneath it all. Great reaction, Angel! Your reactions are like no other.
When describing Pee-Wee no one does it better than himself. "There are things about me you wouldn't understand, things you couldn't understand, things you SHOULDN'T understand."
I definitely grew up with this and still get a real kick out of it. Pee-Wee was really part of my childhood zeitgeist. And James Brolin is the father of Thanos (Josh Brolin) :)
I wish I had grown up with it; that is awesome you did! :) Also, that is why he looks so familiar...plus, I just googled him and he looks familiar older as well, so I might have seen him in other things too. That's really cool. thank you!
James Brolin was on the TV shows Marcus Welby M.D. in the 70’s and Hotel in the 80’s. He was a big heartthrob back then. He’s probably best known to modern audiences for his over-the-top performance as the freaked-out father in the original Amityville Horror. He’s also the father of the famous actor, Josh Brolin (who was in Goonies and No Country For Old Men, among many other things), and has been married to Barbra Streisand since the late-90’s.
As a kid, the Large Marge scene was my favorite scene in the whole movie. My best friend and I would crack up and literally roll on the floor laughing. Never scared me in the slightest haha. And Tequila, that was just too good that dance scene.
When I was a kid, I used to rewind that scene over and over to see the tongue jump around, frame by frame. For some reason, this was hilarious to me. I'm glad others got a kick out of it too
His dance is AMAZING. There are parts in this movie that on paper would seem annoying, but the way he does it is just perfect. I loved that scene. lol And nice! I love you loved Large Marge as a kid...you were brave! hahaha Thank you for the comment! :)
@@AngelGroves But she was only Babe in the sequel. Babe was played by Christine Cavanaugh in the original movie. Her other roles include...Chuckie from Rugrats. :) So Babe's two voice actors were also on Rugrats.
I'd driven all night...( after working a swing-shift...)...from northern CA to South Lake Tahoe. It was my 30th birthday & I wanted to get my weekend started. There were still a few hours to kill, before I could check in to my room...so I decided to spend them at the early matinee. I was literally the ONLY one in the theater. I believe it was opening day. Had a couple of McDonald's hamburgers in my jacket pocket as I settled into my seat. I enjoyed the film. In fact, In 2002 I bought myself a 1955 retro Schwinn bicycle, because it sort of reminded me of Pee Wee's bike. Still have it, but that thing weighs 50 lbs.
I LOVE this!! Thank you for sharing! Omg. Wow. I can just picture it/ imagine going into the matinee by myself and seeing it before my 30th bday. That would have been epic. Also, hell yes to the McDonald's hamburgers in your pocket. 😀 And the fact you got a Schwinn bike layer on, bc of that, is totally understandable. I'd have gotten one as well. Seriously love this! Very cool.
I was seven years old when this was released. My best friend and I watched on VHS many times. This movie arrived at the perfect time in our lives and when I watch it now I can't help but smile and yet simultaneously I am melancholy with thoughts of how quickly childhood comes to an end.
True, time really does fly, but I'm happy we all have our movies (like this was for you) that we put on over and over and can now watch again. I love that it came at the perfect time in your lives. 🙂 Thank you for sharing that! 🤍
I think what is appealing about the story is shows the importance of friends (think of everyone who came together to support each other in different ways throughtout the film) as well as Pee Wee's Zen mindset: he is able to see beauty in things most people ignore. On another note, I just realized James Brolin (who plays P.W. in the movie) is Josh Brolin's (The Goonies) father.
His 80s Saturday Morning show, Pee Wee's Play House... is kinda like this but even more manic and insane. ShoutFactory recently remastered that whole show in HD (becusse luckily it was shot on film) and it looks absolutley gorgeous. That show was a HUUUUGE deal in the mid to late 80s.
Oh, Wow, thats really cool they were able to remaster it in HD! I need to check it out soon. And I had no idea how big the show was until reading y'all's comments. That's awesome; thanks for sharing!
"I know her voice" - Elizabeth Daily is an American actress and singer from Los Angeles, California known for her roles as Buttercup from The Powerpuff Girls, Tommy Pickles from Rugrats, Babe from Babe: Pig in the City, Bamm Bamm from Fruity Pebbles commercials, Young Mumble from Happy Feet, Dottie from Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, Rudy from ChalkZone and Candy from The Devil's Rejects.
The kid at 41:10, you were right. That's the actor Jason Hervey who played Wayne Arnold, Kevin Arnold's brother in The Wonder Years. Another classic show. This was Tim Burton's first full feature length movie that he directed. I grew up watching this movie as a kid back then. Seen this movie a million times.
Oh cooool. Okay, I'm proud of myself for actually recognizing him. Thanks! And what?? this was his first feature length film? Very awesome. I don't blame you for watching this so much...it would have been the same for me. I'm glad I saw it now, but I definitely missed out as a kid. :)
I got to see this in the theater when I was kid, I loved it. You should watch the movie "BETTER OFF DEAD". Elizabeth Daily (Dottie) sings the title song at the dance.
First, that is so cool; I would have loved to have seen it in the theaters as a kid! I can only imagine how much fun it was to see all his stuff on the big screen. :) Second, thank you for that suggestion! I really, really like her and would love to see more of her stuff besides this (and Rugrats haha).
Saw this when i was 7 years old in the early 90s , it was like watching a dream come true. Looking back now, maybe it's why i have my house decorated the why i do. It's as if i was always trying to recreate this house
Gen X teen in the 80's and we all thought this movie was hysterical! Pee Wee's kitchen, Large Marge, and the Tequila dance were favorite parts. James Brolin starred in the original Amityville Horror and is now married to Barbara Streisand. Elizabeth Daily can also be found in Valley Girl (starring a young, HOT Nicholas Cage), Better Off Dead, and as the voice of Tommy Pickles in Rugrats.
I remember seeing this in the theater when it came out and someone sitting in the back COULD NOT STOP LAUGHING during the whole opening/waking up sequence at the beginning. I mean, that kind of "laughing so hard you can't breath" type of laughing. And we all started laughing at HIM - it was hilarious. By the way, his Saturday morning TV show aired when I was in college - and I remember it was extremely popular with a bunch of my friends at the time. (And, fun fact, that's Cyndi Lauper's (uncredited) voice singing the theme song: ua-cam.com/video/UsmFg7CD1Pg/v-deo.html ) You might like to check out the evolution of the Pee-wee Herman character - I remember he started as a live stage show, "The Pee-wee Herman Show". HBO taped a live performance and showed it as a comedy special. I think "Pee-wee's Big Adventure" came next. And then there was the Saturday morning kids' show "Pee-wee's Playhouse". Later there was another movie "Big Top Pee-wee". I think you can find all of those iterations on DVD (I don't know about streaming).
Oh my gosh, nice; thank you for that info. I definitely want to check out the evolution of him. He is way more interesting than I thought and it will be cool to learn more. Perfect! Oh wow, I'm glad the person in the theater was at least amusing and everyone could laugh at him and not be annoyed...and it least it's a comedy. When I saw the first hobbit movie in theaters, during the opening when Bilbo is talking about his relatives, a member of the audience could not stop laughing and it was extremely annoying. :O But your story is so much better! I love everyone had a good laugh! :D You'll always remember that, I'm sure. lol Also, it's cool the show aired when you were in college; I can imagine with how the movie is, the show is probably pretty out there at times and why it wouldn be popular with people. I'll be checking it out too. Thanks for sharing your stories. My favorite thing is to hear about other people's experiences with the movie. Love it! And thanks again for the info.
@@AngelGroves I also recall he made several very funny appearances on the David Letterman show. I think you can find those on UA-cam. He also appeared as a vampire in the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie (I mean, the actor Paul Reubens, not in his "Pee-wee Herman" persona). And if you continue to delve into Pee-Wee Herman's history...well, he's also known for being arrested for...well, I'll let you discover that on your own...
So, I actually did remember the arrest...it's one of the few things I knew before going into the movie. Just the fact it was a theater and what he was doing...but I'm glad i watched this movie! lol Really great. And nice, I need to check out his Letterman appearances as well for sure. Thank you! That's so cool; I just read someone else's comment who was saying he was in Buffy...I have seen that movie A LOT and cannot believe I didn't recognize him.. or just forgot bc it has been a while. Thanks again!
My first memory of Pee-Wee was on an HBO comedy special that was perfrmed on-stage in 1981, called "The Pee-Wee Herman Show". Pee-Wee was very childlike and innocent, but several of the other players who appeared made quite risque jokes that went over Pee-Wee's head, which was part of the fun. It was loosely inspired by the live-audience children's shows of the 1950s, and featured such beloved '80s personalities as Edie McClurg and Phil Hartman.
E.G. Daily plays Dottie. You may not recognize her face, but you'll recognize her voice! She voiced Tommy Pickles on the Rugrats as well as Buttercup on the original Powerpuff Girls!
"I know you are but what am I" might be cringe, but that shit had me laughing like crazy when I was 6. Large Marge traumatized me as a child. This is Tim Burton's first feature length film and the DVD commentary is entertaining, it's Paul Reubens and Tim Burton. I used to love Pee-wee's Playhouse too. I think I've seen like one other person on youtube reacting to this movie, so that's an instant sub from me.
Oh, wow, that's so cool you saw it then! And yeah; I can only imagine! That's like how parts of Drop Dead Fred freaked me out when I saw it at 3 years old...but I still loved it. "Large Marge" would have seriously freaked me out, though.
I was a little kid when Pee-Wee was a big deal. His show "Pee-Wee's Playhouse" was addictive. Goofy a bit of a rebel and generally written for kids in a fun way. It was a great show for it's time and i loved the movie when it came out.
James Brolin got his start on a show called Marcus Welby in the early 70's as a young doctor. He got really famous because of his good looks. His son, Josh Brolin was the older brother in the Goonie's, and was the younger version of the special agent, K in Men in Black 3. He then went on to play Thanos in the Avengers Endgame, and Guardians of the Galaxy
The term you're looking for at the beginning of the reaction is "Rube Goldberg Machine." And the actor playing P.W. Herman in the drive-in movie is James Brolin. He was a big star in the 70s and 80s. He is also the father of actor Josh Brolin, who played the older brother in The Goonies and who also played Thanos in the Marvel movies.
yup saw this as a kid. pee-wee's playhouse (tv show) exploded with this movie. Large Marge scared me when I was younger lol. I havn't seen this for a long time but for some reason it's very easy to remember so much from this movie. His other movie thou Big Top PeeWee I don't remember a thing from it.
Angel, you are THE biggest dork in THE best possible way. To see your expressions as you were experiencing the opening sequences were absolutely priceless! And I paused just after he revealed his bicycle...may have more comments ensuing. :)
Saw this in the theater at the age of 12 when it came out. Paul Reubens developed the character of Pee Wee while in the LA based comedy troupe The Groundlings. He would perform as the character onstage at comedy clubs and had some bit parts in movies. He had an HBO special in 1981 The Pee Wee Herman Show (which had a bit more of an adult flavor). Then the movie in '85, and the tv show Pee Wee's Playhouse ran from 1986-1990.
I had NO idea! That is so neat. And the fact you saw it at 12 in the theaters in terrific. That would have been a great age to see it! Thanks for sharing the info! I'm learning a lot about him as a character.
@@AngelGroves This is kind of a long clip (12 min) but you can see how good Paul was at stand-up while in character. This was from 1980. Early on he's getting laughs, but the audience isn't really sure what to make of him. At about 2:00 minutes he "shushes" the crowd..and he owns them at that point. Then at about 5:00 a lady who's laughing loud is distracting the audience- he makes her part of the act and regains control. Just amazing. ua-cam.com/video/2YRJEN5OsP4/v-deo.html
I grew up watching this movie. And I always wanted to visit the Alamo and the dinosaur truck stop as a result of it. Years later I finally got to see the dinosaurs (in the Marine Corps of all places) when I was stationed in Camp Pendleton. The truck stop (in Cabazon) was along the route we traveled during our Humvee training. I also got to see the Alamo when my sister graduated from Air Force basic training.
AHHHH. So horrid! haha I've heard that so long and now I'm wondering did it actually come from this?? or were they just saying it because it was the ting to say at the time already. lol
@@AngelGroves Paul Reubens was just utilizing that "kinder care playground" banter with which we've all dealt and parried. Also, James Brolin(Thanos' dad) and Morgan Fairchild were the king and queen of mini-series/TV movies/night time soaps in the roles of the "beautiful people" and the audience HOWLED when they appeared as "Pee Wee" and "Dottie." From time to time, I still do the "Paging Mister Herman. You have a telephone call in the lobby," and "I say we let 'em go..."
I think the kind of machine featured in this movie that incorporates a lot of convoluted mechanics to perform a simple task is called a Rube Goldberg machine.
Peewee''s brief time with Simone was existential. Meeting a nice stranger yearning for a big change in her life. A dream. Peewee helped her make it happen. Au revoir, Simone.
The dinosaur park scene at a Major Impact on me as a kid. It stuck so well in my mind that I for a Time believed that I had gone to that Park with my family on vacation and was always upset that I can never find the pictures we took. Of course we never went there so was all just a weird Mandela effect dream after watching this movie
I LOVE this comment! I used to do things like that as well, as a kid, from certain movies I watched so much. That is neat you did it with the dinosaur park scene. I can see why. I think those dinosaurs are one of the coolest "real" parts of the movie...they're giant AND you can go inside them and see out the mouth? If I had seen that as as kid, it would have stuck in my brain a lot as well. Thanks for sharing this. :)
@@AngelGroves pretty sure it was a real Park in Alberta Canada which is part of why I kept getting it mixed up in my head cuz I would see pictures of other family members who had gone to the park and I was wondering where our pictures were since I was certain we had gone there with them
This movie was my everything when I was 7 years old. I could laugh and talk like Pee Wee, I quoted the movie constantly, I could do all of the bike stunts, I was Pee Wee for Halloween, and I could do the entire Tequila dance. My favorite character other than Pee Wee was Francis. My sister and I would recreate their argument in front of the house. We took the "I know you are, but what am I" sequence to new heights of annoying. Good memories ...
Your comment made me smile SO MUCH! I love reading/ hearing stuff like this. That makes me so happy. I can picture this movie having that affect on me as a kid, and on others and I love you sharing how it did that for you and your sis. I have many movies that were the same for me, and this one is really creative and fun so I see why it was so great for you. You were him for Halloween? That is AWESOME! lol And do the dance? very nice. hahaha. I love how much you loved it! Oh wow, if my sister and I had done that, I think my mom couldn't have taken it! that's great you two could do the whole thing. lol thank you for sharing this!
@@AngelGroves You're very welcome. This reaction made me smile as well. Keep up the good work! Full disclosure ... I *may* have done the Tequila dance at a wedding reception ... recently ;)
I was 12 when I first saw this and yeah, Large Marge scared me. The woman who played Dottie was later the voice of Tommy Pickles in The Rugrats. I'm sure that's where you recognized her from.
Paul Reubens was a night club stand-up comedian who invented the character "Pee Wee Herman" as a raunchy, adult-themed parody of children's entertainers. Then a talent agent saw his stand-up act one night and thought he could make "Pee Wee Herman" an actual children's entertainer. So he convinced Reubens to cut out the tongue-in-cheek adult-themed jokes and play Pee Wee straight, as well as to take on the persona of the character in all public appearances. And the money was right, so he agreed. So just like Andrew Silverstein became "Andrew Dice Clay" and Daniel Whitney became "Larry the Cable Guy," Paul Reubens became "Pee Wee Herman." And people who only ever knew him as Pee Wee Herman -- like me, before I learned all of this -- were shocked to find out that he was once a very raunchy, adult-themed stand-up comedian. And it also makes the fact that he was later busted for indecent exposure in a porno theater and possession of kiddie porn a lot more easy to digest.
I think the dinosaurs were lit up with lights at dark of a similar color that made the green ones look way more green and the red ones way more red & then after dawn they turned them off so when he & Simone came out in the daylight the dinos just looked a lot more plain. You weren't crazy. I remember thinking something similar the first few times I watched this movie too..Lol.
I think I first saw this movie when I was 5, and was obsessed!. Large Marge terrified me so much, though, that I would leave the room when Pee Wee climbed into the truck. 😂Last summer I bought a red 50's reproduction bike at a yard sale simply because it reminded me of Pee Wee's bike without all the cool gadgets. I had to have it! Also, I love that you know Pee Wee from the reference in Overboard! Another one of my favorites. If you haven't seen The Jerk with Steve Martin, I recommend it for a similar dose of silliness. 😊
Pee Wee is an interesting character, his original form was in a stand up comedy act Paul did with just a bunch of props on a black stage, and the gag was that it was full of raunchy adult humor but delivered by an innocent child character who himself was unaware of the adult implications of his jokes. From that it morphed into a more genuine children's program on tv, Pee Wee's Playhouse, where he introduced cartoons and such and lived with animated things like living chairs and clocks. The movie Pee Wee is somewhere in between, the most appealing version to all ages, as they ride the line between the adult and child worlds.
A "Rube Goldberg" machine / device is a complicated, chain-reaction type of contraption designed to perform a simple task in an indirect and overly complicated way.
Don Ameche , who played Mortimer, didn’t want to swear on camera when Randolph was having chest pains. He agreed to do it once and only once. If they didn’t catch it right, there wouldn’t be another one.
THAT IS IT! People were telling me he was his father, and I was thinking yes, that's definitely why he looks familiar, but I've 100% seen the original Amityville Horror multiple times and so that totally makes sense why he REALLY looked familiar. I also think I've seen him in something in later years. Thanks for the info!
OMFG I’m so happy to see that you’ve done a reaction to Pee Wee’s Big Adventure!!! It’s such an underrated Tim Burton film….& his directorial debut for a feature film. I’ve loved this film since I first saw it. There’s two sequels Big Top Pee Wee & Pee Wee Herman’s Big Holiday, which are worth checking out.
*Pee-wee Herman* had a child show called *Pee-wee's Playhouse.* Sadly his career was destroyed cuz he was caught in a Rated X movie theater pre-internet. That's not a place you want to be caught in when you're hosting a kids TV show every Saturday morning
I actually do remember that. It's one of the few things I did know about him going into the movie. I'm glad I didn't let it influence me from watching this, but yeah that definitely sucks. :/ As you said, not something you want when you're hosting a kids' show.
This was Tim Burton's first directorial work, watching this, you see why his later movies like Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, etc. seemed so familiar. All the Tim Burton tropes are front and center here.
I love this movie, I was working at a movie theater when it first came out. Another movie you should watch that has Paul Reubens in it is "Mystery Men", a satirical super hero movie from 1999 starring Ben Stiller. Paul Reubens plays "the Spleen".
The actors of Simone and Pee-Wee teamed up again with Tim Burton and Danny Elfman, in the opening scenes of "Batman Returns" (1989) as the well-to-do Cobblepot family.
Did you get to watch this as a kid/ grow up with it? I wish I had! Let me know, and let me know your favorite characters in the movie (besides Pee-wee) Mine are Speck and Dottie...and Mickey!!
My fav part as a kid was "Tell 'em Large Marge sent ya"
I would have been six when it came out, but I don't remember seeing it in the theater. I know I saw it a ton as a kid though, so they must have played it on cable regularly or we bought the vhs
I totally watched this growing up. I normally don't have any problem with clowns but these ones spooked me, and Large Marge too.
I will never forget that quote. lol
nice. That's how I used to watch all my movies too. :) VHS or cable...well, I guess we all did. lol Thank you for sharing!
Rest In Peace Pee Wee.
I love this movie, his tv show, and his cameos in the Cheech and Chong movies.
R.I.P. peewee.

this weird little movie is one my favorite top 10 of all time easy
The sound he makes when he knocks the bikes over is great.
As a Texan, I love the San Antonio scene.
I got in trouble for doing it.
James Brolin was a very well known actor of the 70's & 80's. His son is actor Josh Brolin. They look a little like each other. Maybe that's why he looked familiar? I saw this movie in the theatre as a teen. EVERYBODY screamed during the Large Marge face surprise!
In Westworld (the movie) James Brolin looks just like Christian Bale
Ohhhh, yep that it absolutely why he looked so familiar...Josh looks so much like him! And why his name sounded familiar. It sounds so similar to his as well, and plus, I'm sure I've also seen him in some of his other work at some point. Seeing this in the theater as a teen would have seriously been a treat. That's awesome, and LOL, I wish I could have been there for the Large Marge reaction then. :)

@@AngelGroves I went back to see it a 2nd time with my friends just to experience the crowd reaction again! 😄

Pee-Wee is right. It’s important for people to really consider their big buts, and learn to put it behind them.
I had the biggest crush on Elizabeth Daily when this movie came out. Still do. Lol
Kid in 85 or 86. I always loved the giant tub scene!

"It's like unraveling a big cable knit sweater that someone keeps knitting! And knitting! And knitting!"
Pee-Wee losing his mind is the best part for sure.
Lol which reactor was that, I mean I don’t blame them, the “Tequila” bar dance is pure machismo.
Large Marge was terrifying as a kid.
I bet! She was terrifying even before she changed her face...I can only imagine seeing her as a kid!
This use to come on The Disney Channel back in the day, and it was very creepy.
@@AngelGrovesI was 7 years old when this came on
Me too and the clown dream terrified me
Fun fact: Paul Reubens and the actress who plays the waitress reunited on the set of Batman Returns (another Tim Burton) as the parents of The Penguin.
Too cool.
@@AngelGroves Yep her name is Diane Salinger. I had to look it up to be sure and she is. Thanks for all the great content. Keep it up.
In honor of Paul Rubens passing Both the Alamo museum as well as the Dinosaur museum both posted tributes to "Pee Wee"
The museum had their T-rex painted to look like he was wearing Pee Wees suit.
I loved PeeWee as a kid and as an adult still enjoy him. May Paul Reubens rest in peace. Thank you for the comedy memories.
13:56 Oh wow, a Woolworth's. I haven't seen one of those in decades
The big dinosaurs in the movie were always a greenish color at night they just had colored LED lights shining on them.
I visited there
The clown part gives me nightmare when i was a kid lol
RIP Pee-Wee
When describing Pee-Wee no one does it better than himself. "There are things about me you wouldn't understand, things you couldn't understand, things you SHOULDN'T understand."
Dude....right?!? SO PERFECT! Love this comment. :)
I definitely grew up with this and still get a real kick out of it. Pee-Wee was really part of my childhood zeitgeist.
And James Brolin is the father of Thanos (Josh Brolin) :)
And Barbra Streisand's hubby.
I let out a scream when I read this...that's her hubby?!? Awesome. I love her!
I wish I had grown up with it; that is awesome you did! :)
Also, that is why he looks so familiar...plus, I just googled him and he looks familiar older as well, so I might have seen him in other things too.
Tim Burton’s first film that put him on the map as a director. This was a huge hit in the 80’s.
That is so neat.
And I bet Disney started regretted firing him.
Fun fact, pee wee and Simone were the penguins' parents in Batman Returns.
Dottie is played by Elisabeth Daily who now does voice acting. She voiced Tommy on Rugrats
Also Babe the Pig from Babe.
That is so awesome! Rugrats is definitely where I've heard her!!! :)
Oh my gosh! What? She is Babe as well? Awww... I never knew that! I love Babe and love to quote the first movie. :)
@@AngelGroves and a Powerpuff Girl. She is mostly famous as a voice actress.
@@AngelGroves But she was only Babe in the sequel. Babe was played by Christine Cavanaugh in the original movie. Her other roles include...Chuckie from Rugrats. :) So Babe's two voice actors were also on Rugrats.
Pee wees bike sold at auction for $36,600
WOAH. Well, I understand why! That's awesome.
Very cool.
I've been to The Alamo. Sadly it's basically nothing but a gift shop these days.
Thank you for sharing that!

Dottie is Tommy Pickles from Rugrats.
Oh, "Better Off Dead" is priceless! I can't tell you how many of those lines got repeated among my peer-group in high-school.
(And, fun fact, that's Cyndi Lauper's (uncredited) voice singing the theme song: ua-cam.com/video/UsmFg7CD1Pg/v-deo.html )
You might like to check out the evolution of the Pee-wee Herman character - I remember he started as a live stage show, "The Pee-wee Herman Show".
Yup it was popular with teens and college students cause it's fun to smoke weed and watch this goofy cat
:D You'll always remember that, I'm sure. lol
Also, it's cool the show aired when you were in college; I can imagine with how the movie is, the show is probably pretty out there at times and why it wouldn be popular with people.
He was also in at least one Cheech and Chong movie. He played a mental patient.
It was loosely inspired by the live-audience children's shows of the 1950s, and featured such beloved '80s personalities as Edie McClurg and Phil Hartman.
lol your reaction when Pee Wee hissed at those guys in the rain was great!
28:42 That guy was in Beetlejuice. He played the zombie janitor.
OH MY GOSH!!! Thank you for this. Very cool. I love Beetlejuice.
E.G. Daily plays Dottie. You may not recognize her face, but you'll recognize her voice! She voiced Tommy Pickles on the Rugrats as well as Buttercup on the original Powerpuff Girls!
Did you know that Pee Wee had a television series? Pee Wee's Playhouse. It was on for 3-4 years in the 80s.
It was ... different. 😎
Rip pee wee Herman 😢😢🕊🙏
R.I.P Paul Reubens, he'll definitely be missed.
I originally saw this after it premiered on TV in the '80s when I was 3 or 4. The "Large Marge" segment scared the heck out of me.
To answer your question, those elaborate chain reaction machines are called Rube Goldberg machines.
Yeeessss... thank you!!! :)
Personally, I think Mr.Bean (Atkinson) was partly inspired by Peewee.
Had the pleasure to watch this before Paul's talk, just before 2020 lockdown. Such fun.
Oh, NEAT!!!
I grew up in the 80's this was a kid movie staple. Your the first channel I've seen this on. You earned a sub.
The term you're looking for at the beginning of the reaction is "Rube Goldberg Machine."
And the actor playing P.W.
Pee Wee Herman did also have a tv show on for a while, I do remember watching it on Saturdays morning as recovering from a hangover.
Angel, you are THE biggest dork in THE best possible way. To see your expressions as you were experiencing the opening sequences were absolutely priceless! And I paused just after he revealed his bicycle...may have more comments ensuing. :)
Hahaha. Aw, thank you so much!! I can't deny being a dork in any way. That's very true. I love it as well! Lol Thanks again for your comment! 😇
This reaction was all kinds of delightful ^_^ The: wonder you have while watching was truly heart-warming. I love this film forever!!!! Much respect.
Aw, wow; thank you SO much! 😊 This movie really surprised me, in the best ways!
@@AngelGroves You're quite welcome!!! ^_^ Yesss this movie was so much fun!!!!
There it is. The ultimate social media defense. "I know you are, but what am I?"
AHHHH. So horrid! haha I've heard that so long and now I'm wondering did it actually come from this?? or were they just saying it because it was the ting to say at the time already. lol
@@AngelGroves Paul Reubens was just utilizing that "kinder care playground" banter with which we've all dealt and parried.
Also, James Brolin(Thanos' dad) and Morgan Fairchild were the king and queen of mini-series/TV movies/night time soaps in the roles of the "beautiful people" and the audience HOWLED when they appeared as "Pee Wee" and "Dottie."
From time to time, I still do the "Paging Mister Herman. You have a telephone call in the lobby," and "I say we let 'em go..."
I think the kind of machine featured in this movie that incorporates a lot of convoluted mechanics to perform a simple task is called a Rube Goldberg machine.
Saw this in the theater at age 11. Born in '74. Large Marge gave me nightmares for years.
Peewee''s brief time with Simone was existential. Meeting a nice stranger yearning for a big change in her life. A dream. Peewee helped her make it happen. Au revoir, Simone.
Another awesome reaction video, have to say this a unique film. But funny at times,as always angel keep being phenomenal.

Awesome, thank you🙂🙂🙂
You're so welcome!

Full disclosure ... I *may* have done the Tequila dance at a wedding reception ... recently ;)
First time watching your channel. Love the long edit and you are super chill and laid back which is great! Look forward to more!
Nice I wish more people reacted to this movie. One of my all time favorites.
Pee Wee has a Rube Goldberg contraption in his house. :)
I was 8 when this came out and Large Marge terrified me.
James Brolin, father of Josh Brolin, was the star of the original Amityville Horror. Made that's what you recognized
THAT IS IT! People were telling me he was his father, and I was thinking yes, that's definitely why he looks familiar, but I've 100% seen the original Amityville Horror multiple times and so that totally makes sense why he REALLY looked familiar. I also think I've seen him in something in later years. Thanks for the info!
The dinosaurs in the scene of the movie lights up in color only at night.
This is still my favorite Tim Burton movie. Me and my brother got wasted and saw this at the theater, Large Marge damn near made me piss myself 😂
James Brolin's son is Josh (Thanos) Brolin.
:O That's why he looks so familiar, for sure.
The name of the contraption at the beginning is called a Rube Goldberg machine. Another famous movie with one is Back to the Future!!
Boo is so precious!
*Pee-wee Herman* had a child show called *Pee-wee's Playhouse.*
Sadly his career was destroyed cuz he was caught in a Rated X movie theater pre-internet.
That place with the dinosaurs is at a truck stop on 1-10 on the way to Palm Springs in California. I've been there in the past.
Dottie did several cartoon voices throughout the 90s
The actors of Simone and Pee-Wee teamed up again with Tim Burton and Danny Elfman, in the opening scenes of "Batman Returns" (1989) as the well-to-do Cobblepot family.
