My Dobby started making a “nest”3 days before my son arrived and had a phantom pregnancy when he arrived home, if someone knocked on the door she would stand in his bedroom door protecting him, they were lifetime friends
We grew up with a dobie - we were 9/10ish when he arrived as a puppy. He was a fantastic boy and very gentle with us - he never ever charged around us or knocked us over etc unlike certain breeds that should never be around kids full stop. He was also great with our kitty - our kitty was a proud Siamese boy and he would steal the dobie’s bed. Of course our dobie boy was so polite he’d squeeze around the kitty and they’d settle for sharing lol.
My dobie wasn't around many children at all. However, (and i always watched her) I had a party one time and one of my great nephews "fell" on the ground (he wasn't even 2 yet) she didn't really know him but she kept circling around him as to protect him.....I went over and picked him up and she couldn't have been happier!! She was the best!!! Miss her so much!!!
I don't mean to bore you...I did comment on another of your videos about how many Dobermans I was raised around and also had in my own home. I'm now 72. When I was a toddler, two of our Dobermans were my "babysitter". My mom would put me out on a blanket with one dog on opposite corners of the blanket. The dogs would not allow me to venture off. They would pull me back to the blanket when I tried. The same two taught me how to walk. I would grab each my the nap of the neck, they would help me stand and I would take steps with them. They are an incredible breed!!
Hi - We're thinking about getting a Doberman, and we think grandkids will be on the cards in the next few years. Did you have any issues/concerns with your Doberman only seeing the grandkids sometimes (I'm assuming the grandkids don't live you with you fulltime). Just wondering if the dog-child bond still kicks when the child is not around all the time. Thanks
@@wordstunts Our grandchildren live 1/2 hour away, so our dog sees them often. You could always just introduce your dog to various children/situations if yours are not close by. I always supervise our dog with the kids, she is very friendly but still it is the smart thing to do.
I have a 7 year old niece who grew up with my 2.5 year old fawn service dobie. They are inseparable! However, she’s way better with him now than she was when he first came home. Better with older kids for sure!
For babies & toddlers, socialization & supervision is extremely important. Older children are more behave & easier to train when it comes to how to behave with Dobermans (depending on how old the older kids are).
I got my 2nd Doberman who was 8 weeks old when my son was approximately 1 year old. Those 2 were inseparable!!! She would get in the bathtub with him every time he took a bath. She'd get into the pool lake etc with him. I never ever worried about him when she was around. She protected all of us

My doberman Marley is about 7 months old, and she has been with my boys since she was 8 weeks old. They are always around each other, last night they were in their tent and they told me im not invited😂
I have a 5 month old female and my kids are 10 and 13 and she is very protective of myself and the kids and loves to cuddle she is a amazing mix of protective and loving
I saw 2 very cool behaviors from my girl Dobie when my nephew was a baby. #1. My Dobie would sit up at attention like a guard at the entrance of the bathroom whenever my sister would bathe my baby nephew in the bathtub. She was like an Imperial Guard. #2. She would, ☝🏻on her own initiative, leave the house without permission , and jump into the van with my sister and my nephew and lick his face whenever they would drive away, and she made the most heart-crunching, heart-breaking cry whenever I wrangled her out of the van back into the back yard away from "her baby." It broke my heart, really. She wanted to escort "her baby." She only made that cry when we took her away from "her baby."
My female doberman was just like this with my kids & she was 5 when I had my first child. When my husband worked out of town a lot & I would find her in the hall between the bedrooms guarding! I would try to make her come back to her bed in my room but she would end up right back in the hallway!! We have lost her years ago & terribly miss her everyday. We now have a male & I have to say he is so goofy compared to her!! I Love Dobermans!!!💜
Very informative John. Just like any kind animal, kids of any age need to be taught how to respect and act around animals and be kind. Parent need to be aware of this from the beginning. It's a bit more work. Had Dobermans before my kids came along and it was so worth it to see them growing up together. ❤
Yes, totally agree with you, April!! It's nice when you're able to get your Doberman to train up before children come along. Thank you for giving that advice!
One time in the evening when it was dark outside somebody must have walked around our house. My doberman suddenly looked out of the window (into the dark) and growled in a way I never heard it before.
Go for a walk with family and friends say at Christmas and the Doberman will spend it's time running from the front the 'pack' looking for danger then run to the back of the pack again looking for anything odd. It want you to stay together and protect you. Even if with friends the dobe has not met before they are included and become part of the protected pack. Doberman LOVE this - it's what they were meant to do.
i have a 4 year old girl and she just recently met a baby. she was very scared at first because it was a human that doesn’t walk or talk. she soon became more comfortable with the baby. as the baby would feed her lol. but she is still very protective when i take the baby. when i watch the baby at my house i have to keep her away just in case she gets too jealous.
I have a 3 year old daughter and a 8 month old Doberman, and they are great, at first on bittig stage all was a bit of fear and caution, but now... They are the best. The only thing is that I have to keep watching Dobby not no wake up her too early!
