Finally! Some commentary! Your comments were awesome to hear & you have a great narrative voice. Maybe as you get more comfortable doing these, you can tell us more. I don't the 1st thing about horses, or the tools. Is the amount of hoof you cut off the same for all four hooves? I always wondered how to know. What is the frog? What does that do? Why do you hook your round knife at the top of that frog? How do you know when to stop at the top of the hoof ( on he bottom ) is that bone on the back? Can you trim that? What is the benefit of using a clipped shoe to a none-clipped one? Is there a breed of horse that can only use a clip & why. Sorry to ask so many questions. I think what you do is amazing. It's kind of like a lost art. I hope you talk more in your videos. You have such talent For this! Thank u fot sharing what you do.

I worked in stables and have always wanted to ask a farrier a question, never did in case I sounded like an idiot. Now behind a keyboard I’m asking! Is there a particular breed of horses that is a dream/nightmare to shoe? I’m aware that heavy draught type horses are harder to shoe, but I mean, are particular breeds prone to having hoofs that’s a nightmare/dream to work with.
Really great to have the commentary so we can follow what you are doing and learn more about the work of a farrier! Next time it would also be great to have the commentary when you hammer the shoe, always wondered what you were doing!
By far the best video!!! The only thing that messed it up a little bit was the lighting wasn’t so good and it looked too dark and dim. Other than that I loved it!!

Very professional .Side note .In grade school they brought this large "computer" card sorter .We all filled out cards and it addended our grades in to the card , fed it in to computer and card came back with suggested career choices . One of mine was blacksmith . Some times I think maybe I should have gone that rout .(Was about 1958)

alright! all 4 legs done for me! i watched one in Facebook, i wanted to see more so i went to UA-cam and watched the first one i could find, then from suggestions i picked one with the biggest hoof and now i watched this one, which gave explanations. for 4 hoof restoration videos. so, 4 legs done :3
Love the commentary thank you! I have tons of questions that are probably a duh! for everyone else but….do you trim the foot differently depending on the type of work/activity the horse mostly does? Does it also depend on the environment they are in - very wet vs arid? Why is it important to periodically shave down underside of foot - is it just to get a proper fit for new shoe or is there more to it than that? You mentioned the nail should only hit outside of foot - What happens if it goes further in interior? Do they need to be a certain age before you start this process, or when they are young and still growing do you take a different approach? The horses seem very patient through the whole process, are there some that just don’t want to be standing around with you hammering and cutting - especially those that may not be used to the routine? I have a few more but I’ll stop. 🫤 I got called into principals office 3 times in my life - one was because my science teacher thought I was disturbing class with my incessant questions. The other 2Xs I had it coming 😉

Well if the horse could feel it he wouldn't be hunched over a hoof explaining to you step by step what he's doing ...he'd be laid out on the ground unconcious.
No, it does not hurt when it's done properly. It's a bit like clipping your nails. As long as you only trim the white part of your nails it's fine. If you hit the pink part is where it hurts. The ferrier can tell by the feel of the hoof if he is near the life part where blood still runs through. Hope that helps.
