We currently live outside San Diego and we go up to the Sierra on a fairly regular basis. We normally take Hwy395 because we find it much more interesting than I-5 or Hwy99 through the central valley.

I was on highway 395 and I saw multiple places where this highway should have a middle divider since it’s mostly an undivided highway. This road needs to have a divider in the middle because I’ve seen people cross over the broken yellow line to pass other traffic or make a turn on to one of the cross streets since this road has cross traffic intersections in certain spots. I don’t think they’re gonna put a center divider on this road since not too many people travel the 395.

I love the 395. Until I met my now closest of dearest friends who live in Gardnerville NV I had never heard of the Owens valley and the eastern sierras. Then I started driving from Ventura to GV every year in the summer and slowly came to love this place as I began stopping here snd there along the way and coming to see its incredible beauty. If I can’t go every year I really ache for it. So much to do if you love outdoor activities. Thanks for posting about this lovely place

You have become my UA-cam travel avatar. I live in the midwest so opportunities to get West are infrequent and I treasure every moment when I am there. Thanks for taking us to so many great places. You are young so, you can enjoy travel adventures for many years to come and your heart is in the right place. The #1-3 items on most retirees bucket list is "1. Travel, #2. Travel, and #3. Travel More. Keep 'em coming.

I love the drive on 395. I also love that's so underrated, because no traffic, no crowds.

Hi Josh, is that museum with the labyrinth in Randsberg? I can't seem to find it on the map, doing some trip planning. Thanks

Fun to look back at this - just did the 395 from t Klamath area / somewhere in NoCal to somewhere in SoCal... ummmm where it connects with the 14? We did June Lake, Mono Lake, Lee Vining, a bit of Mammoth a few other awesome spots. Great to watch your version!

I have been driving the 395 for years from LA to Carson city where my dearest friends live and love this road. It’s def the most under appreciated place in CA. But it’s spectacular. For history, for beauty, for variety, for jaw dropping views, for just plain great things to do in nature! What other hwy gives you access to the highest and lowest spots in the US? The 395! The oldest trees, the largest trees in the world (bristlecone and sequoia): the 395. Hot springs, hiking, skiing, waterfalls, lakes, streams, crazy rock formations like fossil falls and the Alabama hills. History like manzanita, the film museum in lone pine, towns like independence and Bridgeport and Randsburg and the ghost town of Bodie . Amazing food like Whoa Nellie Deli in Lee Vining or Schats in Bishop. I could go on and on. Glad you are doing something to get people out to this amazing part of the world, just as long as it doesn’t become another Yosemite traffic jam in summer kind of thing. But it’s so vast that I don’t think it could. Thanks for posting

Josh, after watching this video last year, I finally made the trip myself this past weekend (from LA to Mammoth Lakes for camping). Along the way, visited Manzanar and the museum of Western Film History. One of my all time favorite road trips. Thanks for sharing!

I'm in apple valley, not far from 395 and want to take our summer vacation through the 395. Would love to know what kid friendly places you recommend, thanks.

Thanks for the comment. Lots of great hikes for kids such as exploring the Mono Lake area and the tufas. Plus Bodie can be a cool spot to check out with the ghost town. Depends on if your kids like outdoorsy stuff or not though.
