Sometimes I wonder if they are as much cat as dog. All of mine except my mix have been more cat like in personality. They woukd do stuff because they wanted to. Not because you told them to. That's why they are so hard to train as well as being one person dogs. Incredible animals that really taught me how to train dogs. Well them and ceaser Milan. My mix is a bit more dog like than my purebreeds were.
I remember when one attacked my neighbour (little 5ft 4 woman) tearing her arm to shreds the owner ran out of her house trying to make her sign papers negating the dogs responsibly. Every dog is different i suppose.

I’ve had 3 Ridgebacks, absolutely adore them, best dog’s ever, somehow more than a dog, they are so loyal and loving, brave, funny and adorable at the same time and they do all this with great dignity, best companion you can have ❤ I still miss my last big boy 😢, I would have him back in a heartbeat 💓
Loyalty is remarkable in these dogs! You couldn't whip a youngin or fight with a girl with him around! Even for strangers. Ours was 18, died about a year ago

Then watching her get the lethal injection being unalived in an instant in my arms . I miss my dog so fekjck much 😭😭😭😭😭
We had a rottie/ridgeback mix named Hercules who was gorgeous. Had the best features of both breeds. Developed cancer at age 8 and we had him euthanized when his pain was greater than his joie de vivre. He was a very good boy.

I bought one when he was a year old. Covered in cuts and scars. Lived in a small kennel. Only time he was let out to run it was with shepherd chow mixes. I got the fellow home. Named him filo(Clint eastwood) he didn't know how to be a dog. Six monthes he came out of his shell. He loved to terrorize visitors. Lol he would give them a good scare. Never bit. Loved him so much. He lived a good life. Never hurt any livestock or chickens. But would kill a coyote in a heart beat. Filo the great!
What a great story and thank you for saving him,Filo the great!,Yes my ridgeback(present) take care of my chickens as well, she even plays with them but she controls them very nicely , my ridge grew up with my chickens she is harmless to them... I give her a egg here and there for her great skills and courage...she loves it and loves raw eggs.😊

On our second ridgeback, We've had weimaraners also. The ridgebacks are not as anxious to please as the Weimaraners but they are lower maintenance and do not get into trouble. Never an accident in the house, never tear anything up. But they do kind of have a mind of their own.
I miss my old ridgeback. Frank was with me for 14 yrs. I can truly say I loved that boy and I'll never forget him. So grateful for him spending his life with me.
Yes they are very smart , they learn your patterns real quick, sensitive, yet humble and strong! A real noise for smelling anything out.., they love to play with you and your children yet they will defend you out in nature against predators such as lions... Just absolutely love them since child , I have my second ridgeback now and love to breed with her in future...

I have a ridgeback/ brendle pit bull. His ridge is almost identical. Hes such a cool dog, I love my boy so much, hes like my child, a total sweetheart.
I've got 3 ridgies. they love to run and chase. I've taught them to chase low flying vultures circling our property. They love it. It's fantastic to watch them run.
I had the honour of finding a ridgeback/pit mix at a shelter. Was not suited for small children but the best dog I ever had. War within a breath. She was built for it.
My last purebred I never locked the doors to my house. Meter had anyone dumb enough to come in. Finding a dog sitter was a chore. There were only a couple people she would let come in the house.
My mother had one, the most Alpha dog I've ever been around, completely fearless, all bite and very little bark 😊. Lived 15 years even when he was old, still acted like the boss towards the younger Rottweiler.
I had a ridgeback Pitbull cross, he was the most wonderful dog I've ever owned, big, loyal, brilliant with the kids and tough as nails. Funny thing was, he was around 110 pounds, a white chest on the same colour as your dog , and his ears stood up !!! Both breeds have floppy ears but mine Zack had ears like a German shepherd... He was a really good looking boy, I miss him dearly....
My husband and I had never seen one before. We bought our first house and a neighbor had one. He would come down to our house every day to play with our dogs. He would jump our fence and cleared it in one jump. Then when he was done playing jumped back out and went home. We loved him, he was so beautiful!

I've currently have a pit/boxer x Ridgeback. He might be the best dog I've had. Very different than a purebred Ridgeback. The boxer in the mix keeps him almost overly friendly. Also makes him the worst protection dog I've had. He is so friendly he'll let anyone in the house. But he doesn't look as friendly as he is. Great mix!

I had one for 12 yrs best dog. So protective. His best friend was our cat. Was good around other dogs until the other dogs barked at us then he protected us. And yes they can jump over a 6ft fence to protect his family
My 7yo german shepherd likes screwing with my 12yo miniature schnauzer. Irritates his elder to attack him. But he also respects his friend, and lets the little guy eat his fill, first.
No matter what breed,, until you've experienced the love and trust that you receive, to bond with you're compadre, They truly are mans & women's best friend .
I worked with dogs in the past and I had the pleasure of working with a couple of Ridgebacks. Absolutely beautiful dogs. So easy going. I guess when you can command your space you don’t have anything to prove so you can relax ❤
My Ridgeback Rua loves play time and skulking! They are beautiful elite athlete dogs who are chilled out and loving. Rua “works” as a therapy dog in my community.
My family adopted a full grown ridgeback, she was at least 130 lbs but still as fast as any smaller dog. She was the smartest and most independent dog I’ve ever had. She would escape our yard and take a walk through the woods and return before dark. RIP Beans
That's a huge one. My female was 107 regular weight for years. But when she got older, and wasn't as active. She got up to about 120. And I've had people act like I'm lying about her weight. But she was weighed on the scale at the vet. So I know it was accurate. But 130 is crazy! I bet she was an amazing dog. ✌️

Had a beautiful black Ridgeback Lab mix. Solid black with a perfect ridge. My childhood dog. Love her ,miss her. My sister and her husband have had multiple Ridgebacks throughout the years. Guess you can say they're our family dogs.
Ridgebacks playing is the best, and for those that have never seen it, scary. Ever check their speed? Fastest one I ever had reached about 35 mph and weighed 88 lbs... stood 28inches tall and could easily run down a coyote... probably the most alpha of all 10 of the ridgebacks I have had Yours are beautiful, best breed in my opinion
Thanks. 100% agree on being the best breed. I never clocked them but they are strong and fast for sure. Kimba, the little one, will probably be bigger than Kuma who is now fully grown at 28" tall and 92lbs heavy.
My Thai Ridgeback "Tisha" loved running and chasing, but unfortunately she got nearly blind at five years old. Glaucoma is some serious shit, your dog is fine and next morning she is blind. She was also winning all dog shows and was considered one of the most beautiful Thai Ridgeback in a country. Well, not anymore. Sometimes she doesn't recognize me on street before I come closer. I cared for her before and my bond with her became even stronger since but that is some cruel shit to go through. I'm glad it didn't happen after she got babies, wouldn't want to have anyone else to go through this. Love your dogs, you are their world.

My brother had a ridge-pitt mix. She was a great dog. I miss her. I only saw her afraid once as a puppy when our 7ft 500lbs friend came over to visit. He was a gentle giant. I miss Eric too.
That's why I got a Ridgeback, they're very stealthy dogs. Quiet, Energetic, playful, great with kids. Extremely smart, she'll bark if something is wrong. My favorite breed

Reminds me of my 2 rescue pupsters as a teen, they were (as far as we knew) Rhodesian Ridgeback crossed with Pointers. They were fully black with white speckles on their chest. Same overall shape and look as Ridgebacks, yours playing with the line of standing up hair... gave me flashbacks to them playing. 😭 I miss them so much, Ridgebacks are WONDERFUL dogs.

@@joshhayl7459 No, I don't mind you asking. I got "Rocko" as a pup. He developed a Dr Jekyll and Mr.Hyd type split personality at age three. He seems fine during the day but at night his personality darkened. He retreated to a back room. Anyone, family included, would experience his anger if they entered. This anger progressed into violence, with biting episodes. My wife even took him to an animal psychiatrist. He was put on doggy Prozac. Nothing worked. About that time he attacked a family member who awakened him by touching him. The result was 30 stitches in the face. My wife confessed to me that he had bitten her twice and she failed to tell me fearing I would do what I felt was necessary. That was to have him put down due to his dangerous nature. He was a 90-pound muscular animal. I love the dog but he was a menace to society and I feared he would do more damage to my family and outsiders.

I love ridgebacks. My sisters dog is the most melancholic animal I know, every time I go to their house, and I sit down, the dog comes to me and lays her head in my lap and staring up with the saddest puppy eyes. She's a sweet dog indeed.

@@AhHereWeGoI use to live in Everett around River rd park area off 41st. My family has had Ridgebacks in the PNW for a long time. My uncle also in Everett sold a few puppies from his dogs over the years. Former governor of Oregon bought a ridgeback also from the river road home.

I've currently have a pit/boxer x Ridgeback. He might be the best dog I've had. Very different than a purebred Ridgeback. The boxer in the mix keeps him almost overly friendly. Also makes him the worst protection dog I've had. He is so friendly he'll let anyone in the house. But he doesn't look as friendly as he is. Great mix!

I had a ridgeback as a child growing up living in South Africa , now living in the USA 22 years later and my wife knows my heart and got me a Ridgeback puppy last year never thought I would have one again ,bring so many memories and great times with this breed..I love my girly ,girls I had to give her a proper afrikaans name Anja, and yes I will not trade her for the world , she understands me i talk lot to her in afrikaans she gaurd my family my house my chickens my cats my humans whatever it is...❤❤❤❤

I had one for 12 yrs best dog. So protective. His best friend was our cat. Was good around other dogs until the other dogs barked at us then he protected us. And yes they can jump over a 6ft fence to protect his family
I've never known another breed that will play fight harder and louder than two Ridgebacks, then break that fight to be "pinned" by a Yorkie.

My 7yo german shepherd likes screwing with my 12yo miniature schnauzer. Irritates his elder to attack him. But he also respects his friend, and lets the little guy eat his fill, first.

I worked with dogs in the past and I had the pleasure of working with a couple of Ridgebacks. Absolutely beautiful dogs. So easy going. I guess when you can command your space you don’t have anything to prove so you can relax ❤

My Ridgeback Rua loves play time and skulking! They are beautiful elite athlete dogs who are chilled out and loving. Rua “works” as a therapy dog in my community.

My family adopted a full grown ridgeback, she was at least 130 lbs but still as fast as any smaller dog. She was the smartest and most independent dog I’ve ever had. She would escape our yard and take a walk through the woods and return before dark. RIP Beans

That's a huge one. My female was 107 regular weight for years. But when she got older, and wasn't as active. She got up to about 120. And I've had people act like I'm lying about her weight. But she was weighed on the scale at the vet. So I know it was accurate. But 130 is crazy! I bet she was an amazing dog. ✌️
Yep, ours was a runner. Would out run a greyhound. And Gallup like a horse. Looked us eye to eye standing on back legs. Great great dog

Thanks. 100% agree on being the best breed. I never clocked them but they are strong and fast for sure. Kimba, the little one, will probably be bigger than Kuma who is now fully grown at 28" tall and 92lbs heavy.
I believe that! My Tika can flat move! Never been clocked, but I estimate about 30-40 mph!!! And then, not panting….. ready to go again! 😎

My Thai Ridgeback "Tisha" loved running and chasing, but unfortunately she got nearly blind at five years old. Glaucoma is some serious shit, your dog is fine and next morning she is blind. She was also winning all dog shows and was considered one of the most beautiful Thai Ridgeback in a country. Well, not anymore. Sometimes she doesn't recognize me on street before I come closer. I cared for her before and my bond with her became even stronger since but that is some cruel shit to go through. I'm glad it didn't happen after she got babies, wouldn't want to have anyone else to go through this. Love your dogs, you are their world.
I am so sorry to hear this. Saying goodbye to them is the hardest thing ever, but we can only cherish the beautiful bond and memories built with them. I love Thai Ridgebacks, I have never had one. Thanks for your comment and thoughtful sharing.

My brother had a ridge-pitt mix. She was a great dog. I miss her. I only saw her afraid once as a puppy when our 7ft 500lbs friend came over to visit. He was a gentle giant. I miss Eric too.
We have a 18 month old ridge back and she is hilarious except she never barks😂😂

That's why I got a Ridgeback, they're very stealthy dogs. Quiet, Energetic, playful, great with kids.

I had a Rhodesian Ridgeback Pit mix that was such an amazing protective animal....she was my best friend at times....and was smart enough to set some people straight when they got out of line WITHOUT killing them lols. One of the smartest dogs I ever had, and after her 13 years with me, I miss her sooooo much!!

Reminds me of my 2 rescue pupsters as a teen, they were (as far as we knew) Rhodesian Ridgeback crossed with Pointers.
They were fully black with white speckles on their chest.
Same overall shape and look as Ridgebacks, yours playing with the line of standing up hair... gave me flashbacks to them playing. 😭
I miss them so much, Ridgebacks are WONDERFUL dogs.

I had a Ridgeback from a pup to 5 years old. He developed mental health issues that made him dangerous and required that he be put down. Broke my heart.

@@joshhayl7459 No, I don't mind you asking. I got "Rocko" as a pup. He developed a Dr Jekyll and Mr.Hyd type split personality at age three. He seems fine during the day but at night his personality darkened. He retreated to a back room. Anyone, family included, would experience his anger if they entered. This anger progressed into violence, with biting episodes. My wife even took him to an animal psychiatrist. He was put on doggy Prozac. Nothing worked. About that time he attacked a family member who awakened him by touching him. The result was 30 stitches in the face. My wife confessed to me that he had bitten her twice and she failed to tell me fearing I would do what I felt was necessary. That was to have him put down due to his dangerous nature. He was a 90-pound muscular animal. I love the dog but he was a menace to society and I feared he would do more damage to my family and outsiders.
OMG I've had four as an adult, my last one passed in September of '19. So glad this came up in my feed, does my heart good.

I love ridgebacks. My sisters dog is the most melancholic animal I know, every time I go to their house, and I sit down, the dog comes to me and lays her head in my lap and staring up with the saddest puppy eyes. She's a sweet dog indeed.
