How Many Times Can We Say Goodbye is a studio album by American singer Dionne Warwick. It was released by Arista Records on September 29, 1983 in the United States. Recorded during the spring of 1983, Warwick worked with singer and songwriter Luther Vandross on the album who appears on the hit title track. The album includes the original version of the song "So Amazing," which Vandross would record later for his Give Me the Reason album and a remake of The Shirelles' 1960 hit "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" featuring the original group on guest vocals.
Despite strong reviews, How Many Times Can We Say Goodbye failed to reprise the commercial success of its predecessor Heartbreaker (1983) and became a commercial disappointment, stalling at number 57 on the US Billboard 200. Lead single "How Many Times Can We Say Goodbye" hit number 4 on the Adult Contemporary chart and number 27 on the Billboard Hot 100, while the upbeat "Got a Date" peaked at number 45 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

Good morning, D to answer your question, that is indeed Luther singing. This song was released on September 29, 1983. This is one of my favorite songs by Dionne. The reason why her voice was sounding so differently here was of her smoking habit that she's had since college and if you listen to her later recordings her voice deepened considerably due to how hard she worked especially during live performances. I bet this was a real thrill for Luther, considering he worked with the woman who influenced his career.
Keep up the great work, my dear.

Diva, you know she’s a handful, one of the greatest voices. Top pick.

You mentioned that you really liked "Heartbreaker." As you know, that album was written and produced by the Bee Gees. There's another song from that album that you might like, called "Take The Short Way Home."

I was thinking isn't this the duet with Luther. Yes it's him, you can't mistake that voice. It's from the early 80s. Dionne Warwick has one of the most straight forward voices, not a lot of vocal acrobats. Cool song not a fire bop, but I will listen to it if it comes on. She has a lot more hits(better than this one). If you listen & look at her you can hear her cousin's tone and see the family resemblance.

Ms. Does plenty of unbelievable vocal acrobats in her live performances especially in her long prime!! Ms. Dionne recordings purposedly were produced not to give many acrobats.
