Your approval comes from lack of history knowledge. The history is indeed written by the victors and the victors happily present Napoleon as a tyrant and, like you said, monster, which is simply not try. But as always, the general public could never be the wiser. PS I'm not French.
Harry Cruse-Harris oh he could have. The Grande Armee could have occupied London in like just a few days. But let me remind you.... britain is an island nation. islands are surrounded by waters. And what do we use to defend our waters?? THE NAVY. That's why he cant invade britain, it has the most powerful navy in the world that it can sink napoleon's ships before it even reached the middle of the gap between france and britain. Plus, france and spain even combined their fleets but still lost to lord nelson at Trafalgar, which forever confirmed britain's naval supremacy.

I don't think anyone gets that this trailer is in an alternate reality. At the end you can see the HMS Victory being burned, which it never was. Hell, there's even a sign that says how far he is from London! Oh and not to trigger anyone, but the Russians before Napoleons army left Moscow did nothing but relentless retreat. Napoleon even took Moscow! Yet had to leave since the Russians burnt it down. Time and time again Napoleon crushed the Russians, but time and time again the Russians retreated farther away and burnt there own land to stop the French from advancing with well supplied and fed troops. Sure the Russians beat Napoleon after he left Moscow, but his army was severely weakened marching his starving army home. If Napoleons army was at its regular strength the Russians would probably flee to Siberia and build up forces there.
There are some severe mistakes in your argument. First the Russians did fight Napoleon before the winter (at Borodino on the 7th of September 1812) when he had already lost more than half his initial forces. And secondly the winter is severely overrated. When conquering Russia there are two big obstacles the cold and the mud. During spring and autumn the dirt roads turn into oceans of mud impeding men, horses and wagons. This is the reason why an offensive launched rather early (24th of June) bogs down and has to suffer through the winter. The Russians under Kutuzov may be considered cowards for retreating; in reality it is a manoeuver meant to draw in the enemy in order to fight on the chosen terrain. Note that Moscow at that time wasn't the capital. Peter the Great had moved the capital from Moscow to Saint-Petersburg in approximatively 1715. Moscow was a spiritual centre symbolized by the churches on the Kremlin. The burning of the city was a huge advantage for in the field of propaganda (the good Russian Christian against the heathen French revolutionaries). Finally I want to point out that Kutuzov forced Napoleon to retreat by outsmarting him and not engaging in negotiations. In case you wonder it is entirely possible to conquer Russia, even in the winter. The Poles, Mongols and Varyags proved this
Yeah, I see your point, but retreating was part of the russian strategy. You can't pretend that the russian retreat was some sort of weakness or cowardice or whatever when it was a clever stratedy... The french army played into their game. The russians were expecting the french to take Moscow, the burning of the city was completely intentional. They were burning all of their cities to starve the french in preparation for when winter arrived. By the time the command realized that winter was there and they had no supplies, they were already too far from their borders. Also, Borodino was very costly for french, so it's not like they didn't put up a fight.
Actualy Napoleon captured Moscow, held it for a few months, then left. He also won the battle of Smolensk and the battle of Moskova. He only loose against the weather and the scorched earth tactics of the russians. So stop saying that he got his ass kicked and go back to school
He didn't capture it, it was burned by russians before Napoleon entered the city. Russian forces didn't take any fight with Napoleon soldiers exept Borodino and some minor skirmishes, and they pushed Napoleon army to cannibalism and death from harsh winter. The battle of Smolensk wasn't for the victory, russians needed time to manevr to make Napoleon army go the same way it went to Moscow. Actually, by the end of the war the Russian losses amounted to 210,000 people, the loss of Napoleon's army amounted to 380,000 people and 120,000 deserters. So yes, he got his ass kicked in Russia and went back to France where GB gave him his final kick.
He got his ass kicked. Because Russian army won the battle of Tarutino, Maloyaroslavets, Krasny, berezina. And after that we won the european campaign 1813-1814 and in spring 1814 we captured Paris. Napoleon was defeated!
+гугл гуглович Russian army didn't kick his ass they just burned there own lands so napoleons couldn't get any supplies then just did cowardly tactics and then they just let winter fight for them
Also the ship, the burn here is HMS Victory, the same ship Nelson commanded during the battle of Trafalgar. The Victory is as of yet still in "active service", so I suppose, that in this timeline Napoleon probably also managed best the british navy.

It is a reference to his early campaign in Italy. Napoleon was dealt a really bad hand. The army was demoralised, really short on supply, pay was many months and they were facing sizable opposition, and to top it all off, the weather sucked. It seemed like the task ahead was insurmountable. Yet Napoleon prevailed against all odds.
To add to Richardsen's comment, at the time of the turn of the 19th Century, Italy was still very fragmented and based upon city-states in the North and the vast marches of the Kingdom of Sicily in the South. The popular imagination of the time saw the disparate Italians as tricky - for example, Sardinia-Piedmont could agree to allow France passage to attack Tuscany just to cut them off at the rear and follow up a counterattack from behind. Or Austria could be allowed passage through Venice to attack Milan and the same thing would happen there, too. Italy viewed everyone outside of Italy as a greater danger to them all than they were a danger to themselves.
some of he battles he won versus other countrys having a smaller force, spain austria italy prussia(holy roman empire) russia egypt great britan( cannons on a hill versus a large fleet) and more, he never lost one battle untill the russian invasion, from there everything went downhill. waterloo was more or less lost before it started, but before the russian invasion, napoleon was whitout boosting the most powerfull man in the world. the thing that changes him from being power mad man is that he used his power to civil rights and education for the masses, he was a brilliant general attacking day and night whitout stop, always in the front in the armies whit his soldiers, this won him respect in the army. in the war versus italy he was nearly killd several time at a bridge attack when they attackt against a fortified postion. people say he was all black after the battle becouse of all the gunpowder from the enemys cannons, sorry for misspell, he is clearly in the top 10 best generals of all time. compare him to alexander the great that got an army for free, and just killd and waged war, whit the intetion to only get more power, the culture effect was a biproduct that he didnt mean to happen but has been given credit for, again sorry for my spelling
According to his own Marshals Napoleon didn't believe a word of what he said concerning civil rights, religious liberty, etc.. He was exploiting the oppressed to boost his own power. Without a doubt a great general but he's hardly the figure many historians make him about to be - a tragically cut down magnanimous hero who could've lead the world to enlightenment.
i cant lie to you mate the movie has already been made and released so im afraid that wont be possible. also this trailer was terrible and riddley scott would have made a much better trailer. just my humble opinion.
"My enemies are many, my equals are none." Only Napoleon could say something like that and dont come off as a narcissist. One of the best military commanders of all time, he beat the russians before he invaded russia, they won by precisely not fighting him, they knew better by then. When he came back from exile, litteraly every nation declared war on him out of fear, not war on on a country, but war on one man! Wellington got to study napoleon carefully for years before facing him. Napoleon truly was a force of nature.
Thierry Dubuc yep....if he had won the war against the British fleet then against all of the German countries and if the polish joined in with him the Russians would of found themselves in trouble
...they won by precisely not fighting him, they knew better by then. --- You're wrong. Russians were fighting against Napoleon's army during this retreat. Battle of Smolensk, Battle of Kobrin, etc. What our generals were not doing, however, was giving Napoleon a decisive battle untill Borodino, which ended with a draw. Napoleon was unable to decisively defeat russian army, russian army was unable to break Napoleon's army (which had by that moment numerical superiority) as well. But while russian army could catch breath because it had supply, Napoleon couldn't. So in october his army started to retreat while suffering defeat after defeat in such battles as Battle of Tarutino. In december his surviving soldiers left russian borders.
@@ГригорийГ-ч4н technically the russians retreated. Napoleon was hoping to win a decisive victory to then dictate peace terms. He did not get this decisive victory because the russians would not stand their ground. They would either retreat or fight a bit then retreat. Either way, they avoided fighting, using instead scorched earth tactics and waiting for winter to come. Therefore, as i said, they did not win by fighting him, but by rather not fighting, ensuring they lacked supplies and be lured into russia in time for winter. Now, not shaming the russians, a good commander knows how to pick his battles. But the russians did learn through experience such as austerlitz. They knew fighting Napoleon head on was suicide, and therefore i retain that Napoleon had no equals from russia, at least when it comes to battles.
@@ГригорийГ-ч4н If I may help, you might be looking for the different terms "retreat" and "rout". Indeed, the Russian army never broke. Paid a high price for it too, but on the long term, the costs were justified.

@dioamine Oh I understand what you mean, Corsica at the time still thought of itself as Italian I know. I absolutely adore this depiction of Napoleon. Fierce, determined, ruthless, and yet at the same time charismatic. He's a monster, but a monster you feel compelled to follow. I say this not even being a fan of Napoleon. A great general, definitely, but I disagree with a lot of what he did in life.
He was only a monster to the european leaders who declared war to France and him.
Your approval comes from lack of history knowledge. The history is indeed written by the victors and the victors happily present Napoleon as a tyrant and, like you said, monster, which is simply not try. But as always, the general public could never be the wiser.
PS I'm not French.
Detected French spy, kill him!
France today is an embarrassment to him
Harry Cruse-Harris oh he could have.

D'oh! If I'm honest, I never did catch onto that. Thanks!
Russia tends to rely on winter attrition don't they?
Gerd Von Rundstedt the Russian army constantly harassed Bonaparte's army as he retreated
+гугл гуглович Russian army didn't kick his ass they just burned there own lands so napoleons couldn't get any supplies then just did cowardly tactics and then they just let winter fight for them
LOL Tarutino? Murat tried to betray Napoleon by charging his men directly at the russians. He wasn't even trying lol.

Napoleon: they said that Italy could never be conquered
Everybody who conquered Italy since the fall of the Roman empire: am I joke to you?

It is a reference to his early campaign in Italy. Napoleon was dealt a really bad hand. The army was demoralised, really short on supply, pay was many months and they were facing sizable opposition, and to top it all off, the weather sucked. It seemed like the task ahead was insurmountable. Yet Napoleon prevailed against all odds.
Benito Mussolini: 😥
@@kristofevarsson6903 Indeed!
some of he battles he won versus other countrys having a smaller force, spain austria italy prussia(holy roman empire) russia egypt great britan( cannons on a hill versus a large fleet) and more, he never lost one battle untill the russian invasion, from there everything went downhill. waterloo was more or less lost before it started, but before the russian invasion, napoleon was whitout boosting the most powerfull man in the world. the thing that changes him from being power mad man is that he used his power to civil rights and education for the masses, he was a brilliant general attacking day and night whitout stop, always in the front in the armies whit his soldiers, this won him respect in the army. in the war versus italy he was nearly killd several time at a bridge attack when they attackt against a fortified postion. people say he was all black after the battle becouse of all the gunpowder from the enemys cannons, sorry for misspell, he is clearly in the top 10 best generals of all time. compare him to alexander the great that got an army for free, and just killd and waged war, whit the intetion to only get more power, the culture effect was a biproduct that he didnt mean to happen but has been given credit for, again sorry for my spelling

According to his own Marshals Napoleon didn't believe a word of what he said concerning civil rights, religious liberty, etc.. He was exploiting the oppressed to boost his own power. "My enemies are many, my equals are none."
Only Napoleon could say something like that and dont come off as a narcissist.
---
You're wrong.
@@thierrydubuc9490 i mean that was a fighting retreat, not a "run the hell for your life" retreat.
