Nice video. I have to be honest, when I've have my unit inspected in the past, they just vacuumed around the burners, and that's it. I watched one time, and I told myself, "Heck, I can do that." I did call them one more time to make sure I didn't screw anything up, not telling the employee what I had done, and he said my unit was the cleanest one he had seen in a while. I haven't called them back since.
I will ask this, though. My HVAC system was purchased in 1989, and while I'm sure some parts have been replaced over the years, it seems to be working fine. How long should these units last? I realize that something that old may not be as efficient as new ones, but my bills haven't been that bad over time. Thanks.

You are past due for a new high efficiency furnace! 33 Years is a long life for a furnace. I thought my 1996, installed new in 1997, Armstrong Ultra SX90, at just over 25 years of age, is old. I spent just under $250 CDN on a new Draft Inducer motor assembly and new flame sensor/igniter assembly parts and installed them myself. Did a lit match test of the primary heat exchanger, with just fan motor running to check if compromised (thank goodness not cracked) Cleaned the in-shot burners, the four gas jets and gas jet on pilot burner, rebuilt the always leaking Condensate Y-Trap (very bad original design by Lennox/Armstrong) with System 636 pipe, and furnace is now running so smoothly. No more rough/loud bang delayed ignition. I'm sure I saved close to $900 in parts and labour, were I to have called an HVAC service. Now I can take a little more time to shop for a new furnace, rather than be pressured by HVAC companies to make a hasty, costly decision, and hire a licensed HVAC tech to just do the install it later in the season. Thanks for this great video and others here on UA-cam.

Do you happen to have a gas supply line with a tee installed on for gas line to catch debris from continuing on to you furnace suply line?
I think you called it a dirt trap.
Just a pice of black pipe that extends down pass your ball valve shut off valve.

We call them sediment traps. When my furnace was installed 15 years ago it wasn't something that was done. I plan on making a video in the future showing how to do that.

Why did you use a ratchet driver? Most people will strip the screws using a ratchet driver. Not a good idea.
