Coaches loved having deep benches because not only do they help when your starters go down, but you don't have to face them on other teams either. But like u said, bama had 5 stars 3 and four deep on the roster and you ultimately had bench rider 5 star players for 2 years and maybe got to sniff the field one year and then off to the nfl. Guys can go to other schools now and get the LEGAL bag of money and start instantly. Ole Nicky didn't like the transfer portal either because no longer did a kid have to take the bag and be stuck on the team. Does it cause problems with the fan base as these guys are yearly free agents? Definitely, but that's what it is now. Notice how fast saban left after they came out with nil. He stayed 3 years because it took time for the rosters to start to level out and he knew it was game over. He couldn't tarnish all those nattys and undefeated seasons by putting up 3 and 4 loss seasons which would be the norm now anyways. The top teams always has like 0 or 1 loss, but now your going to see teams in the top 12 with 2 and 3 or even 4 in a few years. Just like the nfl. A four loss season is a good year.

IMO this was one of the great football games in the sport's history. You had heated rivals...one a dynasty of current times and the other a dynasty from the distant past...located less than 75 miles from each other. There were no fights. There were no incidents of bottle throwing from the crowd. Both teams played their asses off and both could walk off the field knowing they gave everything they had. I saw a great game and, more importantly, I saw something rarely seen in modern-day America...mutual respect. Thanks and kudos to the Bulldogs and the Yellow Jackets.
@@ImRanchWilderwhat about missed call Jesse Palmer pointed out on TV should've been called against GT in first half, probably cost UGa a TD and would've changed whole game or all the conspicuous GT injuries and slow to get up when dogs actually started to move the ball? Thought Ole Miss was playing...Lots of missed holding calls too. But hey the UGa coaches screwed up dogs in beginning. Why not QB sneak for a half a yard or just kick a FG on fourth down? Greedy dumb call. No need for OT if got FG by either one or PAT. Should've ended 28-27 also odd ...lots of ifs and buts that game especially
Don't follow either team, but glad I stumbled across this; most amazing finish I've ever seen. A shame either team had to lose such effort by both, but, glad for the home team, and that unbeaten-at-home streak.
It’s horrible entertainment. Football is a 4 down sport. If they want to shorten the yards to cover per OT attempt, make it alternating 1st and goals from the 10 IMO. That way there’s also the toss up of if you go for it on 4th or take the 3 points. Offensive penalties mean something again as well.
that's what I was thinking. And remember: Key gave away two games by starting Pyron. With King, GT definitely beats Va Tech, and quite possibly beats ND (I went to that, and ND was not really that awesome). With Philo, GT beats Va Tech, lower percent beats ND....GT will likely demolish our bowl opponent. Sort of a bummer in that this should have been an 8-9 win team, had King been healthy all year....
I think the average 2 pt conversion rate is about 46%. In the OTs, the teams combined for 3 of 14, or 21%. Georgia Tech was a mere 1 of 7, 14%. My goodness did these teams make the conversion look hard. Add in the miss on Georgia's curious 3rd Q decision to go for two and the combined rate for the game was 3 of 15, or 20%. Yeesh.
i think stakes are partially at play here. there is a real factor to how much it matters to the players on the field. a normal 2 point conversion usually doesn’t win a game decisively the way a 2 point conversion in overtime does.
That 3rd quarter 2pt attempt made me so mad. I always say, never go for 2 except for late in the game when you absolutely have to. If you’re going to go for 2 that early, you might as well go for 2 every time. You never know how the score is going to evolve and change with that much game left to play.
Kirby Smart after the game, “We are all out of 2 point plays now.” Wait, isn’t every play in your playbook designed to pick up at least 3 yards? Notice we won on a flipping run up the middle?
@@NCHunter1224sort of. Being on the 3 yard line means the secondary doesn't have to worry about the deep ball, so it changes how you can draw up plays.
This was so bizarre my wife even watched the whole thing! Can you imagine being one of those Georgia fans who left early because it was a semi blowout for Tech?
GT had this game won. All they had to do was run out the clock in the 4th quarter. I bet Kirby Smart will be on the lookout for somebody who can consistently catch the football for next year. This game should have been a blowout. Props to the GT program for making this a great game.
Georgia tech was the first sports team i ever started following as a kid. Became a dawgs fan when kirby stepped in and i love both teams equally. What a game and GO DAWGS
This game, along with other close matchups where heavy favorites like Georgia with a 19.5-point spread were pushed to the limit, shows how much the new college football talent system has leveled the playing field. Great players are now spread across more teams, not just the traditional powerhouses. It’s awesome to see fewer dominant, undefeated teams running the table and more competitive games. This playoff is shaping up to be wild-hopefully full of emotional, March Madness-style matchups. Let’s go football!
That fumble was what really turned the tide in the game, and when you face a team like the Dawgs, you need to put them away because they've been here before
I’ve personally been to more UGA-GT games than I can remember. This has to be the greatest game I’ve ever seen these two teams play. Even better than in 98 when Bobo found the end zone with no time left and they finally beat those suckers for the first time as seniors. The party in the lot after that game was legendary. The drum line came out and joined. It was amazing. But this game has to top that. Absolutely. Tech is back and we should be completely on notice now. A healthy rivalry is always good for the state of Georgia. Good job little brother. Gave us a hell of a fight. 😅 Go Dawgs.
The PI call against Tech should've never been allowed. From every angle, that ball was tipped at scrimmage. However, by NCAA standards, it makes perfect sense. There is no way they could justify a 3 loss team in the playoffs regardless of what a favorite of the system they are. This is the same thing that used to happen for Alabama when they were the perennial favorites. 8 overtimes against Tech? A team that by all measurement should never have stood any chance? This is getting out of control.

8 OT at home to get past tech... look I know tech isnt a terrible team but if GA was as good as espn likes to say, no way it should take 8 oT's to win.
Welcome to rivalry week!
As a UGA fan, I completely agree. I loved this win all the same, but wow…we have a lot of work to do this week.
It's the fact that this is just a chaos football year with no dominant team. Enjoy it for what it is.
Totally agree - 8 OTs to get past GT? Really? GA should be embarrassed.
Rivalry week does that.
This was the biggest war I've ever seen...neither team was backing down, both stood strong til the bitter end.
As a neutral fan this is the most entertaining game one could ask for. Wow!
I'm an ACC follower, an FSU fan with nothing to celebrate this year except THIS EXCEPTIONAL ALL-ROUND GAME PLAYED BY AN ACC TEAM -- great game!!! Georgia Tech; hold your heads high, every one of you Ramblin' Wreck players!!! Y'all played so well!!!
Razorback fan here, those yellow jackets have some fire in that tail
IMO this was one of the great football games in the sport's history. You had heated rivals...one a dynasty of current times and the other a dynasty from the distant past...located less than 75 miles from each other. There were no fights. There were no incidents of bottle throwing from the crowd. Both teams played their asses off and both could walk off the field knowing they gave everything they had. I saw a great game and, more importantly, I saw something rarely seen in modern-day America...mutual respect. Thanks and kudos to the Bulldogs and the Yellow Jackets.
Missed targeting call. Georgia gets the break. I guess the SEC wanted to make sure an SEC team got in the playoffs. Very unfair to Tech.
Lots of missed calls. Here's two: Gt pass interference no call in OT. Georgia offensive holding no call in OT.
Watch it again: he was running straight toward Haynes and hit his chest at the ball-- not targeting- a big clean ass hit
Fake shit
@@ImRanchWilder True that. A game that long is gonna have lots of missed calls.
Don't follow either team, but glad I stumbled across this; most amazing finish I've ever seen. A shame either team had to lose such effort by both, but, glad for the home team, and that unbeaten-at-home streak.
They did not call those holding calls against GA.
Horrendous
One of the craziest football games that I have ever seen!
I’ve watched that game on tv between yesterday night and until midnight tonight today
This game brought a whole new meaning to OT. I was listening on the radio and was in disbelief!😅
I'm not sure the trading 2 point conversions format is really working as intended.
Cuz of one game? Way to kneejerk. A real football fan knows how very rare this is.
Best to just call it a tie, like the old days, and go home.
@@julietemily8157that would be nice but I would say it starts at the five they seem like they want it short

For a change, the tagline "insane" actually matches the game
As someone who never watches college football, I found some of these rules baffling.
HELL Yeah Babe , GEORGIA BULLDOGS 😃😃🥳🥳🥳🤙🏼🤙🏼
Tech might be the best 5 loss team ever. They fight their ass off every game
that's what I was thinking.
Hands down game of the year.
How many heart attaches !!!!
A classic in State rivalry, no losers here, great game.
Dawgs lucky as shit that King fumbled that ball!!😂
That was the best!!! No one lost here!!!! Great football. 🏈 That’s y I love college football ❤
Yeesh.
Huh
i think stakes are partially at play here. there is a real factor to how much it matters to the players on the field. a normal 2 point conversion usually doesn’t win a game decisively the way a 2 point conversion in overtime does.
That 3rd quarter 2pt attempt made me so mad. I always say, never go for 2 except for late in the game when you absolutely have to. If you’re going to go for 2 that early, you might as well go for 2 every time. You never know how the score is going to evolve and change with that much game left to play.
Kirby Smart after the game, “We are all out of 2 point plays now.”
Wait, isn’t every play in your playbook designed to pick up at least 3 yards? Notice we won on a flipping run up the middle?
@@NCHunter1224sort of. Being on the 3 yard line means the secondary doesn't have to worry about the deep ball, so it changes how you can draw up plays.
Wow! Incredible game!
3 of the 15 total 2 point conversion attempts for the game were successful.
Was there every body left with 4 mins left. We did the Dawg march back to downtown. 1 am
Georgia tech was the first sports team i ever started following as a kid. Became a dawgs fan when kirby stepped in and i love both teams equally. What a game and GO DAWGS
bandwagon
A nail biter indeed.--too the very end. Congrats Bulldogs.
Dan Jackson is going to play on Sundays for a long time
Been very critical of beck and bobo this season but I gotta give them both credit in this one!
Glad to be a dawg and so proud to see them keep fighting and props to ga tech also
This game, along with other close matchups where heavy favorites like Georgia with a 19.5-point spread were pushed to the limit, shows how much the new college football talent system has leveled the playing field. Great players are now spread across more teams, not just the traditional powerhouses. It’s awesome to see fewer dominant, undefeated teams running the table and more competitive games. This playoff is shaping up to be wild-hopefully full of emotional, March Madness-style matchups. Let’s go football!
That fumble was what really turned the tide in the game, and when you face a team like the Dawgs, you need to put them away because they've been here before
There needs to be a complete overhaul of college OT rules. It’s just stupid lmao
People hate on the Dawgs but we always play in all the instant classics
I love the Dawgs , I love the SEC I love the Gators but the only Day I am against Georgia is the Gators vs Dawgs
😅 Go Dawgs.
Take a shot everytime the announcer says, "THESE BULLDOG SENIORS HAVE NEVER LOST A GAME AT HOME!"
Yeah, I am UGA fan and that was getting a bit old.
He's only seventeen vibes.
GT played great Ball this Year Starting against FSU
The PI call against Tech should've never been allowed. From every angle, that ball was tipped at scrimmage.
However, by NCAA standards, it makes perfect sense. There is no way they could justify a 3 loss team in the playoffs regardless of what a favorite of the system they are. This is the same thing that used to happen for Alabama when they were the perennial favorites.
8 overtimes against Tech? A team that by all measurement should never have stood any chance? This is getting out of control.
Cry harder. They gave tech an extra free chance from the 1 for no reason. Multiple missed calls against Tech. Don't cry just because you lost.
That GT tight end is a beast
Upset denied thanks to a typical Atlanta choke.
Upset denied thanks to the typical SEC officiating.
@@SuperSparrow45 Where?
@@SuperSparrow45you mean the refs that put GT on the one yard line and they failed to convert?
Upset denied to teach Tech fans the needed lesson that they root for the wrong school.
@@Grae2079no, the ones that missed blatant targeting on King. The ones that let ugay players grab DLs facemasks on 3rd and 9 to allow a first down instead of a sack. The ones that make blatant PI calls on 4th down passes to extend the drive. Room temperature IQ f*cks like you won't see that though. You'll scream go dAwGS and drink away.
All the scuffles and brawls and attempted flag plantings going on this weekend, and meanwhile, these two teams had a war of attrition, on a Friday night, that ended in a showing of respect and class.
aight, lemme say this: as a uga fan, i gotta give props where props are due. georgia tech? y’all came with it. that game was a brawl, and trust me, i know what it feels like to take some heavy hits as a dawg fan. tech gave us everything y’all had, and it showed. the cards might not’ve fallen your way this time, but don’t let that dim the shine. that was a phenomenal game on both sides, and y’all left it all on the field. keep ya head high, tech fam-y’all got nothing to hang it low for.
Fine example of prevent defense value when the defense during the game was more than sufficient.
As a UGA fan, I have to say that King looks like a 1st round talent
Don't think so, maybe a backup or another position
@@Nic_P85could see him like a Taysom hill kinda player.
As a tech fan, he's great but thats a stretch.
@@kdog2646 he’s got talent. And athleticism he won’t be a Tom Brady but he’ll make it to the league.
@@Grae2079 honestly i see him as a backup. He won't transfer well. He takes hits like cam but doesn't have cams build. His passing has greatly improved though.
I’m curious, what’s the longest college football game ever? Probably Penn State Illinois nine overtime.
I want a personal handwritten apology from Kirby for making me stay up so long lol
I think I have maxed out on my ability to watch 2-point attempts.
Go Dawgs!!!!!!
Wow one of the greatest games of all time.
No dog in the fight. GT coaches blew that. You're on the one. Not, to extend or go on defense, but to win it and they put it in the hands of a QB NOT under center 😅 Give it to the better RB at that point
Number 3has the best touch down celebration I have ever seen beautiful moment love you son.

Huh. I felt bad about falling asleep before the start of the 6th OT…but apparently there were more to go!
So, okay, I was never making it to 8. Nice try, Tech.
