The floor looks great! It will be a dream garage once you get all of the cabinets installed.
I’m smiling while watching this video especially when you mentioned the part, “design your own garage floor.”it’s like thinking of a love interest! 😂😂 Haha requested for a quote for the solid black with the Orange border! Going to wrap my zr1 the same color too so it’ll be VERY complementing! Thanks for the video!
I love it mate it looks awesome!
Looks great thanks for the tips!!
You have a heater in your garage! So jealous right now! Your floor looks amazing!
Thanks David!! Really excited to see your go down and let me know how I can help!
I agree - it is visually appealing. Very professional. The next owner of your house will be fortunate.
Woah there cowboy! Don’t be putting ideas in my wife’s head. They’re going to bury me in this house. I’m never moving again. 😆😆😆
Auto Amateur I hear you! I’d rather cut myself than have to move houses. Just kidding (no I’m not)!
Looks great. I downsized and built a smaller house in 2017. Last year I went on Race Decks' Website and fiddle farted with their program that lets you design your floor. I did get on to the program and came up with a design that works for my small 1.5 car garage. I sent in the design and Race Deck sent it on to one of their dealers here in Canada. I received a quote in a short amount of time and was very happy with it. I retired 5 yrs ago when I was 56 so at 61 now I feel I still have lots of time to enjoy the floor. Unfortunately, being retired and loving my Florida vacations reduces the amount of extra cash so I am putting off the new floor install till this fall. The price will just be different.I think I will switch my choice and go with the big 2x2 tiles to save time on the install. New subscriber.
Thanks for watching and commenting! Congrats on your retirement. After installing two Race Deck floors now I would absolutely recommend the larger tiles. Much easier and faster to install! Good luck!
That's looks amazing.
WTF YT!? I didn’t get a notification...😡. Anywho, garage looks awesome!! If you like the tiles, good for you. I did the epoxy on my house when I lived in Washington and I loved that. We didn’t get snow like you get in MN tho. I’m just happy there were no tiles with a knife stuck in them!! Looking forward to the finished product!
I do love the epoxy flooring, but clearly yiuo've done a very nyce work in your garage.
The final version will be absolutely perfect (the cabinetry and LED light will give it a touch of a pro garage)
It's a huge frustration for me as my 997 is parked in a shared space and I can't arrange it as I would like...
thank you for the sharing
Just ordered. Thanks for the video and the tips and tricks. I'm seeing a pattern here, JoyeAuto install, garage floor install, ......... lol.
Nicely done mate! I am not a huge epoxy fan, looks nice but I have a suspicion that upkeep might be a little more demanding. I have looked at tiles for my garage but... I may be moving so for the next house. Hope your knee gets better... I suffer a similar fate and have had meniscus repairs (yes three!) on my right knee. Probably should stop running trails.... LOL. Cannot wait to see the final product.
Thanks Rick!! Ah, sorry about your knee. Yeah, I’m in a similar situation. Broken tibia plateau and complex meniscus tear.
Nice looks super
Love the new floor. What will spring cleaning look like for your garage? Power washer with a shop vacuum?
I hope this spring brings some peace and quiet..... and lots of time for driving!
Do you have your garage cabinets right on top of the flooring? Any issues as far as leveling? Great video!
Thanks! Yes. The cabinets are sat onto of the flooring. There are no issues with leveling. Each cabinet has four adjustable feet. They’re all perfectly level.
Nice video, I love the pattern. I am debating between a solid tile and a free flow tile. My underlying floor is unfinished concrete. Can you see the underlying floor through your free flow tiles?
You can if you look directly down at the tiles on your hands and knees. To the casual eye though, as you walk around your garage, no. You don't see the concrete. My floor is unfinished underneath also.
@@AutoAmateur Awesome, thanks for the quick reply. I’m actually thinking of putting a quick coat of drey colored epoxy paint on first in the hopes that the color of the underlying floor is less apparent.
Love it, very good job!!
You will soon need to change your UA-cam channel name from amateur to professional.
Is it so cold in Minnesota that you need a heater in your garage?
Haha. Thanks!! Ps. Yes. It’s unbelievably cold here. It doesn’t get below freezing inside the garage but it’s no fun being in there at 5 degrees Celsius.
Look great!
Wait, WHAT?! Targas are sweet but no more Turbo dreams?! Don’t do this to me Chris! 😆
@@AutoAmateur The turbo will always be the dream but I looked at pretty sweet Targa today.
But James, how did you move your 911 without a steering wheel? 😁
The floor looks great.
Hahaha. That’s a great question. I put the stock wheel back on briefing. 🤦🏼♂️😆
What happens if you spill oil or coolant you just leave it on the concrete floor under the tile or you have to pull up all the tile to clean?
Good question! You either pull up a tile or several or you buy a product which is like cat litter for engine fluids. Drop some on the ground, leave for a day and then use a shop vac to clean it up. Not ideal obviously and certainly a trade off for this kind of flooring.
Your floor look great. Good decision to install this flooring over epoxy, I been undecided which to install in my garage, but I decking better. Do you have pets? We have two dogs, wonder if their claws would get caught in between the spacing of decking?
Looks great, how does it hold up to lifting a car, or putting one on jack stands? Any worries about cleanup from oil or coolant?
No issues at all! I’ve had cars and SUVs up on jack stands and with quick jacks. No issues. As for clean up, they’re basically stain-proof. Oil, coolant, paint, anything - it all wipes up and doesn’t leave any marks. They’re so awesome!
@@AutoAmateur cool thanks, I was concerned about cleanup and durability, since I do a lot of car maintenance. I've been considering either epoxy or race deck for a while. I think I'm going to buy the race deck.
Can you use a pressure washer on these to do a deep clean? Will they drain well enough underneath?
They’re incredibly hard wearing and the Free Flow tile style drains water away very quickly.
Floor looks fantastic. Well done.
May I ask how well the floor does with casters? I use my small two car garage for detailing and I am wondering how a mechanics seat would work rolling around. Any issues so far?
I’ve had two of these Race Deck floors now and I’ve never had any problems. The last floor I had for 2 years. I jacked up the Porsche, the Jeep, all the time. No wear, no worries!
My mechanic’s seat is fine too, rolls around without any issues... with or without my bulk on it. Haha.
I see you are in Minnesota too. I'm considering these for my garage, but wondering if you have any concerns about expansion or contraction due to our various seasons. My garage faces south, so it gets quite a bit of sun in the summer.
Hey Pete! We have a Porsches & Pancakes Drive tomorrow morning if you fancy coming along! We have a group of about 15 cars starting in Apple Valley and ending in Wayzata.
Ps. No worries with the flooring. In my last garage they got very warm in direct sunlight. I left maybe a quarter inch along the sides just in case.
@@AutoAmateurThanks for the invite. Sounds fun, but I had a previous engagement this morning.
4 years later, have you had any issues with stagnate water and odor issues as a result?
4 years later it looks great!! Color still looks vivid and all the tiles are super hard wearing.
You have had the floor down for a while now, is it holding up well for you? Are there any problems with buckling due to turning your wheels while at a stand still? ( I worry about this with my wife) also I see that the tiles you are putting down are bigger than the 12" x 12" that I have been looking at with RaceDeck. Is that how they are shipped? I'm fixing to pull the trigger on the free flow alloy and the diamond alloy for my garage 760 sqft for a total of about 800 tiles I just want to make sure I'm well informed and getting the best system for me. Total of about 2600.00 after talking to RaceDeck on the phone a couple of times.
By the way your floor looks great and good job, thanks for the video.
Hey! Yes, the floor has been down for a few months now and it’s performing really well. It has survived both ends of the heat spectrum, from -30 degrees to over +100, three cars coming and going and two young boys running all over it. 😆 So far, no issues at all. It looks just as good as the first day it was installed!
My tiles are the Free Flow XL. They’re the same as the Free Flow, they’re just shipped connected in 4s. It’s a lot easier and faster to put them down.
I had the question about turning car steering wheel on the flooring. I am about to scrape up Armstrong vinyl commercial tile VCT because of so much buckling peeling damage from steering tires. Do these move or shift???
Hi, how big is your garage? (DxW)
It’s approximately 800 sq. ft., 32 ft by 25 ft, roughly. It’s not quiet a rectangle because it has a deeper side over where my cabinets are.
@@AutoAmateur yeah, I already started to build one 25x26 ft and it seems kinda’ small..and I was afraid that I made a mistake, but seems that this is more of a standard 2 car garage...so, I think I’ll be good with the dimensions.
Swisstrax is the way to go
I’ve installed both and I think they’re basically just as good as one another.
if you couldn’t follow simple instructions about how to lay them out.. maybe you shoulda paid someone.. rich boy
I just did my garage with RaceDeck about two weeks ago and I can't believe how awesome it looks. Thanks for the inspiration.
That’s great Pete!! Congratulations! 🎉
