My dad use to have an AX 10 years ago and I had fond memories so brought myself one in 2020 as a first car. It's been so reliable and I will keep it forever. Eats up miles likes it's nothing and is so much fun to drive
A friend of mine had an AX-GT which I borrowed for a day, it was fun down country lanes, the handling was awesome. Build quality makes it feel like being in a biscuit tin and it feels a bit scary flying down a motorway in it but that's part of it's charm. They are lovely little cars.
I remember the launch of the AX in 1987, I think it's aged very well, still a cute looking car. When I was looking for my first car, I test drove a special edition called a spree, I remember the spree because it came in some really fantastic colours especially a metallic purple, my favourite colour. The one I test drove was a 1 litre engine in turquoise 5 door with a 4 speed gearbox. Because it was such a light car, it still has a bit of pep about it and not having power steering didn't make a difference because it was so light. These were so economical as well especially with the 1.5 diesel. The one I would like is the 1.4 GTI
My father need a day-to-day car to go to work (he worked in construction so he need a cheap efficient car). My uncle owns a auto shop and found a Citroen ax 1.4 diesel from 1993 the thing was, didn't have an engine. They salvage a saxo engine and used it in the AX. It's been running ever since. Couple years later we move to another country and my father's intention was to sell the car (I was 15 at the time) but I convinced them not to do it, I always dreamed of driving that car. For the next couple of years, every time I went back to my home town for the summer I would sit in that car with my friend and just thought what would be like to drive. This year I finally got my driving license and went on a 2 week vacation to my home town. For the first time I finally drove it and it felt amazing. It doesn't have assisted steering (idk the proper way to say that xD) but it doesn't matter at all. I just did more of 1000KM (620 miles) in under 2 weeks. It's an amazing first car and because I have a sentimental connection😅 to it, makes it even more special. Thanks for the review and thanks for everyone that time to read my little text . Appreciate it a lot
I perspnally have a 1.1 (originally) white (originally) AX i do love it so much. I cant wait to get it on the road with the new 1.6 after its purple respray. Had it 5 years and for 3 it was standard. I live these cars so much
Ahh nice! I locve seeing this little baguette knocking about on the island. Stands so bloody tall it's actually great, it used to have a center exit. 👌
I liked the AXGT when I was younger. I only found out recently that there was an AXGTI as I’ve seen it in a brochure. Don’t think I’ve ever seen the GTI one in real life. Must be very rare.
I had a Mk I AX - they were a lot tinnier than the Mk II shown here and had almost no sound deadening. It ended when a Merc 190 T-boned the car on the driver's door at low speed - and it was pretty disappointing how little resistance the AX put up. This was the last generation of small cars built without any thought of side impacts - had the bloke gone a bit faster, I'd be toast. So especially for a first car for an inexperienced driver, I'd spend a few quid more and get s Saxo or Peugeot 106 instead. Life's just too short to be dead.
I hit a deer at 60 mph in my AX. Luckily it went over the roof and only dented the bonnet and smashed the headlight. Pulled the bonnet semi straight and the wing popped back into shape and back on the road again
I love these little cars! My dad had a white one when I was younger, was an absolute beast of a car!..ran on fresh air and was happy to cruise at 90mph on the way back from many road trips on the motorway😅 don’t get me wrong it was screaming it’s tits off🤦🏻♂️..but never missed a beat was solid…until some tit in an old smiley transit wrote it off on a mini roundabout🙄, your knees and face where the crumple zone unfortunately but yeah many fond memories in an AX, brilliant vid jamie brought back some memories😊
Madness to think 90 in little old cars was like holding on for dear life feeling like you were doing 150 and engines ready to put pistons through the bonnet. Most small average cars can now do it in 3rd before having 3 more gears to go. I remember the Kadett Mk1 1.3 SR I had as a first car at 17. At top speed of around 100 ish ( the needle used to wobble) bit’s would fall off the dash and steering wheel would be shaking like it was having a seizure. The only safely features it had was a seatbelt and prayer.
I would never drive this on public roads with the size of cars and dipshits on the road nowadays, as track car definitely give it a go. I never knew 3 stud axles existed!
I'm 35 and had one of these at 17 with a motorworld 30 quid back box on it was loud as fuck 😄. Good on fuel and took loads of abuse bought it for 200 quid. Same colour as this was cool lol
@@BlackLines most bike accidents happen because of other drivers, you can be on guard as you can possibly be and it’s still far more dangerous than this car

I'm 20, got a AX 1.4 hillclimb car. Love these cars.

I’ve got one in White and absolutely love it. 1.1i - very light car and it moves along nicely and yes superb comfortable seats. Love it.
Went to my first rave in a white Ax gt a memory I will always look back and remember when I see a Ax
I have a Gti, which is being rebuilt and brought to the UK.
This is my old ax. I'll take credit for it looking amazing 👏

Mate of mines had one with a vts engine in it used to beat my ep3 when it was n/a rapid little thing
proud owner of 2 AX ... 1.0L TEN & 1.5D (T just a interior pack not turbo) ... put half a million km in both already
My first car was a silver AX. Least sophisticated car I ever owned. I still miss her.
Also, the Saxo did replace the AX.
Nice Classic car just not sure about the hight needs to sit lower
The AX GT was a nippy motor back in the day

One of the most underrated hot hatches made.
I had a 92 106 xr. It was just brilliant. Just a different shell. That 1.1 engine is a little peach!
My first car is a bone stock citroen ax 1.0 3dr. Love it so much, alot of character and excited to turn it into a rally car.

I had AX, great car!
Wicked little cars! Had a 1.1 trs as my second car back in the day. Good times!

One of my pals had a ax gti that had a 1.4 engine in it
One of my mates had one years ago it wasn't a bad car but after a drive shaft broke crossing a busy road he got rid.
Not seen a cherry bomb for a very long time - so 1990's 💥
Remember driving an ex's one body roll in every corner but wouldn't kick the tail out no matter what stupid speed or angle i threw it in at!😁

How many times can you say in my opinion
How is mate on £3080 a year on insurance. Mine is costing me £950

My 1st car was a an AX . Still haven't passed my test at 33 lol 🙃 😅
Those wheels look great, but they j don’t suit an ax
Love these motors
I used to absolutely hate these when I was a kid. Looking at it now though, it’s kind of cool in a crap way. Like king of the shit box
Death trap, I wouldn't let my kid drive one of these nowadays.
They aren’t that bad, way better than a bike
@@Deanxm1well that's your opinion, I'll have mine. At least on a bike you don't get a false sense of security so you're on your guard.

Don't forget the AX was launched in 1986 in Europe and 1987 in Britain, all small cars from that time were death traps
the better version was the 1.0 TEN version ... 4gears ... up to 100mph in 3rd gear with the right driver ... clocked by GPS
Yea when you and I were 16 😂
You crash at 30mph in this and you've got a 70% chance of death 😄 what a stupid car to try convince a young driver to buy.
As a track car yes, as a daily driver he’ll no 💀
Was @owenyates90 before this, think he should get majority of the credit tbh, recent owner only stuck a couple stickers on it 😂😂😂😂😂
