Oof I see this budget triggered a lot of you and a lot of opinions. 😂 As I mentioned in the video, I know it’s bad. We defffff weren’t expecting the mold stuff to happen. Most budgeting channels would 1) lie to you and not tell you what truly happened or 2) make you feel badly for spending a cent over budget. I am nether of those because I’m not a budgeting channel. I am just a normal girl sharing her budget that her family tries to loosely stick to. I share the honest to goodness truth about what’s happening in my life. I appreciate that most of these comments are coming from a kind place and not judgement (I think.) ❤
Definitely no judgement on my part. However, I often notice the anxiety in your voice and/or body language when you talk about money. I truly wish nothing but the best for you and your family. Sorry about the unsolicited advice.
Okay girl this budget is wild! I have to be honest your budgeted amount of groceries for the month is above average and you went over it. Plus going over in dining out. I’m surprised with how much effort you put into your budget on paper but it seems like you don’t make any real time adjustments to account for spending in areas. Like oh we went way over on groceries, won’t go to Sephora this month or something like that. As always thanks for sharing, seems like you’re doing so much work to budget but not putting into real time action. Looking forward to the moving vlogs and the new space, hope it all goes well!
I hear ya, haha! This month was definitely crazy and I wasn’t expecting to go over so much. Our groceries will always be higher than “normal” because we buy specialty stuff, organic, grass fed, etc. so I’m not really worried about that being different than other people. But the eating out - for surrrre was not necessary. And Sephora was unfortunately “necessary” in the sense that I ran out of my makeup. I mean, I could’ve went makeup-less for the month but 🤷🏼♀️ I didn’t 😂
I don't think I've ever seen a budget recap where you actually followed the budget, it's more like tracking your spending than actually budgeting. I often have the same problem!
Yep! It’s a loose guideline for sure. We used to be insanely strict and barely went over anything / would fight if we did, so we didn’t want to go back to that life if we didn’t have to 😂 Definitely could be a little bit closer on some categories, but we’ll never be exact!
Wow! This budget is a bit wild. I'd be interested in hearing more about your thoughts on your family's finances "big picture." You shared awhile ago that your family gave you a personal loan to pay off some debt - do you still have to pay them back? With your savings taking a hit over the next few months, what about your school debt? You've also shared your income most likely will change at the end of the year; how will that affect your ability to buy a home? It doesn't seem like you make enough real-time adjustments to your budget during the month despite all this work you put into it and it feels like you spend without thought to how much money you really have coming in. Have you worked with any financial coaches or advisors?
Yeah, I agree. It was a rough one! I'll try to answer all of your questions: - Personal loan: I've been asked not to talk about this publicly anymore so I'll be keeping that offline. :) - Our school debt isn't currently a focus - I've mentioned this in other videos! Now with our savings taking a hit, we'll also be focusing on refilling that up. We're also contemplating charging our landlord or looking into renter's insurance to see if they'll reimburse any of our moving costs since it was due to toxic mold. - We're taking a step back on purchasing a home. We don't want to purchase in Illinois (not our long-term home + taxes/home prices here are insane) so that's now more of a 5-year goal vs. a right now goal. - Our spending has been crazy - I totally agree! We'll be honing it in for sure. - We do have a financial advisor and an accountant! Hope that helps - thanks for watching!
@@JessieFritz Thank you! I understand your family's decision to not want to discuss their part of the loan/money on UA-cam. Best of luck with the move!
Even with lower cost of living, would you guys be able to survive in North Carolina without you working? You’ve mentioned that if you moved away, you wouldn’t work due to childcare costs. Also, I think that your budget is not realistic and you set yourself up for failure. I would encourage you to go back at least 6 months and get the average amount for each of your categories. Best of luck with the move!
I love your perspective, money is a tool for us, not the end goal and you used the money you saved up to allow yourself options to prioritize your health! I’m pregnant and I’ve noticed some months I just go wayy over because I’ll buy food that then sounds terrible or I’ll try to save money on groceries and stay in budget but then I’m hungry and needing to snack all the time and buying things on the go. Trying to get a reign on this for the last 3.5ish months of this pregnancy!
Pregnancy is DEFINITELY a hard hitter for budgeting 😅😅 I want to be “good” but like also… pregnant and sometimes I’m craving something and it is what it is!

Oh no! I think your comment was coming from a helpful place. I totally understand and appreciate you noticing! ♥️

Yes, I've always thought exactly this!

We’d def be able to survive and have a better overall cost of living. I’d probably have to work some, but my writing job is very flexible.

August seemed to be a crappy month for a lot of YT budgeters I watch! I know I was rolling with the punches all over the place in my YNAB budget 🫠
Really? Good to know I’m not the only one 😅😅😅
