Sorry to hear about your back, glad your grandson was there to help. You better get back in the house before your wife catches you messing around in the shop with your new shirt.
I am using a set of husky u bolts. The wife has a lot to say about the build. She picked the color of the car, the color of the interior and approved the rally wheels.
It is the pinion angle. 3 degrees down on the transmission and 3 degrees up on the rear end pinion. This angle also allows the oil to drain to the oil pan faster to be picked up by the oil pump. I know a few builders that change the angle but always keep the alignment of the drive shaft. Funny you should ask, I was checking the alignment of the yokes on both ends of the drive shaft. The drive shaft will be appox. 32 inches end to end. Then I was going under Brit to double check the alignment. I put my back out double checking things under the transmission. Placement of flexible lines, changing cross member bolts to grade 8 and the shifter cable position, but those torque converter bolts did me. I figured since I was under Brit making a list might as well install those torque converter bolts. Famous last words....! The good news is the shocks are here 4 days early and my parts were released from customs and are in transit.
That black paint resists 80 grit on a da sander, so I'm etching the surface with 40 grit and then the 80 grit removes the nasty black. Just wanting to see what is under it. I'm only using two rear shocks ran into an issue with the svo six pack under there. I will revisit that later in the build. Next up is the welding of the MG sway bar mounts to the GM axle. Installing the two rear shocks and rear axle brake lines before the gas tank gets installed. The drive shaft gets cut down and that is sitting on my work bench. The front wheels have to wait until the boss lifts the part buying freeze. LOL.! My back is far from 100% so it's going to be working in slow motion.
Dave. Are you going to get a,management system or using the factory harness, and de pining yourself?. I just got my fitech stand alone harness. This is starting to cost more than I expected
Wishing you a speedy recovery throwing a back out is definitely not fun. I’ve done this a couple times. Take it easy, brother.
Thank you

Do you have to keep the alignment of the drive shaft universal joints in the same relative position ( front and back) ?
